Do they sound better? There are also carbon-fiber violins, and some musicians really like the sound.

@antiquarian The people making that guitar seem more interested in advertising its strength and resilience rather than its sound.

You'd be astonished how many can't.
Also, it helps candidates filter. I, for example, won't do VB.net. I won't do Node. i won't do Ruby. I won't do PHP. I won't do anything but casual amounts of browser JS.
Not because I can't. You just can't pay me enough to put up with it.
Which, incidentally, locks me RIGHT THE FUCK OUT of all the trendy, with-it, sexy places to work.
Along with all the absolute WTFiest places to work. WtfCorp might be a giant ball of suck, but at least we've got my corner of the technical house in order.

Edit: Holy shit, that's 99.1840278% reliability.

I thought C would be awesome, because nobody do boring CRUD stuff with C, right? Then I learned the hard way that most people that use C do it because they are clueless (at least here in my part of the globe).
Back on C# I had to put up with boring CRUD forms and cargo cultists that impose rules they don't understand.
I was only happy with programming when I was a kid writing x86 viruses and cracking down copy protections for fun.

I don't care who likes it or not. One of my friends needed a Windows XP machine with Word Perfect 6.0 on it for his 90 year old grandma who does not want to learn something new and had her computer crash. He offered me a bottle of Pappy VanWinkle in trade. Booze is a universal currency. If he wanted Win95 on it, I would be scouring torrent sites right now.

At least the CRUD in my world exists to serve my own processes and systems.
And before the CRUD apps existed, I gained minions that I can instruct to do the CRUD parts for me.
-
@Weng
In the beginning was the CRUD.
The @Weng saw the CRUD, and determined it needed to be good.
With his great wisdom, the @Weng summoned minions to manage the CRUD.
The minions embraced the CRUD, removing much of the WTF.
The @Weng surveyed the CRUD, and found it good.

Welp. I've done it. I've exhausted Audible's entire collection of interesting sci-fi audiobooks.
Everything that's left (and I mean EVERYTHING - I just paged through the entire category) is one or more of:
- A one-off short story (not worth the credits)
- A stupid media tie-in/expanded universe (Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, Halo, special edition rerelease of a book that got turned into a movie, etc.)
- Zombies (and I've listened to a fair few of those, cherrypicking the good ones)
- Out and out fantasy miscategorized as sci-fi.
On the last point.... SERIOUSLY. KEEP YOUR GOD DAMNED MAGIC OUT OF MY GOD DAMNED FICTIONAL SCIENCE. Especially if you out and out call it magic in-universe. Fucking authors.

What about the unreasonable ones?
What is unreasonable depends on what you're doing, of course, but some languages seem to have a history of weird technical decisions associated with them, and hence a tendency to be a headache when it comes to supporting software written in them.

After the last of the Boss's winter hires proved to be a "poor fit" and moved on:
Boss: Cartman, we wasted a lot of time and effort on the last two guys. I am glad they are gone. We need to carefully screen any new hires, to make sure they are a great fit.
A few days later:
Boss: Oh, by the way, I hired a new senior dev to head my new project, he's starting in 2 weeks. CV? Oh, dunno, I'll try to find it. I hired based on a recommendation.
Boss never learns.
