@accalia the one that @e4tmyl33t was talking about was battery-powered. This one built in LEGO is not, or the battery pack isn't mounted on it at least.
The era that guy's lego is from, the battery box is again as large as the device.

So... single soldiers married into families for their complex houses?

Yes, time does seem to like arrows. Or at least, many things keeping track of it do...

@Zecc But can it play Crysis?
Seriously, it would be entertaining to build a simple
microprocessor out of it, like with 4-bit registers and a few bytes of RAM.And that's how you get massive redstone contraptions in Minecraft.
Including the basics of an Atari 2600 emulator (though it's not redstone, he implemented it using Command blocks...)

I can't parse that phrase in a way that means what you said.
All I can read is that there is a complex, and it houses soldiers (married and single), as well as their families.

Evil idea: make a program to automatically compile logic to Minecraft, thus making all such contraptions trivial and therefore pointless.

Bonus points if you can make it compile itself into Minecraft.

I've thought for a while that strings would make a very good mechanical computer. The idea is very simple and visual (pull on one side, other side gets pulled), yet the operation is fast (speed of sound), and the physical principles are so well studied that you could pull (hehe) the mechanisms to their limits and produce very small or powerful devices.

@RaceProUK If you got Minecraft to run efficiently in a 200 CPU cluster... then yes, you could run actual programs in there.

I could have sworn someone made an McEdit filter that does just that...

There, ambiguous'd that for you. Still no way to read it to mean what Tsaukpaetra said, though.

've thought for a while that strings would make a very good mechanical computer.
I think the main problem would be the elasticity of the strings, which could cause serious precision head-aches for even moderately complex contraptions.

What's that? You're inspecting the privates while they're in the head? Aren't there regulations against that?

@ixvedeusi So what's needed is a mechanical equivalent to a buffer, which can be positioned between these string-logic gates to absorb slack.
I don't know what it would be though.

@Zecc that video is nearing 7 years old. I have been watching his videos for many years, due to being a woodworker. I think the coolest video of his, that is applicable to these forums is this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcDshWmhF4A
Which is now approaching a decade in age.
Pretty nifty though, a computer made of wood and powered by marbles.
And this Friday he posts a video where he sets up two computers, with web cams to take video of field mice that he tricks in to a maze with a mechanical contraption he built to kill mice that make it in to his shed.
