There are enough of them that there are evening commuter buses that run from jobs in Silly Valley to (presumably) homes in SF. Why someone would choose to commute an hour each way to live in an area that's even more expensive than living close to work is incomprehensible to me.

Lime is ending operations in 12 markets where it says business was underperforming.
In the US: Atlanta, Phoenix, San Diego, San Antonio.
Atlanta - population 486,000
Phoenix - population 1.62 million
San Diego - population 1.42 million
San Antonio -population 1.49 millionThose are big cities with nice weather and a lot of people. If they can't make it there, where exactly do they think they can be successful?
The REAL problem is they're trying to run a business based on a stupid and unworkable idea.

There's no mention of them blaming ordinances or regulations. However, the article is pretty light on details and it would be no surprise if Lime was trying to blame someone else for their failure.
Some other bits of insanity/delusion:
"We’re very confident that in 2020, Lime will be the first next-generation mobility company to be profitable," Lime president Joe Kraus tells Axios.
He said that projection is based in part on improvements to Lime scooters' longevity, which in 2019 went from from six months to about 14 months.
So, their plan to be profitable depends on lying about how long their scooters last. There's no way they last 14 months without being broken/ lost / stolen.
Kraus also refuted rumors that Lime is actively raising a new round of funding despite months of ongoing rumors that the company was running out of cash and looking for a fresh infusion.
Kraus added that the company is not looking to sell but could be interested in being on the other side of the M&A table.
"We always look opportunistically in being a buyer," he said.

And with their claimed lifetime of 14 months, assuming they're only used in nice weather, Lime's scooters would last 14 years in Montreal.

I think it’s the opposite problem. The weather is nice enough that walking is viable, so there isn’t as much motivation for scooters.
Plus, Phoenix is pretty heavily sprawled AIUI, and I would expect SA is as well. Hard to use the scooter when you have to hop on the interstate to get anywhere.

You could be right, BUT, if scooters are going to be successful anywhere, nice weather is pretty much mandatory. You're less likely to see them in Seattle where it rains 437 days a year, and even less likely in Buffalo, with 10 ½ months of snow.

And before you say "not every time, only first time", please consider that there will always be someone who will start reading from the post where you did not define it and then complain even if you did so in the previous post.
Finally, why should I put in extra work to explain every acronym when you can Google it if you want to know what it means, and ask for clarification only if it is ambiguous and if I failed to provide enough context?

No it's not.
We are on an IT forum, not "Knitting for bored home-schooled housewives" forum. Majority of people who participate in discussions here should already know most IT related acronyms and be capable of looking up those they don't instead of asking to be spoon-fed.
Um. As a politeness if nothing else...
So it's impolite to not provide explanations for every acronym every time thus defeating the purpose of having acronyms in the first place, but it is not impolite to be ignorant and expect everything cut out for you by others?
to say nothing of doing it to aid communication.
And I am aiding communication by defaulting to being less verbose and only providing explanations upon request. You know, kind of like typing

Your post was doing OK until this part...
If you immediately assume laziness when somebody asks you for it then you might be responding in bad faith when actually it could be Google which is being unhelpful.
Silly example:
But then if you don't know what was meant by it you might also not know the magic context which will make Google return an appropriate result:

There is not point in acronyms unless you are providing context and all parties are included in that context. Unless you're trying to be an ass.
@levicki said in Lime scooters:

Because, presumably you don't want to be an ass about it. but, based on your behavior thus far..... that presumption would not seem to apply.

Right, that's why my suggestion includes the acting smug part.
Use the acronym if you want, but if you act smug and or angry or otherwise like an ass when someone doesn't get it..... well then you get shot.
