@Tsaukpaetra Oh yeah I came here straight after reading that. Roundabout way to do things if I’ve ever seen one

RE: The Official Status Thread
We have a release today and a team member just texted me to ask “hey there is a movie coming out today can I take today off?”. He is the only devops guy we have for the day and he was the one who fixed the release for today and we had to go 6272 levels of approval. Now he wants to go for a movie! I don’t even know how to respond.

RE: The Official Status Thread
@TwelveBaud I need to transfer contacts to this sim so I can use it on an oldschool button phone.
-
RE: The Official Status Thread
In iPhone apparently there is no way to transfer all your contacts from phone to sim. Is this a fucking joke? It’s almost 2022 and we don’t have this on a phone?

RE: .net foundation brouhaha
FWIW, give Rider a try. I was super skeptical but has got little bells and whistles I didn’t even know I needed and everything feels snappy. Might be the case since I’ve never used Resharper.

RE: Out of the loop: Where did Blakey go?
There is a dailywtf discord???? How do I get on there?

RE: Out of the loop: Where did Blakey go?
I miss the Blakeyrants. The void that the blakeyrants have left is still there.

Out of the loop: Where did Blakey go?
I’ve been super out of the loop. I know Blakey went off
a long while ago but what happened afterwards where did he go? I need some closure. -
RE: .net foundation brouhaha
@dkf I worked on a Solution with about 40 projects. It was a PITA with VS. VS Code with some help from the CLI was not as good as VS but compared to the load time issues and crashes wirh VS and the weird ass flood of errors out of nowhere that go away when you stand upside down for 20 seconds that VS had, VS Code + CLI was a much faster workflow IMO. Haven’t touched VS in over a year.

RE: .net foundation brouhaha
@Carnage The best part about it is the only way you can work with it without going insane is to not be intuitive at all about anything. Just do everything ass backwards and it will probably work. It’s so confusing I’m lost for words I don’t even know how to describe it. So much arcane button clicking to do simple stuff.

RE: .net foundation brouhaha
Xcode is special cos when it breaks on you for no reason with a bizarre error there is always someone out there who’ll go “you’re doing it all wrong Xcode is fine” and make you feel like you’re too stupid!
-
RE: WTF is happening with Windows 11? And nothing else
I can’t drag thingies to the taskbar from the Desktop. Or from the Start menu. Is my Windows broken?
-
RE: .net foundation brouhaha
@hungrier Nope. I don’t understand what it is with you that you can’t read what happened after. He said it sucked less. I said I do not care about the other eco systems. He wouldn’t let it go. He wanted to make it a whole .NET vs rest of the world bullshit.
-
RE: .net foundation brouhaha
@hungrier no that’s not where the sub thread started. It started when he wanted me to show him an ecosystem better than .NET.

@Gąska Where did I say a better tool exists? Calling me out on what bullshit?
What was that part about "not using that many IDES, or do not knowing what an IDE is" supposed to mean?
How does that imply there are better tools than VS. Everything sucks equally. You just went the "this sucks in a way that I think is not as bad as how the other thing sucks" and got your panties all up in a bunch
Get fucked. I'm done explaining shit to someone like you.
-
RE: .net foundation brouhaha
@Gąska said in .net foundation brouhaha:
But .Net sucks less than any other platform I've used. And VS sucks less than any other IDE I used. Something can be objectively bad and yet still better than the competition! Imagine that!
better than any platform "I" used is not objectively better you dumbfuck. I am done with you. You're either a troll or genuinely stupid.
-
RE: .net foundation brouhaha
@Gąska Where did I say a better tool exists? Calling me out on what bullshit?
I was only complaining about .NET. Period. You came in with this retarded argument of everything else sucks and .NET sucks less therefore it is the best or something stupid like that.
And you go on to say Fuck you? Are you on your period or something?
-
RE: .net foundation brouhaha
@MrL Looks like you've gone down this rabbit hole before.

He's not stirring shit. You're the one who's going off like a complete idiot.
-
Your example is stacking boxes left and right and going "hey look that was easy" ? This is not a school project. What kind of stupid example is that? That being simple to do makes the entirety of WPF easy to use?
I'm giving up. Get the fuck out of here

-
RE: .net foundation brouhaha
JFC! Okay one last try.
Let's say I use a tool. And it sucks. It is broken. Just because there are a thousand other tools that suck harder does not suddenly make my tool a joy to use. Is that simple enough for you?
One more stupid reply and Imma go read some other thread dude. I don't have the energy for this today.

@Gąska said in .net foundation brouhaha:
And Visual Studio, with all its quirks, is still the least problematic IDEs I've ever used, and believe me, I've used many.
If you really believe that is true, then you've either not used that many IDES, or do not know what an IDE is, or do not know what "problematic" means or you're simply talking out of your ass or maybe all of the above

RE: .net foundation brouhaha
@Gąska I have no idea what's happening in the GUI / Desktop world. My most recent gig was with the .NET Ecosystem surrounding .NET Core 1.x and up for Web and Azure. Between the multiple versions of the Azure SDKs, changes between 2.x and 3.x versions of .NET Core, and weird magic behavior on how each runtime is supported on Azure, It has been nothing but pain.
@Gąska said in .net foundation brouhaha:
Name one ecosystem that all around does it better than .Net. I'll wait.
Wait all you want. I don't care about other ecosystems. This is the one I work with and it fucking sucks.

RE: .net foundation brouhaha
Anything remotely related to .NET and .NET foundation can go eat a bag of dicks.

I really don't think that people use percents for much of anything. Not in any exact sense, at least.
You've just crafted an excuse to dismiss everything I'm saying, no matter what I'm saying, on the basis that my sense is not exact enough for your tastes. No matter how many examples I'll bring up - loan interests, taxes, nutritients GDAs, polling, etc. etc. ad nauseum - you're going to dismiss each and every one as "not in exact sense", whatever it means. At this point, there's no sense talking to you on this subject anymore.

RE: The Official Status Thread
What's the general rule for starting a AMA thread around here? I'm pissed. I'm drunk. I'm sleep deprived. I will spill all the dirty secrets on fellow Indian devs right now. Fooooooooooooookin cunts them lot.
-
RE: The Official Status Thread
Shower thought: we need a thread around here about Indian software devs and the associated WTFs that is as mainstream as the official status thread. It just dawned on me today I cannot go to any one here with my problems cos most of em are your typical cargo cult programmers Indian edition. SMH. Today is a very sad day. Fucking nincompoops.
-
RE: The Official Funny Stuff Thread™
For all the folks who eat stuff with fork. What do you do when you have Indian food? Like a roti or a dosa or some kind of doughy goodness. Do you go all in with your hands?

RE: The Official Funny Stuff Thread™
@DogsB Glad AF I'm not at work. Would have never been able to explain this one.

RE: A fool and his not-really-money are soon parted
@pie_flavor I assumed it was diagnosed outside India. My bad.
-
RE: A fool and his not-really-money are soon parted
@DCoder Faking a death and getting a certificate is not that big of a deal. Pay the right people is all.
If one has health problems, why would they come to India in the first place? I simply cannot explain this one. Healthcare is a fucking joke here.
Also, a theory that offers an explanation for his death regardless of how wild it might sound in the western world, is perfectly plausible in India. I can tell you that much. Visit the Indian subreddit and read the news posted there and you'll know how bizarre things can be in India.
-
RE: A fool and his not-really-money are soon parted
@DCoder Wow.
What's the implied narrative here? He was murdered in India?

RE: The Official Status Thread
Spent about 4 hours not fixing my code. Mind you, not fixing MY code but battling with some top notch half assed products from MS / Azure. My God I was mindblown by how half assed shit was all over the fucking place. My head hurts like a bitch. Fuck Microsoft fucking cunts.
Oh also in the GitHub issues section, when the exact problem is reported multiple times, it gets different answers but they all get closed as duplicate. This is not funny anymore and those answers don't even fix the issue at hand. What the fuck?
-
RE: :baby_symbol: Parenting advice - you're gonna get hit
@Polygeekery Cute. I'd want to have little moments like these with kids of my own someday and then I remember the not so glamorous parts of Parenthood you probably wouldn't post here.
Either way cute. Shit like this I imagine might brighten up a day just like that.
