@anonymous234 I find it helps to go into the control panel sound properties dialogue and disable every device I am not using. Then all applications can only select the devices I want them to, regardless of if they like to ignore the default. We shouldn't have to do this, of course...
Also with Skype, it may be that your default Communication device is different from your default Output device. I have no idea why Microsoft thinks we'd ever want them to be different.

In case your telephone isn't also your TV? Who knows?
-
@Tsaukpaetra I guess if you want to listen to music from your speakers while you Skype someone on your headset. But the way it's currently implemented is extremely limited.

I also discovered that there is a OneNote app in the Windows 10 store (which obviously lacks sync). Why have that if it's already built in?
That app is more intended for phones and tablets than desktops and laptops, though it works on all of them equally well. Also, I'm pretty sure it has the same auto-sync as the full-fat OneNote that's part of Office 365 (and other packages). Certainly, the version on my phone auto-syncs.
I was just brought back to this post by a like notification.
Holy shit that was a huge mistake! I meant ONEDRIVE, not OneNote. There's a OneDrive app in the Windows 10 store which lacks sync.
-
@anonymous234 Ah, that makes more sense
-
@RaceProUK
Or less sense, if you would be talking from the perspective of the app.

Here's a small -- the gym I go to has the treadmills with TV's in them. Not only is the software slower than molasses, but the TV channel listings are in a screwy order. The cause: they sorted them as strings, not numbers.

Going through warnings, found this gem from my "favorite" developer:
this.attachement = attachment;
Warning: this assignment does nothing
Hmm...the accalia there is annoying. Of course, the parameter
attachment
was spelled correctly. At least I'm feeling validated for going through this shit.

Reduced from 1078 to 277. I'm going to declare victory.

Sure, Amazon, I'll pay extra to get it more slowly.

It probably has a cutesy pronunciation too, doesn't it?
First thing I think of is 'rickety'

How can people suffer all this crap and still use Windows 10 ?
A) I use Onedrive anyway, so it doesn't show me adverts for it
I do too. And it does. But only once on all the machines I have so far... (I'm not paying for OD - just using the free version)
b) I used Windows 10 before it started
Same.

Also my Windows tablet fails to read the microphone in these hadphones, but every other computer can do it right.
Maybe that's a hardware issue? Not all jacks support microphones. (My laptops do - the one on my desktop motherboard does not.)

That Amazon fail reminds me of this Dell double fail I got once:
Choose: OPERATING SYSTEM
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit, Swedish [Included]
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit, Swedish [Add 680.00 SEK] Dell recommends
Genuine Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit, Swedish [Add 1470.00 SEK]Of course I'll follow Dell's recommendation to pay an extra €65 for the same version of Windows that's included in the base price!
Also, that nice security software selection too:
No security- and antivirus protection [Included]
No antivirus- and security protection [add 0.00 SEK]The wording makes it sound like I'm better off not getting it anyway. I prefer to have my computer protected against virus thank you very much, not protected against antivirus and security software.
-

No antivirus- and security protection [add 0.00 SEK]If you want bugs and glitches in your WTDWTF forum software, that's free, but if you want glitches and bugs, that'll cost you 0.00 SECKS

@Atazhaia But for the second option the security and antivirus protection you don't have are in Swedish.

Not all jacks support microphones.
You also might have to make sure that the microphone is switched on before plugging it in. Which sounds so dumb now I write it down…
-
-
@dcon Nope, it's a bluetooth microphone ;)
And it's a bit weirder than just not working. It records constant noise. Again, it only happens on one device:
(caution: lower the volume before playing)
-
You also might have to make sure that the microphone is switched on before plugging it in.
Making sure the receiver is turned on before putting it in is good advice in more than one situation.

You're confused. It's worth paying to not have McAfee on your computer.
-
@Benjamin-Hall I found an even better one at the same gym. Seems some of the treadmills have a different version that sorts the channels alphabetically by the abbreviated name (ignoring the number completely). Except when it doesn't--the channel "Bay News 9" was near the end of the list. :Wtf:

Ok, the flagging interface here is stupid.
Three "radio button options" (spam, offensive, other) implemented as two buttons that will immediately submit the form plus a text box (for the other) and a submit button titled "Flag" is not discoverable or useable UX.
In "completely unrelated news", my apologies to the moderation team for flagging a spam post as offensive. Although, I suppose any reasonable person would find spam as offensive, so it's not like I completely mis-flagged it?
-
@izzion I was going to submit the "flag_success" message as well but it faded before I could get a screenshot.

@loopback0 Better than each GB being 1.024 GB…
Yeah that would be really weird. That would mean each GB was 1099511627.776 bytes.
-
@Tsaukpaetra I guess if you want to listen to music from your speakers while you Skype someone on your headset. But the way it's currently implemented is extremely limited.
Yeah, I'd like that particular feature to be more useful - I make liberal use of that (due to having a headset with separate "Game" and "Chat" volume controls).
-
Ok, the flagging interface here is stupid.
If it's any consolation, the admin interface to handle flags isn't much better.
-
Speaking about flags; after creating my account I went to change my settings and upon clicking the save button I got an error message about duplicate flags or something and the changes didn't get saved. Worked the second time, though.
-
-
@Tsaukpaetra Thanks! I've been reading the articles for some years now. Also been taking looks at the forum and thought I'd actually sign up for them! Also good if I am actually going to do development of my own, which I am sure will be plenty WTF-filled. For example, I've already started on a website, written using PHP ofc! (Actually very little PHP, just using a few convenience functions.)

Yeah, I'm working on a voting system for our convention attendees.
It goes slow, because ugh...

I had to hack it so you can't delete flags because everyone who used that interface would misclick and delete flags like once a day.

I got an email from my mail order pharmacy guys telling me that they had a page to look at my prescription history. Cool! Wonder what we've been spending on drugs. Let's take a look!
They break it out by person and have a subtotal at the bottom of each one. OK, nice...so what's the total I've paid? Scroll...scroll...scroll...huh. No total. It's like they forgot to finish the page. Fuckers.
-
@Medinoc I'm not sure what 'better' means in context, but I only use junctions if an application screwed up filesystem access so badly that it somehow doesn't support symbolic links. For example, Portal 2 by Valve...

How the fuck does Amazon.com sell Nintendo eShop games.
That makes no sense.

the same way it sells steam downloads i assume.
or did you mean how did they get Nintendo to give them the download codes to sell?
-
@accalia The second one.
I assume it's one of those "let us have a share of the sales or else we will refuse to distribute your physical games" things.

or nintendo took the stick out of their ass.
i think it's that one because my local book/cd/video/videogame store has nindendo store download cards on sale behind the counter for several of the new releases including animal crossing (and i think LoZ:BotW too, but i'm not positive)

I'd go with that: after all, they put Mario on iOS, and he's also coming to Android.

@RaceProUK We'll know they've really lost it if they make a Windows Mobile game.

They also had a Humble Bundle a while back for some 3DS and WiiU games.

I don't know why I'm even surprised at this shit any more

SQL injection potential with string values obtained by a web service call, and a double database hit as a nice bonus WTF. Also two catch blocks that do nothing but rethrow (presumably put in during development to allow breakpoints), and a
