RE: Going to the Google's walled garden with Go
@Mason_Wheeler This is nothing. I’ve worked with someone who made a library that allows other IOC libraries to be plugged in on the fly. And had some fairly sophisticated features that were hard to understand and offered very little utility. This was his entire work for a year. He gives talks at big conferences now where they have a hardon for “Domain Driven Development”
It’s like one gets paid for needlessly adding complexity where none exists. Oh wait…

RE: Driving Anti-Patterns - Necro Edition
@dcon No don’t give him your money! The people who this is meant for, are the excat kind of people who won’t get it.

RE: The Cat Status Thread
I’m extremely saddened by the fact there was a cat thread for two years and I find it now.

RE: The Official Status Thread
@DogsB Why do you wait till 3 and for the latter half of the weekend? Who is stopping you from drinking on Monday and getting a happy kick start?!!!
-
RE: The Official Status Thread
@DogsB wait you drink at work and the people there haven’t caught up to it. Is that what you’re saying?

How does it work? The other birds are bigger. How are they putting themselves in danger? Or if they know the birds are bigger and they pose no danger how did they come to that conclusion? What am i missing here?

@boomzilla There is not a single scenario where rebooting a docker container does not help in some way.

RE: Help make my youtube feed better!!
@Captain That is a well rounded list! Subbed. Thank you!

I'm leaving the video here too. I'd highly recommend this movie; If you shove the cringy bollywood shit that is sprinkled throughout the movie aside, this is all about how someone who works for NASA struggles to bridge the reality of him living in the US and the dire circumstances back home in India and decides to act on it. It's called Swades which roughly translates to homeland and it has a 86 and 91 on rotten tomatoes and 8.1 on IMDB.
As far as the song is considered, you know how "Take me roads, Country home" gets you nostalgic even if you don't know where West Virginia is, yeah this is the indian version of that, more or less.

This is one of those tracks I keep coming back to after so many years. This one really speaks to me in ways I cannot articulate. It has got a super awesome melody, Rap, chorus-y stuff, a sliver of carnatic music. Melting pot of everything I love. Enjoy!
Why the fuck is the thumbnail not showing up here?

RE: The Official Status Thread
@HardwareGeek So many distributions? Might as well nuke the computer and start new.

This holds a special nostalgic place for about two generations of the country. 20/10 would recommend!

RE: Where stillwater shoves Indian music down your throat
@Zecc The composer's misplaced enthusiasm about wanting to make prog. I hope you liked the rest of it!

Where stillwater shoves Indian music down your throat
I made this thread because
-
I think Indian music has been grossly misrepresented everywhere. There is just Bollywood or Punjabi music, this abomination or when A.R.Rahman got his oscar and this exploded on the interwebs for a while. Not even the tip of iceberg.

My life became infinitely richer after I got introduced to some western bands
(Pink Floyd and Porcupine tree alone make about 70% of what I am) and I just wanna pay back the favour. -
Y'all are missing out on some seriously good shit and I'm fixing it, one song at a time.
Let's get started
HUGE DISCLAIMER : Some of these tracks are acquired taste. I'll be posting only my most frequently played spotify playlist. Only the best for y'all.

The music theory channels seem to be in the intermediate / advanced level. Are there any that are more beginner-ish?
-
RE: Help make my youtube feed better!!
@HardwareGeek Oh give me all the music theory related channels please!!!!

Help make my youtube feed better!!
My youtube feed is 20 percent good but mostly shit and the suggestions are even worse. I've made a new account. What channels have you subscribed to that are mindblowing - I'm looking for educational stuff, stuff to watch when having a meal, and documentary type channels.
Help me TDWTFers!

RE: Going to the Google's walled garden with Go
@Arantor That's messed up. Nobody bats an eye only cos it is JS. If it was Java or C# or something everyone will already be ready with their pitchforks.
-
RE: Going to the Google's walled garden with Go
@Arantor Which library is this? I wanna see the code and experience this awesomeness firsthand
-
RE: Going to the Google's walled garden with Go
@JBert They aren’t gonna be able to sell Asure subscriptions for long. It has become embarrassingly easy these days to see Azure is complete shit! Fuck it in the ass with a cactus with all serrated thorns.

RE: Going to the Google's walled garden with Go
@Bulb
FWIW, These are very well written articles. None of that shit you see on Medium. Why is the internet getting more and more full of crap these days? -
RE: Going to the Google's walled garden with Go
@Carnage They ruined it because they collectively moved on from .NET Framework to .NET Core?

MS seems hell bent on ruining the .Net flora
What's happening in the .NET world? Last I worked with it mid 2021 it was the only stack where I could go in, get stuff done, no headaches (If you don't count dealing with Azure SDKs). They fucked it up too?

RE: Going to the Google's walled garden with Go
On that note, Where is @ben_lubar? He was the resident Go advocate IIRC

golang seems to be getting more popular
Why though? Can someone ELI5 why it might be technically considered superior? I've been searching for an answer to this very question for about two years now and I've never gotten a straight answer!
-
RE: Going to the Google's walled garden with Go
@Carnage When has it ever not been hipster cum?
EDIT: I just checked - startups in the payments industry, new discount brokers, weirdass saas services, real time systems are all using Go except one place which was using Scala.
-
RE: Going to the Google's walled garden with Go
The cutting edge startups here use golang and pay like crazy. I would learn it if it means getting that job but everytime I've tried it for something even remotely non-trivial, it gave me a weird nauseous feeling.
