WHOSE FUCKIN MORONIC IDEA IT WAS TO PUT THE "Undo close tab" CONTEXT MENU ITEM...
...
...IN-BETWEEN "Close tab" and "Close (ALL) other tabs" items?SERIOUSLY?! DO YOU NEED A SENIOR UX DESIGNER? CAUSE I'VE NEVER DONE THAT JOB BEFORE AND I'M ALREADY BETTER QUALIFIED THAN WHOEVER IS DOING IT NOW!

In your opinion, does Chrome do it better? For reference, here's the tab context menu:
And here's the relevant section in the main menu:

@sh_code Hi, Blakey.

yes, because those [item-height-number-of] pixels are all I need to prevent any and all misclicks (at all times). that destroy my whole current state istead of going one step back in the current state. also, the next one, "Bookmark all" puts up a dialog box before actually doing an action, so if i misclicked, i can remedy that in the next step.
it might seem as still not the ideal version, but... it really is enough.
-
@loopback0 nah, blakey is a weird autistic nitpick asshole. i'm, just a reasonable person who's currently shitfaced drunk.
there's a difference.
-
@sh_code The lucas1 method. Gotcha.
What does it matter, we're all just boomzilla anyway.

main menu in a browser? what is that? where is that? what is it for? are there any beings in the universe that use it?
i wanna meet one! :-O
-
@sh_code In order:
- It's a thing that might be something.
- See above.
- Under the Close Window button, typically.
- Holds shit you normally don't use.
- Maybe.
-
@Tsaukpaetra seriously though, i've been using chrome for about 6 years and looking at the screenshot I was like "how the hell do I even open that thing? I don't think i've ever seen it before. is he trolling me?" XD
(and the only reason why I know it was the Chrome's one is thanks to that Update option)
-

You click it.

You're right, this isn't the General Help category. I should try harder.
-
@sh_code why do you even use context menus to (un)close a tab, man? It's your bloody fault.

I'm not quite shitfaced, but I have been drinking tonight!

Seriously... LinkedIn? FedEx tracking? Do your perversions know no bound?!

If you don't like where Undo Close Tab is, change it:

For example:

#context_closeTabsToTheEnd {-moz-box-ordinal-group: 3 !important;}
#context_closeOtherTabs {-moz-box-ordinal-group: 4 !important;}
#context_undoCloseTab {-moz-box-ordinal-group: 5 !important;Results in this:

Have you met me?

Come on, that's just child's play when compared to Chrome's choice of hotkey for switching tabs and closing all tabs.
Ctrl+Shift+Tab to switch to previous tab, and... Ctrl+Shift+Q to close all tabs. Yeah, obviously nobody's gonna misclick and lose all unsaved data.
What's even worse is that you absolutely can't modify the hotkeys because Google said so. The only workaround is to override it to make it do stuff with another addon instead. I made that hotkey combination to close all tabs to open Session Buddy.
-
@El_Heffe huh, didn't know about this, nice, thanks.
but the fact that a (more advanced user) person can change the settings doesn't excuse stupid defaults anyway, in my opinion.

In Vivaldi, with enabled single key hotkeys, previous/next tab in order is 1/2, previous/next recent is 3/4. Very convenient.

What?! Chrome is even worse than I remember. All hotkeys are configurable in Vivaldi.
I'm not shilling for Vivaldi here, I'm just amazed that people put up with Chrome.

I suppose that would be convenient for the small subset of users who actually have ½ and ¾ keys.

You're right, your original complaint is valid. But that is how Firefox has always been, right from day one. A shitty, ugly, poorly designed UI .....BUT.... relatively easy to rearrange things and make the UI better.
-
@admiral_p said in DEAR FIREFOX:

I can't speak for @sh_code, but personally, I use it because
(a) It's something I rarely do, so I can never remember what the appropriate hotkey is
(2) It isn't 1987 any more. I'm no longer running MS-DOS 3.3. I shouldn't have to remember a gazillion hotkeys -- that completely defeats the purpose of a GUI.
-
@MrL said in DEAR FIREFOX:

+ . on Windows (switch to symbol tab)
No idea when they added that picker, but it's pretty useful and an okay-ish alternative to the compose key.

Which then brings up the next question:
The U in Undo Close Tab is underlined. Isn't that supposed to mean that U is the shortcut key?
Alt U doesn't work.
Ctrl U doesn't work.
Ctrl Shift T Works!
WTF!!!!!

That's the key you need to press when operating the menu with the keyboard, but not necessarily the hotkey to activate it when the menu isn't in focus. Ideally it would be something like this, showing both:

I can't say I've ever once missed the Tab key, or, really, any of the oblong keys along the edges. You can tell them all apart rather easily by touch alone.
-
@error But what if you had a "special" keyboard layout like this?
Wouldn't it just be grand if sometimes when you wanted to hit left shift, you accidentally printed?

Never mind.

You can add a double warning (Are you really sure?), but that will only work for so long. Then you need triple warnings.
