:wtf: How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread)
-
This one sounds quite exciting, I doubt we'll be able to find out the exact details though...
: Recently, a member of my forums notified me when he turned on "Watching First Post", it permitted him to see all PMs.
: Fuck, I knew I shouldn't have fired the QA team

Oh.

You have an odd definition of "quite exciting".
This is the kind of bug that must never ever occur. If you manage to ship software with a bug like that, you don't deserve to be in business.
-
@asdf
On the one hand, they've been pretty consistent about stressing that the P stands for Personal, not Private.On the other hand, yeah, it's a big issue.
On the gripping hand, I'm going to default to "this is a bad report" (aka give Discourse the benefit of the doubt) here, because that's a really thin bug report, the type that we all round-file in our day jobs on a routine basis.

Actually, they got rid of the P altogether. Unless they brought it back.

Now, if you want @end being ...
it would be nice if pressing "End" when in a single post topic would take you to the bottom of that post, instead of the top of the post like "Home" does
hm, have to phrase this in terms Jeff will accept as a bug regression?
It's always done that! No way it can be a regression! shakes at
quivers in fear but it should do what the requester is asking for...
-
@izzion LOL...everyone just kind of ignored there and got with the business at hand.

: @codinghorror In our forums, only mods and admins can PM people, but in such a way that mods first have to create a topic and then turn that into a PM through the wrench on the side. It seems to be that the topic has to be created in one of any category which allows anyone with "Watching First Post" turned on to see it. I'm not exactly sure about this though.
@SidV I'm not sure.

Why would you do that?
-
@AlexMedia Because you can't turn on PMs only for admins/mods, but I bet you there's a workaround if PMs are disabled that lets topics become PMs anyway.

-
@Yamikuronue said in How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread):

Is that what we're calling it now?
-
@boomzilla <>it's not a workaround, it's a feature. This is by design. If you have an issue with it you are more than welcome to develop a plugin. Closing topic. < / >

The Discopope himself all-of-a-sudden changed his mind and now agrees with the original poster about the confusing look of polls. You know, the thread that got all of us banned by because his panties got in a twist?
Polls have now been "de-buttoned", but as Jeff thinks that using the "platform native controls" only leads to "weirdness in interpretation and style", he has decided that a flat look is best for polls.
From now on, DiscoPolls now look like this:
But... guess what doesn't work? Trying to cast your vote using nothing but a keyboard.And that's because...
Seriously? How can
<input type="radio" />
be misinterpreted by anyone?

By it being
html
notxhtml
(see red rectangle)
Therefor the correct tag would be<input type="radio">

You are aware the root element of an XHTML document is still named html, right?

@Kuro the HTML5 people allow self closing tags to be explicitly marked, and that's the HTML5 doc type.
Therefore both
<input type="radio">
and<input type="radio" />
are legal and equivalent.Filed under: Thank you for your co-operation

HTML5 parsing, also known as "fuck it, we accept anything since that's what browsers already have to do anyway".
-
@Zecc It's a way better philosophy then, "hey we'll make a new simpler language so browsers can be simpler, and then just assume 20 years of old webpages get converted to it via... unicorn magic I guess?"
When you engage your neurons for more than about 4 nanoseconds, you realize: of course the browsers are going to have to support HTML4 until the end of time, duh.
The whole XHTML thing was a moronic boondoggle.

@boomzilla said in How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread):
@pydsigner I like how @sam has jumped in to subvert Jeff by actually engaging in a reasonable conversation about how to improve polls:
YOU'RE WRONG! YOU'RE ALL WRONG! NO PAYING CUSTOMERS SAID THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH POLLS, SO THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH POLLS! AND RADIO BUTTONS AND CHECKBOXES SUCK! SHOW ME ONE SITE THAT DOES THINGS THAT WAY! YOU CAN'T, HUH? OF COURSE YOU CAN'T, FUCKER!
Here. <pics of polls using radio buttons and checkboxes>
(oh, by the way, wouldn't it be cool to make polls use radio buttons and checkboxes? Just thought about it in the shower yesterday, yeah).

That would actually be a sensible solution, and you can't have that on Discourse. MOAR FONT AWESOME!!!

Yes. They should totally be using jQuery for that.

Or maybe an app.yaml CDN which automatically discovers and corrects errors in you app.yaml?

@Lorne-Kates <> this is working as expected. I haven't heard any other complaints about onebox searching not working well. Plus, Google seems to be working just fine.

That makes me reallllly curious if there's an XSS vector in there. Since the "cooking" is where
allmost ofsome of kinda maybe most of? the sanitization takes place. And I'm 90% sure that search box displays results. it does
-
@sloosecannon Survey says..... probably?
But you'd have to find an exploit that bypasses the js parser but gets stopped by the cooked. Which... probably exists. But I'm not interested in QA'ing for these guys so... yeah.
BONUS POINTS: While researching this I found 3 other bugs.
