Wow. That... Well, I can't see how doing this differently than the system's own implementation of string reading will possibly go wrong...

“I wanted the levels to feel like they belong to the original game as if they were a true fifth episode,” Romero told himself.
Was that in a motivational-speech-in-front-of-mirror kind of situation?
-
@Zecc The article said Romero's post was an interview of himself...or something...
-
Hmm, so it is.
I was going to say it looked like just a plain FAQ, but the word tone does make it sound more like an interview.
Plus, there's the word "interview" right there.

Well I already told you mine was off by one. In theory, with the knowledge that only a single digit is wrong (and by one), you should be able to reconstruct it, right?
-
@Tsaukpaetra Surely there'd be 8 or so contenders for "wrong digit"?
-
@kazitor said in In other news today...:
@Tsaukpaetra Surely there'd be 8 or so contenders for "wrong digit"?
Well the first four are guaranteed correct (they basically mean "this is a Visa"), last digit is check, the check algorithm uses a particular pattern, so three, maybe four, possible contenders.
If anyone guesses which one I'll even give the CVC code code!

But will it also be the fastest diminishing job? One can dream...
-
@TimeBandit
The primary reason there are lots of new job openings is that every time companies hire a new developer, he promptly gets stuck waiting for his test cases to confirm

The latest in medical research:
-
TL; DR:
Results Parachute use did not significantly reduce death or major injury (0% for parachute v 0% for control; P>0.9). This finding was consistent across multiple subgroups. Compared with individuals screened but not enrolled, participants included in the study were on aircraft at significantly lower altitude (mean of 0.6 m for participants v mean of 9146 m for non-participants; P<0.001) and lower velocity (mean of 0 km/h v mean of 800 km/h; P<0.001).
Conclusions Parachute use did not reduce death or major traumatic injury when jumping from aircraft in the first randomized evaluation of this intervention. However, the trial was only able to enroll participants on small stationary aircraft on the ground, suggesting cautious extrapolation to high altitude jumps. When beliefs regarding the effectiveness of an intervention exist in the community, randomized trials might selectively enroll individuals with a lower perceived likelihood of benefit, thus diminishing the applicability of the results to clinical practice.

@kazitor yeah, this bit cinched it for me:

So I read that as making a point about garbage studies out there that make unwarranted conclusions. Which is to say, they think that:

Two types of "ghosting" are mentioned. One is where the employee has not yet been hired. This seems like simple bad manners, like when an employer doesn't tell the candidate that they're no longer under consideration. The other type seems to go beyond bad manners. An employee simply stops going to work without telling their employer because they've accepted another job.
