Boss finally sent me CV of one of these guys. One page Word document. No github or personal site (which is the first thing I look for). All he has is empty-ish Linkedin and Facebook.
So now I'm scrolling through this guy's Facebook feed, past images of his girlfriends and vacations, looking for some computer related stuff.Oh wow, this guy's facebook goes all the way back to 2009.
He was into some embarrassing music and politics as a teen.
In a related note, NEVER put stuff on Facebook.

I got a notification today that it's my 10th anniversary on Facebook. I've been on it since 2007.
But you won't be able to see all my shit without being my friend

I'm not sure you should be putting your defecations on Facebook in the first place.

Reading about my stools can do that to people

@bb36e you can't have everything, where would you put it ?

Can't log in to anything this morning: "The revocation status of the smart card certificate used for authentication could not be determined." So I'll just fuck off then until I'm allowed to be productive then, shall I?

Problem: A lot of candidates fail my coding interviews
Boss's solution: Hire people without coding interviewsTwo senior people coming next month.
It's gonna be "fun" seeing if they actually know something.
Is your boss my boss?
Then again, I've NEVER been allowed to do coding interviews.

@cartman82 Its interesting that those are what you first look for. I know that in my case, all my solo/whatever projects are on a private VSTS repo, and I feel no real urge to do otherwise.

Epic find:
Found it in a store just a few miles from where I live. In Europe.

STATUS
The VB6 pentium 4 scraper master is kicked off the project.
If someone here knows linux AND scraping AND laravel AND node.js AND python AND is willing to deal with soul sucking struggle against websites trying to hide user data so they can sell it, AND is willing to work for peanuts, give us a call. Better hurry up, I bet there are qualified candidates already lining up.

Status: Trying to test a service fabric service call for an object that has a 4 interface parameter constructor, where every parameter is a generic factory interface on another interface, and half the concrete implementations of those interfaces are internal sealed classes.
The tests currently there test their own mock data thoroughly, without testing any real code, except for one test that correctly tests that an exception is thrown in one situation.
I hate everything.

Status: Headway! I seem to have sorted the performance problem that caused the (first) SSIS package from hell to pitch a fit. Why that performance problem didn't really matter until we started remotely executing the package I don't know, but at least I'll also get to greatly reduce the runtime of this package by excluding 90% of the rows from the outer join and ensuring we don't re-delete deleted rows.

Status: Determined our intermittent-for-ages test is actually now always failing because one of the components exceeds its memory limit. This is not the problem I expected to run into - last I looked into it it was intermittent due to it randomly being scheduled on an extremely slow box and timing out.
-
Having a weird problem with a Web server that requires client authentication-- every once in a while, users get prompted for client authentication again and then get "Page cannot be displayed".
SSL debug log only shows that communication with the client got interrupted, which explains why this only happens in one network environment and not another. But even if the communication gets interrupted, there's no reason the whole session should break down; just renegotiate! (If the end user clears SSL state, then subsequent requests are fine.) There has to be some way to handle this better on the server side. >:(
-
@PleegWat is the extremely slow box extremely slow because it's swapping? If so, then the component using a lot of memory was probably what was making it time out on that box all along, even before the component's memory usage grew to the point where it exceeded its memory limit.
-
@anotherusername The extremely slow box is the manager occasionally assigning a crappy box. Think a configuration that normally runs on an X4, being tested on an entry-level workstation, then getting assigned to an entry-level workstation from 4 years ago.
Except the test environments are probably virtualized on X4s.
The first sign of swapping makes the manager nuke the test. I've seen that as well, on a different test. The manager code is not under control of our product org.
-
@PleegWat if it's a VM, the whole image might be swapping inside the host OS.
I'm not sure if software running inside the VM would even be able to tell that that was the reason why it was so slow.
-
@anotherusername Quite possibly. I'll spend tomorrow looking into where the memory is going.

Unless you win the jackpot, of course.

I think I've only made one post public. Of course, FB assumes the last thing is the default, so I had to later go back and fix a couple posts...

quite thje opposite really.

@Jarry said in The Official Status Thread:

BTW this Laravel part exists because the old scraper master didn't know how to make an API in python that didn't crash after a few requests.
I believe at one point the words "you should use my API responsibly" were said.
