but the mod tag does imply official sanction to what you're saying
Just FYI, the "mod tag" is the exact same thing as your "Discourse touched me in a no-no place". It shows on every post or none of them, like your avatar. It's not something we can just enable. When speaking as a mod, I'll say things like "as a moderator" or "Official statement".
I kind of wish there was something different, as I'd like to display "Sockdev" or "Author", but then people might be confused when I perform jeffings since I do mod things so rarely. Maybe I'll write a PR for multiple group tags...

So I used Windows 10's "Reset This PC" feature. It worked, but all of the manufacturer bloatware came back. So, I just clean installed (which I should have done when I first got the computer, not sure why I didn't) and manually installed the necessary drivers for my system.
One thing I do love about Windows 10 is that "Reset this PC" has always worked for me. Now that you've started with a clean install, "Reset this PC" should give you a clean installation as well. It's one of the things I'm going to try to clean up this "Invalid MS-DOS function" bullshit.

Not really. You're only advocating it. @Lorne-Kates has turned the icy waste lands of Canada into a grave yard.

@FrostCat Gotta check with apartment management--I certainly hope they take that entire tree down. I've seen the branch on the right--which is close to horizontal where it passes over my car, and 4-6" thick--sway 2-3 feet or more up and down in a strong wind.

But!
I'm looking over a pull request, and people are making changes like fixing
"_Thing_Thing2_Thing3_".Contains("_" + value + "_");
tonew [] { "Thing", "Thing2", "Thing3" }.Contains(value);
(The former is a relic from people who wrote this library originally and came from our dumb proprietary language where that's the best way to find if a thing matches any of a list of things), and they're even changing strings to enums!Finally seeing some sanity!

Well since it's WebDAV you can probably Fiddler on it and see what the real error is. Clean install would only help if another machine can do the transfer without error.

So far today:

- support meeting
- phone call with a multi-million dollar customer who is bitching that final quote for a change is $1000 higher than the off-the-cuff ballpark given to them a month ago.
- now
Productive day!

It's actually pretty common. Back when I was a GM for a certain MMO, if I wanted to associate with players in anything beyond strictly moderation/answering tickets and questions, I either had to be super careful about being polite and noncommittal and not show favoritism, or switch to my old player account, because they didn't want GMs doing anything that could make them look bad.

Maybe you should offer them a $1000 discount if they agree to keep their solution on Windows 7 always and forever.

Status: editing a animated slideshow with sound over the Internet. Surprised at the responsiveness of the connection. Not surprised PowerPoint is choking on 511 slides of 8 MP pictures...
Edit: Surprisingly, this only managed to spring up to 7% average CPU usage in the Remote Desktop Gateway I was using for this purpose.
Though... How much processing does being an endpoint bridge really need? Was it the encryption? Now I'm wondering...
Status: fuck PowerPoint and its "export to video" feature. Playing said slideshow directly" (i.e. Normally) everything is perfect, no issues.
Export to video? Nope! Here, have a ton of audio glitches like rhythmic fading and loss of audio entirely for tens of seconds for no reason. Or maybe you just wanted it to be inexplicably quiet? Yeah, that's a setting specific to exports for sure!FFS all you have to do is render the damn thing off-screen and encode the frames! Is audio really that much harder to sequence?
Found the solution!
Grabbed the screen using OBS, muted any programs that could play sound (just in case) and added that as the audio source, a fscking recorded the screen like that (Because the hardware HDMI recorder was being retarded with recording audio for some reason).
I was this close to grabbing a damn VCR and recording it to tape with how ridiculous this project has been. For the "simplicity" of using PowerPoint to make the slideshow I spent over ten man-hours getting it into a usable media format that's generally playable (i.e. a DVD).
Status: I'm done. Next time someone wants a slideshow I'm not going to let the customer do anything more than give me a folder of pictures and music clips (in order) and I'M going to do the arranging and compiling.
-
Status: A good day. I found a
n unpleasantfun HTML escaping bug in a colleague's code while making the rendering of my metadata nicer, and I made good use of git's ability to have different upstreams for different branches so I can have the majority of the code for my project in github while not putting the live site configuration there and allowing (selected individuals among) my colleagues to actually see what's going on, reducing the overall bus factor. And wrote some documentation too.

: Do we have enough machines with that much RAM?
: Don't worry; we've got plenty.Nothing will run, because they're all waiting for machines with enough RAM.
Update: was right, sort of. We have lots of machines with enough memory to run the jobs (not required for compiling), and enough machines with the right configuration to compile the jobs (not required to run them). However, the intersection of those sets is miniscule, and that option was applying the minimum memory specification to compilation as well as running.

Because computers care about the visual width of the colum when processing data...
Wait, you're handling these things manually?!?! Why is this called "Automatic" then?!?!? FFS....
One issue we see is some cells that contain numbers are coming over formatted as text.
Um, yeah, that's because they're not numbers being calculated upon. They're things like Account Numbers, which frequently have zeros in front, and I bet half of a ball that you'd complain if we had it format numbers as numbers and saw the missing zeros!
