@kt_ Cost of the phone doesn't increase the cost of my plan. My provider doesn't know I have an iPhone as I didn't buy it from them. Also, Samsungs phones are pretty expensive too.
iPhones are more expensive.
And it does increase cost of the plan for people that buy this kind of plans. I mean, what's true in your case doesn't necessarily apply to others.
I'm just explaining @dkf's post to you.
Well, now I feel that I'm explaining the world to you.

Normal light-bulbs have their power rating and other parameters printed somewhere on them, so when you need to replace them, you know what to get. Well, not this G9-socket LED crap that burned out (literally; one of the diodes is burned) here yesterday. That has absolutely nothing on it.
-
Serious question: have you ever used an iPhone for an extended period of time? Like, not just playing with it in a store, but actually use it, day in day out?
I used an old iPod Touch (iPhone minus the actual phone) for several years. I didn't dislike it, but when I finally bought a smart phone, I bought an Android; I never seriously considered an iPhone. Mostly because price; I could buy an unlocked previous generation Andriod phone, completely free of any contract or ongoing charge (except, of course, my super-cheap, super-basic, prepaid calling plan from T-spit-Mobile) for a fraction of the cost of an iPhone. The relative ease of writing apps, running Cyanogen, etc. was a factor, too; I'll probably never do that, but it's a "nice to have" point for Android.
-
iPhones are more expensive.
you'd think that, but the only android competitors to an iphone SE that aren't $4 chinese bricks are in fact way more expensive. i paid $700 for a new sony, and it's still much larger than an SE.

I highly doubt anybody did. If it RAN to completion, it was only because nobody was at the keyboard to switch videos.

Read that Microsoft are working on improvements for Windows Update. The improvements are to prevent sleep mode for up to two hours when there's an update, as that's an issue that MS found to be happening. (Update fails when computer goes to sleep.) Maybe MS could fix WU to NOT be a broken piece of shit instead, but I guess it's more likely that Apple will release a new properly user-upgradable desktop computer than MS getting WU to actually work.
-
@atazhaia Regarding the next WU update, our administrators hope it will finally end the need for the VeraCrypt shenanigans. Of course we can't switch to BitLocker because raisins (it's too tied to domain and we don't have that for raisins).

You may want to look into your diff algorithm...

Talk about piling layers of band-aid.
Don't they have this transactional NTFS feature now? Why don't they use that?!

I really hate computers.
- Type "AMS" in my address bar.
- The link to Amazon Marketing Services shows up in the autocomplete drop-down bar thingy.
- Click the entry for Amazon Marketing Services.
- My browser sends me to the Google search results for "Amsoil."
- Repeat. Works as expected on the second try.

How about the update fails when the battery dies because your laptop is stuffed into your closed bag with no power cord when Windows decides to wake up and update at 0300. Or the update fails because you have no network access. Or both.
I'm not sure which is worse, that or interrupting your workday afternoon for an update that's failed the last 20 times Windows has tried it, and nothing has changed to make this attempt any more likely to succeed than the others.

I wasn't searching. I was clicking on an entry filled in from my browser history, and it searched something totally unrelated instead.

A group of video game preservationists wants the legal right to replicate "abandoned" servers in order to re-enable defunct online multiplayer gameplay for study.
...
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which represents many major game publishers, argues that simulating proprietary server code in this way requires copying large parts of the "expressive nature" of the games in question—server-hosted content that often was never distributed to the public.
...
This gets to the heart of the ESA's argument against an expanded DMCA exemption; namely, the industry's fear that such efforts will go beyond mere "preservation" in research institutions and expand to allow the general public to log in to these old games once again.
...
The ESA fears a new exemption for these games could lead to an "online arcade" where defunct online games could be played outside the confines of a museum.
...Consumers: Hey this game I bought from you is shutting down and I literally cannot play it anymore.
Industry: Hey there's a new game coming out, pls buy it and you'll be able to play for a few years
Consumers: We're gonna reverse engineer this shit and get it working again
Industry: no fair!

What? That's so passé.
These days it's all about re-releases that add lootboxes. Just look at mobile games - low effort gameplay with money-grabbing microtransactions. That's where the business is.

No, but my dad did for his most recent, and now broken, phone. He's going to get another Android now, because of how absolutely shit it's been.

to be fair, I think a lot of it is due to the cultural barrier. Most othed anime just doesn't translate when it's released in the west.

Mario isn't an anime.

So apparently there's a new thing called NVIDIA GeForce Experience FREESTYLE that works with Guild Wars 2.
Except it doesn't. On the 64-bit client and the deprecated 32-bit client, I get this nice little notification in the upper right that I'm not using a supported game.
Bonus: NVIDIA seems to think I have two copies of Guild Wars 2, one on my
d
drive and the other on myD
drive. And the capitalD
drive version shows the example images in the wrong order. It shows4

@rhywden Turns out both packages have the same tracking #.
Shipping industry is full of WTF's lately. If I'm not home, our UPS driver is supposed to deliver to the apartment main office and let the property manager sign. Standard practice for apartments around here. Anyway, usually he forges the property manager's signature, marks off in the system that he delivered it to the main office, and then actually puts it at my door instead. That's the dead-wrong and lazy way to do things but I never had trouble.
Until last week. I lost a Guitar Center order (fortunately not an expensive one) because UPS did this again, but instead of delivering it to my door, it went somewhere else and was never seen again. I called up Guitar Center customer service, and it looks like I'm just out of my money because UPS tracking states that it was delivered to the main office and signed for by the property manager. (Fortunately it was only about $20.)
UPS has an "investigation" open. Meanwhile, the package finally arrived today. It was left at my front door, ripped open and completely empty except for bubble wrap. Two thumbs up for UPS!
