Because...

Wouldn't have been as funny.
But I'll add that to the list.

It was hero/villains weekend.
There were plenty of modern heroes there.
The best was a captain america costume made to look like a renaissance era outfit. But there were plenty of modern DC and Marvel

@boomzilla They're perfectly synchronized when they start running.
I've seen that happen in a bunch of video games. Whoever was designing the scene just got really lazy and played the same animation on all the characters at exactly the same time.

Playing around yieldedEconomics (also known as economics, economics, economics or socio-economics, in short economics) is a branch of economics.
with one engine, which by itself was not too surprising or funny, but when translating this back to German it became:
Die Volkswirtschaftslehre (auch Ökonomie, Volkswirtschaft, Volkswirtschaft oder Sozioökonomie, kurz Ökonomie genannt) ist ein Wirtschaftszweig.
which, despite being quite different in meaning to the original sentence, shows a surprising variety of terms given the monosyllabic English original.

Perhaps this is why they dont have as many field goals
-

They're just playing for the deep square leg comeback, wait until the bottom of the 9th and then they'll hit a hat trick.
-
@izzion It does sound a bit like mixing sports, but it's not. "Field goal" is a valid term in basketball; a basket that is not a free-throw is a field goal.
-
@hardwaregeek
Well, yes, but I figured why not throw in a cricket joke because everyone loves cricket, and then I got a little swept up in the moment and went for the gold.

The word
economics
is polysyllabic. You perhaps meant monotonic or, maybe more likely, monotonous?
-
@pjh It was quite a monogamous translation.
-
-
@pjh Maybe also monochrome...

Wife likes to watch some of those Chinese dramas before sleep.
I'm sitting there listening, and it sounds familiar. Too familiar.
Dah, na na na na. Dah, na na na nuuuh. Dah, na .. na ... na ... nuh ... nuuuuh.
Fucking hell, they ripped the bridge music from the new Star Trek movie trilogy... note for note. For a slice-of-life drama.
All of the sudden, "Engage!" takes on a whole new meaning, as a guy sits next to a girl on a monorail.

Given it mentions the word millennial, sounds more like a commune. Indeed:
this means of accommodation and lifestyle brings together families, couples or even individuals who’ve made the choice to pool their resources to create, develop and/or finance their living space together. The building is managed by its community
I envisage Jonestown all over again...

Perhaps. My son got the joke immediately, but he is in some (many) ways not typical of his generation. Also, I'm not entirely certain whether he was describing his own generation, or the people younger than himself that he knows.

I think it's more about the astronomical price of SF real estate and the necessity of entire families to have to share a domicile for cost reasons. That's a big thing around here among Central American immigrants: 2 or 3 families sharing a 3 bedroom house.
But of course they have to make it sound cooler than what it is.

There are a lot of rooms for rent in NYC. Especially people who have had their apartment long enough that they have a large 4 bedroom.

I was told by a real estate (rental) agent recently that he doesn't like renting properties in Mountain View. By city ordnance, he is not allowed to discriminate based on the number of people living in the property; if the structure will support the weight, by law he has to rent to them (assuming they meet other requirements like sufficient income to pay the rent), even if it means so many people are packed in there that they have to sleep standing up.

And the health department and fire marshal are all okay with that?
-
@anotherusername I dunno; I was just repeating what he told me (and the bit about sleeping standing up was a bit of hyperbole on my part). But my understanding was something like, say, 10 people in a 2 bedroom apartment, you have to rent it to them if they qualify, and "if the structure is rated to support the weight" is something he did actually say. But this is The Official Funny Stuff Thread™, and that wouldn't be as funny.

Understood. But still.
