It depends on your locale/date display settings. If your date separator is

There it is. Because fitting it on to the screen is literally impossible without requiring you to scroll...

Apparently, I don't have access to the thing I just created. Because reasons.
Apparently, being signed in as the account administrator of the entire thing is not sufficient to let me in, and lo and behold, I can't add myself to the fucking permissions list.
Amazing.

This might not be a WTF, but inviting myself (the account owner) to be part of the organization (so I can add myself to the access list) failed:
Makes sense, since I SHOULDN'T EVEN NEED TO DO SOMETHING SO STUPIDLY SHITTY, but alas, I still don't have access...

I asked myself a hypothetical question: What if I someday would like to play UHD Blu-Ray Discs on my computer, what do I need? Well...
And because the intended system is a Ryzen it means that I am excluded from playing UHD Blu-Ray Discs even if I wanted to. And it also excludes Intel HEDT computers because of their lack of an Intel GPU. Nice.
So, all in all, copy protection strikes again to make it harder for normal consumers to enjoy their legally purchased products while doing fuck all to stop actual piracy. Well done.

I did, actually.
Turns out, you don't give people access to the thing using IAM (the permissions control thingy). No, you need to go to Data Access Policies under the Environmental Topology (again, why am I not there by default?) and add myself as a contributor.
Piece of shit.

while doing fuck all to stop actual piracy.
What the people who implement those super advanced systems don't get is that it only takes one person to rip the file and share it or make a crack/decoder to run. At that point it's available to anyone who can use torrent sites. So increasing the difficulty to crack a DRM system doesn't increase the protection.
If you can make it impossible for the average user to casually copy a disc for their friend, that's already 90% of the piracy you can ever hope to stop.
-
@anonymous234 The most important part of DRM should be to NOT inconvenience the legit buyers.
Like CD games that requires you to put the disc in every time just to make sure it's legit and spend most of the time verifying the disc instead of loading the next level/map.
I'm looking at you CoD

WTF of my day: So, we have this webspace. And I've been tasked with writing a small application to be placed on a subdomain of said webspace.
My solution needs some specialized tools to be installed - nothing major and easy to do but I need SSH and root for that (basically, replace Apache with Nginx because I know that reverse-proxying works for the latter and I haven't touched Apache in years).
That's not what you'd call "nothing major" in a webspace. You'd be hard pressed to come up with a more invasive change short of changing the OS.
So, what's their VirtualRootserver offers?
None? What the?
Okay, then, for shits'n'giggles, let's look at their full-blown server solutions. 99€ per month for the smallest one.
"Without root". What in the everburning hells?
It's called "managed server" and yes, there are people who like to pay extra for not having to worry about security updates. It's a little more configurable than shared hosting, you are guaranteed to have the box to yourself if you need the power, and you don't have to pay for an admin if you're not comfortable with hash signs in your shell. Some companies just don't offer virtual servers. Specialization

@Tsaukpaetra said in WTF Bites:

It's called "adaptive layout". No matter how big your screen is, it adapts to be always a tad bigger.

And that isn't even illegal in some parts of the world, so there is also that.
-
@Jaloopa The comment about HEDT was more of an aside, as I find it fun the more advanced CPUs cannot play the discs legally due to a lack of Intel GPU even if they got Intel SGX. :P
But yeah, for the normal consumer the situation is ridiculous with all the requirements to enable the ability in the first place. The product page for the (only legal?) solution to play UHD BD discs on a PC likes to tout this fact as a major reason to buy the super deluxe ultra premium edition. But you have to go into the tech specs section to find out what the actual hardware requirements are. And they are both very limiting in hardware and with all the extra hurdles to even enable the ability in the first place that it gets kinda ridiculous for zero benefit to the consumer.

I think the people who implement the protection are actually fully aware this is a waste of time. The people who mandate them to do it, on the other hand...
-
@Zerosquare The mandaters are the people we're talking about. The actual implementing developers are just keeping their heads down because the job pays well.

At this point I wonder if it's not a plot to kill physical media (or rather, hasten its natural death) to promote legal streaming instead. A business model where customers rent the products instead of buying them is a dream-come-true for those MPAA sharks.
I know, I know, that would require them to have a bit of intelligence, and there's plenty of counterexamples of that claim. But...

@pie_flavor Information density is pretty shit too. Why all the boxes? Too worried about the Twitter-generation's attention span?
Also, what's up with the random font sizes?
Bleh. Give me a real text book over that crap any day.

And the CSS has taken a lunch break.

We're sorting the boxes, they're drag-and-drop.

They're images.
Bleh. Give me a real text book over that crap any day.

At least it's pretty usable even without the CSS. Most modern websites degenerate into a complete mess if the CSS fails to load.
-
@Zerosquare It didn't fail to load. They just didn't style the elements such that it'd be applied.
