I should find that article about competetive shooters using lower graphics quality because it disappeared foliage other players would otherwise hide behind...

Trading items on Steam:
- Send trade offer on computer. Message pops up that you need mobile confirmation.
- Get your phone, go to the Steam app and confirm the transaction. Apparently nothing happens. So you click the confirm button again and get a message that "there was an error confirming this transaction". This means it went through the first time.
- Nothing happens on the desktop interface either. Trade still shows as pending confirmation. Wait 10-20 seconds for it to go through.
- 1 minute later your phone pops a "you need to confirm a trade" notification. Tap on it so you can open an empty screen and feel like an idiot.

LOD. Yeah, if it switches when you're close enough to see it happen, .

Not my fault. The LODs were fine until the Engine upgrade fucked everything and I don't know how to fix it.

I never said it was.
I'm just saying, those who would blame developers need to know there are more than just the game creators at play.

Yes, but from the perspective of consumers - we mostly don't care. It no worky, it bad.
Also, when you're a big name like Ken Levine or Obsidians, I imagine you'd have some pull with Epic. I'm wrong, of course, that's not how it works, but that's not to imagine. Like, tell them - hey, your crap engine's doing it wrong, fix it or we'll... well what, we're not going to take Tim's sweet bribe money? Don't mind if we do.

Posting something from grumpy.website in this thread is kind of cheating, but this one is too good:
TLDR: Changing your custom URL on Youtube is impossible, and figuring that out is an adventure in itself

I hate websites that try to make "smart" text boxes! I try to highlight a substring so I can overwrite it, and it removes the selection on mouse-up and puts the cursor at the end. But it takes a moment to execute, so by the time this happens I've already typed a couple of characters. As a result, it takes me extra mouseclicks and keypresses to fix this and do what I want. Just give me a standard dumb textbox!

The Wordpress HTML editor doesn't have
<p>
tags on this page I'm editing, but the rendered output does. Stop it! If I wanted<p>
tags in the output, I'd put them in!

@mott555 It's been a while, but IIRC you get a
<p>
from pressing Enter and a<br>
from pressing Shift-Enter. (Or was it Ctrl-Enter? One or the other.)

Thread title could be moved up center to leave more vertical space on the page.
Sure, if it's "WTF Bites" or even something as long as "The Official Sta..." but we do have some thread titles longer than a DOS filename, so they wouldn't fit there

Are you saying that it's impossible to make thread title font smaller depending on the length (up to a certain length and down to a smallest acceptable size after which you would cut the rest of the title and add ellipsis)?
Another option would be to always show shortened title and open a popup with full title when you touch it.

Relative dates:
Just say August 2008 or whatever it was.
At least I can theoretically work out exactly when it was posted. The absolute worst is when some article will have a month and day, but no year
-
@hungrier I've seen some Tumblr blogs with no date at all on posts. Same with fellow WTF site Not Always Right. :-(

I'm doing a mixture on my app -
August 1st, 2019 (~7 months ago)

@levicki It's pretty straightforward. If it says Monday (or similar) it means the most recent Monday. Stuff older than a week doesn't do that.
-
@levicki I wanted to say that the tooltip has full date, but went to check and noticed that…
… no, it has the same text, just somewhat larger.
(taken from the web version)
-
@levicki Does it? Without looking I recalled that Monday was the 16th (then looked on the calendar to verify, because sometimes I doubt myself)

@hungrier I have more important things to remember than dates of random days in a week.
This information is stored in L1 cache as part of normal operations. For instance, today is the 20th of March, which happens to be a Friday. If you have more important things to remember than that, more power to you.
-
Honestly, the only reason I'm vaguely aware today is the 20th is that yesterday was Father's day.
That and I guess I'll starting seeing the date appear in today's logs once I take a look at them.
So I'm with @levicki on this.
-
yesterday was Father's day
On the other hand, I have no idea that this is the case.
So I guess it's just a matter of what data is priority to one's self.
-
yesterday was Father's day.
In Catholic countries of Europe, it has been celebrated on March 19 (Saint Joseph's Day) since the Middle Ages.

Which is probably for the best. No reason for you to follow Portugal's holidays. In the US father's day is the third Sunday in June, when they play the US Open golf tournament. My tradition is to watch golf and drink beer all day and then grill steaks.
So I guess it's just a matter of what data is priority to one's self.
Beer and steaks, of course, but the golf is nice, too.

@boomzilla Over here it's on Ascension Day (in 2020 that would be the 21st of May). It usually sees roving gangs of dads with handcarts full of booze roaming the countryside...
-
@Rhywden that looks like fun.
-
@boomzilla It is. At least if one of the gang stays sober enough to recognize the way back.
