How about we use the new features HTML-LS and CSS4 have to offer as soon as they're standardized and let compatibility shims do the implementation?
If you don't mind maintaining it, go ahead ;)

Doesn't the SCSS preprocessor give even more features and output CSS that works everywhere?
-
@Adynathos Sort of: the browser still has to support the CSS feature for it to work (SCSS doesn't emit JS shims).

SCSS doesn't allow you to change things after it's already compiled. All the variables are turned into constants.

Maybe propose a more neutral activity?
Well, it wasn't just that, that was just this morning's incident. Honestly couldn't care less if he went, but it was the attitude that got me.
Like, yesterday he wanted me to fix his YouTube showing spanish ads on his phone (because apparently visiting some place for a week means you're not obviously interested in speaking the common language or something). I helped him look through all his Google settings and couldn't find anything, and he just pissed right off like it was my fault for FSCKING ADVERTISEMENTS being in a different language. Kid, you don't actually pay attention to them, do ya?
His idea of a neutral activity is watching endless FNAF and Minecraft videos with his noise-cancelling headphones on...
Oh well, whatever. He blew off my apology so whatever. I'm here if he needs me.
-
@Tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:

WTF
Ads should be treated as noise that is not allowed to enter your mind.
Having them in languages that you don't understand makes this easier.
It can also turn a thoroughly mundane piece of noise into a (slightly) less mundane game of guessing "wtf are they advertising here?".Also, shouldn't he invest in some adblock?
my apology
Your patience is admirable.
-
@Adynathos said in The Official Status Thread:

It seems our DNS-based adblock doesn't work in YouTube mobile, and he's not rooted so options that work are slim, and there's no way I could convince him to go YouTube Red... :P

The porn section of youtube? :D

It is probably served from youtube's domain. You can install extensions on FireFox on Android, and open youtube there, but I suppose the performance is worse than the native program.

They started adding self serving registers in supermarkets now, but they are only for up to 10 items.
Whats up with that?
Also they have these anniying messages guiding you through the process. "please place your items in the bin", "please call the attendant"... Etc. Every one of them starts with please.
So since there are 4 self serving registers right next to each other, they are surrounded by a cacophony of "Please... Please... Please...." as people are passing through.

That, and they're for people to get through quickly where they'd otherwise use a manned express till. Having said that, some of the larger supermarkets in the UK have self-serve tills for larger shops: they have a conveyor belt like a traditional till.

Just got an email from my ISP.
Because of a CRTC ruling (the equiv of the FTC in Canada), Internet last-mile resellers like my ISP are being effected. It's a ruling that my ISP, who is very involved in regulation, fought for.
They let me know the price of my monthly package is changing.
Well, thanks a fuck lot, you shitbags. Of course you're sucking the government's cock to regulate every last penny that you can squeeze from the public. Bunch of sociopathic, money-greedy assholes. How much is my bill changing each month now?
As you know, your current package with us ... at a monthly cost of $37.99.
Starting January 2017, your package will become ... a monthly cost of $35.95.
Sure, it's only $2.04, but it's the principal of the matter-- and not to mention the economy of scale across all their customers where this will add up to mi... wait.
That's -$2.04. Negative. They just emailed me to let me know that they're lowering the price-- and helped fight for the right to do it-- and are happy for it.
...
And ISP. Altruistic. Price lower. Happy.
Ow my head.
The rest of the email is details on the ruling and a FAQ.
Ending with:
Q: Is it true that the Internet is just a series of pneumatic tubes?
A: Sort ofGo TekSavvy!
-
@Lorne-Kates
Here's hoping that Bell Canada doesn't respond to the ruling by further neglecting line maintenance and upgrades. Though I guess even @ben_lubar manages to function with 3rd world Internet, so maybe you and he could form a support group after Bell lets the lines go to shit.
