oh you've got to play this badge game:
After your first post, you get a First Post badge. if that post gets deleted (ie because you're doing it wrong), the badge doesn't go away, and if you post again, you get the first post badge again. Same with first reply, first like, etc.
The game to see how many first post badges you can get before being banned.

Angular 2 had no update path from Angular 1, you had to rewrite the entire application. Kind of like python 2 -> 3 transition.

@Lorne-Kates had posted one of his most epic rants slightly less than a year before that, so Sam should have known about resentment by then.

Not necessarily. Could also be deleted posts. Post numbers don't fill in when posts go away. There was a lot of drama in /t/1000 over this due to races to get "special" post numbers.

I saw it as a joke (as in, he knew that he was doing the opposite of the saying) that actually made sense in this case (spreading resources across multiple platforms would probably reduce the amount of overall progress they could make by focusing on a single(ish) target).

What do you mean by āclear need for discussionsā?
Discourse is, first and foremost, a tool to host discussion at scale.
Like, model airplane scale, not real world scale though, in case you were wondering.

A) how come I can't see these threads on the main forum page.
B) when did they reinvent scrolling? It's utterly retarded. It appears to work completely independently
of the mouse wheel and scrollbar on the window. I know I joke about drinking led based paint frequently but I don't think I've actually seen anyone where I thought. Yep that person is.

I hope it's a joke. Electroluminescent paint is way too expensive and way too cool to drink.

Do you have the Bugs category ignored or something? What is the main forum page for you (it's customizable)?

2to3
? Putting some parantheses around print statements??Some parts of the transition were a lot more painful. The really awkward bits were the changes to the semantics of
/
, the rearranging of what exceptions were thrown by sockets, and the alterations to how iteration was done; all three were awkward because they were tricky to audit for and tended to result in code blowing up far from where the problem was.My lesson? If you must change things, at least make it obvious and easy for people to find where things are broken.

No one hates software developers more than software developers who have to use the first software developer's software.

Oh noes, he's attacking His High Holiness's choice of copy. Hope he survives it...
-
@izzion Oh dear god, in that topic (reply post whatever he calls it) alone, you have:
- Doing it wrong
- You're confused about this!
- the wording on mobile (that's different) literally being different for the exact same thing
- The world's most confusing "example" that does not clear anything up
- Someone submitting an actual PR that gets ignored
- Jeff insulting a (paying?) user
- Hissy fit then CLOSED!
Good to know that by late 2017, literally nothing has changed with that asshole.
edit I missed one!
Note: the copy on mobile is now more consistent with the rest of the app and reads:
Not consistent. Just more consistent. Meaning the wording between mobile & desktop was different, and they went through the effort of changing the wording-- but rather than just making them the same (which would have been the same amount of work effort), they instead sat down and thought up of a brand new "different wording". omg.
-
@Lorne-Kates Who the fuck thinks that the first post in a topic is the first reply to the first post?
Also, how do you know he's paying?
-
@pie_flavor someone who's noticed and internalised that discourse lists the number of replies rather than the number of posts?

@pie_flavor said in How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread):

This dude.
Correct me if Iām wrong, but what Iām concluding now is that āTopicā is synonymous with āPostā and that āReplyā is distinct in that it comes under a topic/post. If thatās correct, then why would you ever need to refer to a āfirstā post? Posts are always first.

Hard-coding positions into your themeable application: not even once!
-
For the lore: a subpixel difference was making the body of category-chooser swinging from top to bottom positioning indefinitely. This was only possible with your css modification making the composer height different. I also took the opportunity to apply some debouncing on the computation of the position.
Gibberish.
-
@loopback0
Well, I mean, it sounds more impressive to lusers than "I dun fukt up and made a component not-properly-themeable, so it got blasted when you themed things"
-
@loopback0 Gibberish shifted by three pixels.
-
@loopback0 I think I sort of understand that :/ I'd need a bit more context, but still.
