My current laptop, a 13.3 inch 2012 ASUS Zenbook Prime UX31A Ultrabook, is growing a bit cramped for my current workload. The biggest issue is it seems to hang when needing to resort on swap, and with 4 GB of RAM heavy build jobs or even just having too many chrome tabs open is killing it regularly. Need to hold the power button to knock it out and restart it. Also, it only has a 128 GB SSD.
I basically want the same laptop but beefier: 13.3 inches, light and thin. Given my new job, an Ubuntu compatible machine would be good. It makes some tasks easier, but could use Windows too, maybe dual boot. The form factor (13.3 inch) and ease of transportation are very important. I plan to travel a bit now that I have a 100% remote job with flexible hours (I'm single, no kids, don't own a house), and lugging around something heavy or too large would be annoying.
Specs I'm looking for: at least 16 GB of RAM, beefy SSD, good procesor. Graphics are not too important, Full HD resolution is fine since the screen should be between 13 and 14 inches. I'm willing to spend a fair amount for a good machine, aiming at 1500 to 2000 USD tops. The current machine I'm looking at is the ASUS Zenbook 3, which is the updated version of my current laptop. I was wondering if anyone has experience with other brands or models they recommend.
