Uh, is the abbr tag borked for anyone else? W10 (not AU), Chrome 52.0.2743.116 m here.
Might be something for @Mafia-Players to keep in mind, if there's something floating around making abbr not work right.
-
-
I'm mousing over tags, and they're not showing the title effect on hover, just the "help cursor" (cursor with a help question mark). I tried to catch a snipping tool, but even with the Delay feature, it doesn't freeze with the help cursor.

@izzion Weird. Well, if you hit the Quote button, it should give you a full quote of the post, and you can read it there if your abbr isn't working and someone uses it in the game.

@Fox
Yeah, or mobile, or a variety of other workarounds. I guess I more just wanted to call it out in case other people had a similar issue and hadn't stumbled across a workaround yet.And to have at least a couple posts outside the Mafia thread today. Almost getting @Tsaukpaetra syndrome with none of my posts getting upvoted because they're all Mafia posts

It's entirely possible to replicate all the functionality I'm complaining about in the browser with some effort. Thing is, Microsoft barely tried.

There's a reason when I used to work support I'd always use "re-create" vis-Γ -vis an issue instead of "reproduce"; the latter could cause some very strange and unintentional innuendo at times.

Addendum: I hate PowerPoint so much right now. Somehow the slides all acquired an extra half-second or so magically between last save and pressing F5 to show it. This means all the carefully calculated timings are all tens of seconds off and the slideshow ended up being six minutes too long.
Well whatever, all the young women still appeared to like it, regardless of the gaps in audio.

Thanks for the unsolicited advice, but it was too little too late. I already have video editing software, the problem is that I was given a PowerPoint. As you already know (based on your advice) you know PowerPoint isn't a video format, so in order to use a video editor I need (natch) a video. Which PowerPoint conveniently tries (and fails) to provide. See the problem?
If I had the time I would have just made the video from scratch, but alas, I still have a day job and other obligations besides.
-
@Tsaukpaetra You could have PPT export the images then import them into your video software.
Also you should have given me $70.
Anyway next time just show some awareness of the problem and say something like, "of course PowerPoint did a lousy job of showing something vaguely like a video because it's not designed to do that at all and I'm using it in some weird mutant freak way." Then I wouldn't have given unsolicited advice. As-is it just sounds like you have no clue what PowerPoint is for.
Also $70.

Sorry, I should have full-quoted the last related update, but Mobile prevented me from providing context easily. I'll try harder next time. In the meantime, here's your "something like":

Edit: Surprisingly, this only managed to spring up to 7% average CPU usage in the Remote Desktop Gateway I was using for this purpose.
Though... How much processing does being an endpoint bridge really need? Was it the encryption? Now I'm wondering...
Status: fuck PowerPoint and its "export to video" feature. Playing said slideshow directly" (i.e. Normally) everything is perfect, no issues.
Export to video? Nope! Here, have a ton of audio glitches like rhythmic fading and loss of audio entirely for tens of seconds for no reason. Or maybe you just wanted it to be inexplicably quiet? Yeah, that's a setting specific to exports for sure!FFS all you have to do is render the damn thing off-screen and encode the frames! Is audio really that much harder to sequence?
Found the solution!
Grabbed the screen using OBS, muted any programs that could play sound (just in case) and added that as the audio source, a fscking recorded the screen like that (Because the hardware HDMI recorder was being retarded with recording audio for some reason).
I was this close to grabbing a damn VCR and recording it to tape with how ridiculous this project has been. For the "simplicity" of using PowerPoint to make the slideshow I spent over ten man-hours getting it into a usable media format that's generally playable (i.e. a DVD).
Status: I'm done. Next time someone wants a slideshow I'm not going to let the customer do anything more than give me a folder of pictures and music clips (in order) and I'M going to do the arranging and compiling.

A collegue has a problem with a series of emails from a major bank. The contain .XLS files and Excel claims they are corrupt. The bank has already said 'your system must have corrupted them, check your virus scanner'.
I opened one up:
<HTML><META http-equiv="content-type" content="application/vnd.ms-excel"/><HEAD><BODY><TABLE> <TR><TD align="left"><B>Title</B></TD><TD colspan="2" align="left">Details of Invoices Charged on 4th August 2016</TD></TR> <TR><TD align="left"><B>Customer</B></TD><TD colspan="2" align="left">A COMPANY LTD</TD><TD align="left"><B>Operation NΒΊ</B></TD><TD>1</TD></TR> <TR><TD></TD></TR> </TABLE> [snip...] </TABLE></BODY></HTML>
That is not an Excel document! It's an html fragment. I don't know if Excel would ever support ...that... but it certainly doesn't seem to now
Update from the bank! They have a 'resolution' for our 'configuration problem'!

For bonus, any code on cancelled features must be hidden from the sight of end-users but must not be removed, so the PM can just flip a switch in config file to get that done just in case.
We have a nice name for that: "Dead code that's not quite dead" (DCND).

I've gotten that kind of response before from vendors; I never understand it. It typically elicits a one-word e-mail reply: "No."
If I'm feeling generous, I might expand, "I can't." Whether I can or not. (And let them come up with a reason why, whether it's GPO or whether my ISSO would rightfully tell me to fuck off.)

Neat. That's a word that was not previously in my vocabulary; cheers for that.
Someone sent me a recurring meeting request and it looks like they carefully made sure to get an available room for each occurrence; too bad they didn't check my calendar, though, as it conflicts with another recurring meeting.
The meeting was also to discuss my tasks; as far as I know, I don't report to them, so I sent an inquiry up a couple levels of management to find out what the hell is going on there.
