@tsaukpaetra For the last one, it would have been much more worrying if it had been “Dumpster Diving” or “Celine Dion”.

What's it called if she actually is crazy and paranoid? (This has happened to me. I didn't find out until too late that she suffered from bipolar disorder and occasionally a massive case of schizophrenia, complete with hearing voices and imaginary conspiracies.)

@boomzilla said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:
@topspin I've often thought about that sort of thing. The protagonist's knowledge in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court almost struck me as more implausible than the time travel itself.
Have you ever read the Paul Twister stories? It's trapped-in-another-world rather than time travel, but that's the same basic principle at play, and in his narration Paul actually namedrops the Connecticut Yankee. He wants to build a more modern world out of the medieval-fantasy world he's stuck in, but being from the modern day, he doesn't actually know how stuff works at a fundamental level, so he can't do that and has to figure out another way to help advance civilization.

This is what I was thinking.

@masonwheeler I actually found it more interesting when he was high off his accomplishments, and was then told by what's-her-face that he had no idea what it was like when she came.

Yeah, I was in love with someone who was Type 2 Bipolar and it ended with Police and me being nearly convinced I was the one with a problem.
She was lovely too, and looking back she did try to warn me in her own way. I just couldn't understand. Mental illness is just terrible on every level.

Yes, this forum has nearly convinced me it's probably not worth it to actively seek out a mate.

I've stopped but that's just bad luck I think, don't let other people's bad experiences stop you. Three of my friends are blissfully happy in their relationships and two even have awesome kids now. There has to be some people who keep striking out.

I couldn't even get through it.
He has not aged well.
Members of congress are not as good as people as first responders.
Why does he say this like it is some kind of revelation? Maybe JS and other members of Hollywood who think they are better than members of congress create a charity to help the first responders?
No, nothing?
Hollywood personalities are not as good people as first responders.
ETA: Also, congress chose not to spend other people's money...so even if they choose to spend it wouldn't make them good people.

No, only two of those things.

He's doing the same style of jokes with the same effectiveness that he did in 2008, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.
@karla said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:
Why does he say this like it is some kind of revelation?
Because that's Jon Stewart's schtick. He plays dumb and is frequently immediately contradicted by video clips saying exactly what he said they wouldn't say. I'm not sure what your "aged" comment above was about if you have never watched Jon Stewart before.
@karla said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:
JS and other members of Hollywood
Yeah, Hollywood, New Jersey. That place where Jon Stewart has a farm.
@karla said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:

That eight minute clip includes three minutes Jon Stewart in the capitol trying to convince congress members that they should sign a piece of paper that gives healthcare to people who they said they would give healthcare to.

It is a pretty stupid premise that members of congress are as descents as first responders.
@karla said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:

Yeah, whatever, he's pretending to be superior to those that didn't spend other people's money. Maybe he can spend some of his own.

Asking people to spend money that is not theirs is no sacrifice.
-
@karla I'm sorry, but do you want congress to spend the money they already have on helping the people they said they'd help or not?
-
@ben_lubar I'm not @Karla, but I'll respond:
Is that the best way to help? Is that within their proper responsibilities? Would that money be better spent elsewhere?
If the answers are yes, yes, and no, respectively, then that's what I want them to do.
