Well, it takes a lot of practice.
I ended up purchasing a few stock photographs and stitching them together. I think I came up with something I like.

that's shitty Javascript coding
I'm pretty sure that the default Google-provided script does this, so if they're dutifully following the "Copy and paste this in the website footer" instructions...

Status: Get fed up with my wifi card randomly locking up, so decided to ask Windows to update the driver (since, apparently, Windows Update doesn't offer all driver updates by default).
Lo, there was an update!
Smashed the update button and...
Apparently I joined "Office" for a while?
Also, supposedly wifi signal strength is 17 percent:
But Windows says...
WTF, Fing?

It just looks like a way to get people to upgrade but it's totally unintentional, pinky promise!

I have no idea what "iocage" is but from the name I'd guess it would restrict/sandbox an application's ways to do I/O. Which kinda fits what you're seeing.

iocage is a FreeBSD Jails controller.
However, I added a virtual network adapter (that's what the
VNET
part is), which, apparently, can't see its own network (which it determines... how?).Anyways, that was resolved, but I ended up trashing the environment anyways because I discovered Linux programs can't use FreeBSD libraries.
To be fair it was a long shot anyways, I just wanted to avoid the overhead of dedicating 8GB of RAM to a program that usually needs a few hundred but could grow for short periods of time.
Now I have 8 GB of RAM dedicated to a VM that works, I guess. RIP RAM.

Nah, they're real coders. They only dutifully copy and paste stuff from SO. Code from a major and (presumably) competent software supplier must be improved to demonstrate their own great skill.

Same difference.
Shitty Javascipt on a website is one of the definitions of shitty web design.

Is Fing an abbreviation for Fucking?

@levicki It's Disney. If course they are tapping the corpse of a long dead horse for a quick buck.

@topspin This is a new Vader comic, not a movie. Nothing to see here, move along.
The palpatine thing is from the latest movie isn't it?
-
@levicki said in WTF Bites:
@Jaloopa Yes and?
I did not watch it either and the fact that I know the plot cannot reduce my enjoyment of watching an already shitty movie.
It could delay the point at which you realize it is shitty.

shitty movie
I am still wondering, back in the day George Lucas said he has idea for the nine episodes, so when Disney took over, did they actually use the original outline or did they come up with their own crap from scratch?

They threw his ideas away.
Just imagine what could have been... three more prequel-level epic stories

If only. She has no backstory, we know nothing of her motivation and her character development makes no sense most of the time.

Nevermind.
-
@levicki That's not really a backstory as far as it fails to address where she got her engineering skills or her piloting skills or any of her other skills that she sometimes has and sometimes forgets so there can even be a story.
-
@Bulb Apparently that stuff is addressed in the books. Or something. It couldn't possibly be that they had no plan and are shit at making movies

Apparently that stuff is addressed in the books.
As far as I understand, the novelizations are written post-fact. The writers probably had enough sense to try to patch the holes in the script, though it can only be done to an extent.
It couldn't possibly be that they had no plan and are shit at making movies
I am not sure if poe or noe. As far as I can tell they totally had not plan and they totally suck at writing good story. They get the craft part mostly right—reasonable camera, nice effects, passable acting etc.—it's mainly the story that just does not make sense.

Then again, all the films have had hand-waving ever since the original...

Hand-waving isn't much of a problem as long as the characters are done well, with consistent motives and sensible progression. That worked well in the original series, had a big hole in the prequels in why Padmé fell for Anakin (for a crucial plot point it was just glossed over), but is a total mess in the sequels.
Besides, the mind trick was a fairly consistent mechanics in the originals and prequels.

So, VS Code (with only one file open) just lost the ability to save files.
Ctrl+S: I get an Error message: Running Save Participants for 'classified/file/path.h': Formatting
Try to close & save: Nope, not closingWell OK, i'll just copy the file contents and use another editor...
Oh. It also (silently!) lost the ability to copy (again).
VS Code, I am thoroughly impressed.
Fake Edit: Ok, I can save the file by clicking Cancel on the error message.

@cvi Did you consider naming that RenderInfo.Pass instead?
passInfo
is aVkRenderPassBeginInfo
(part of the Vulkan API), so I can't easily rename stuff in there.

Someone better call Lt. Ellen Ripley to nuke Star Wars franchise from orbit -- it's the only way to be sure they won't keep desecrating my childhood memories for a fistful of dollars.
They'll keep doing it as long as they can get a few dollars more.
In general, though, some remakes and sequels and spin-offs (and "prequels") are pretty decent; some aren't so great; and some just shouldn't've ever been even considered. You just need to learn to tell apart the good, the bad, and the ugly.
And then there's spoofs and parodies and knock-offs of the original that can be pretty good, too. One hopes that they don't end up with only a fistful of lead.

I've only half thought this through, but it seems the general rule is: If it's got the same name as the existing good version, it'll be crap. E.g. Total Recall (2012), Ghostbusters (2016), The Lion King (2019). Compare that with Dredd (2012), which I've heard is pretty good.
The very last scene of the latest Star Wars is actually a great metaphor for this.
Ray Palpatine, responding to "who are you?", looks directly at the camera and says "My name is Skywalker"
-
@hungrier to find the unpopular opinions thread, but I don't think Ghostbusters 2016 was that bad.

There's going to be another Ghostbusters movie this year?

Even if it isn't a total garbage train wreck, it's got big shoes to fill. I only got about 20 minutes in before turning it off and finding a better use of my time.
I might revisit it some time, because there's a Plinkett review and I'd like to at least see the movie before watching it, but so far that day hasn't come

auto multipass = pass.pass.pass; passInfo.renderPass = multipass;
Bonus points if it’s actually part of some multi-pass rendering.
(What’s that used for again? Blur, depth peeling, etc.)
-
@topspin Unfortunately, no, this is a very simple quick hack so far. But you could have a single renderpass with multiple subpasses, so I guess you could technically have a multipass pass.
-
@levicki We all did. Why'd you have to make us remember it?
