If the only two options are PHP and node, no-one is a winner.

Decided to finally get around to enabled backwards compat support on my Xbox360. I mean, I did buy and hack the hard drive-- umm-- 3, 4 years ago, maybe. And since I accomplished a creative thing that you should all listen to, I could do something else on my TODO list.
Of course, that's in the few minutes I have each night that isn't making dinner / getting Molly to bed / falling asleep.
I get the hard drive out of the XBox. A feat on it's own, since it's seated way down there, in a tiny slot, with bare, sharp metal all around. Pliers. Hard drive out, time's up.
Next night, get it into the multi-drive hard drive dock I have hooked up to the backup server. Find an article on how to enable backwards compat. Time's up.
Next night, read AND understand the article, download the tools I need, run them on the hard drive. Create the Partition 2, copy the backwards compat software, time's up.
Next night, take the hard drive out of the dock, and worm it back into the XBox. Turn on the box and-- oh great now the "External Storage" isn't showing up at all. Well, time's up, I'll figure that out next night.
Tonight: go through a cycle of take the HDD out, reseat it, turn Box on, no go. Read articles that boil down to "keep trying, it's finicky-- or maybe the HDD is toast". I hope not, it was JUST working before I started this. Seat, power, fail, off, remove, repeat.
What the shit is going on with this hard drive? Pull it out, take a good hard look at everything to get it seated again and-- wait a second. Why does the hard drive say "Lorne Laptop (old)"
...
Go downstairs, put this drive back in the dock, take out the ACTUAL 250GB Scorpion Blue hard drive, plug it in, and it works.
I can now play original XBox games on my 360. Specifically Halo 2. I've been wanting to play that for YEARS.
-
@Lorne-Kates That sounds like a very complicated procedure for playing Halo 2 on the 360. When I did it it went like this:
- Take Halo 2 disc and put in 360
- Play game
I dunno why you needed to do all that to enable a feature that was added to the 360 years ago.

Status: Trying to write a rotating rot13 cypher in php because raisins.
Turns out I'm not good at encryption.
Edit: For the curious, this is my function:
function rCrypt($text, $key='', $reverse = false) { static $letters = 'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ'; $key_len = strlen($key); $k = array(); // key array // fill key array with the rotation value for ($i = 0; $i < $key_len; ++$i) { $k[$i] = strpos($letters, $key{$i}) * ($reverse ? -1 : 1); } // perform encryption/decryption for ($i = 0; $i < strlen($text); ++$i) { $e = strpos($letters, $text{$i}); if ($e !== false) { //Modulo 26 will always ensure lowercase, make it 52 to be case sensitive $text{$i} = $letters[($e + 52 + $k[$i % $key_len]) % 26]; } } return $text; }
edit again for typo.

So yesterday I helped out a coworker who was having some issues with some EF stuff.
He was messing with a query that he had to mostly duplicate, that had like 5 joins and only one where at the end. Interestingly almost the exact same query was a few lines down with a different where. And it was all in fake-sql syntax. But that was just the pattern the guy was copying, so whatever, we can fix that later, it's just background info for now.
Anyway, once both almost identical queries have been turned into
List
s, they get concantenated. But he was having an issue compiling, with an error that was way too complicated to actually read. As it turns out, there was aSelect
after theWhere
that morphed all the collected records into an anonymous type, and in one of them one of the property names was different. What's interesting about that is, apparently the C# compiler can see two anonymous classes with identical properties and compile them to the same type.
And yet, I still say JUST WRITE A CLASS!

No, I'm being tricky by adjusting the rot each character according to the key! So it's not rot13, it's rotating rotate! :P

I had to write one of those (C++) when I was "decrypting" a dbase database. When you don't realize the int fields have also been rotted, "interesting" things happen when processing the data...
