Status: tried playing Undertale.
Here's a hint, game developers: if you want to do random battles while the player is exploring, don't make them freaking involving. It's tiresome when you have to mash A-A-A-A every five steps, but it's really tiresome if instead of mashing a button, you are forced to go through an agility-based segment.

@Maciejasjmj You can just run.

@Maciejasjmj You knew it was a JRPG going in, you can't complain about it now.

Went into a Games Workshop today in a moment of boredom. It's so expensive here, and everything's plastic!
Do they still do the little metal figures?

Oh huh. Hopefully it's possible with all the random battles and not level-based.
@blakeyrat said in The Official Status Thread:

It would be a terrible JRPG if it were. JRPGs generally have, you know, the whole "progression system" thing.
Kinda on the fence about the game so far. Not sure what the hype really is about, and JESUS CHRIST THE PUNS.
-
@Maciejasjmj said in The Official Status Thread:

It has a 50% chance of succeeding on the first turn, and every turn after that it goes up by 10%.
In hard mode, you can't run on the first turn, but you're not playing hard mode.

@ben_lubar Have you disabled your anti virus software? Because some of those don't play nice with VS installer...

Unless Windows Defender counts, I don't have any. It might be because it's installing on a magnetic drive.
Guess I have to reboot now.

Most people who parrot it have no idea how it would work, they've just been told by some evangelist that it's a reason Linux is better than Windows and have never thought about what it would mean (or aren't tech savvy enough to work it out)
Even if you were to religiously reboot after every update it would be faster than Windows because you don't have the delays for "Getting ready to apply updates." "Applying updates." "Getting Windows Ready". Ugh.

People are actually really mad about the change in materials, but they're cheaper to make that way...
Seriously, Abbadon in particular is infamous as 'that guy without arms' - not because they model isn't made with arms, but because it's nearly impossible to own one that continues to have attached arms.

Getting our win32 app running in a centennial appx was actually incredibly easy. Getting our win32 app to talk to a uwp dll to do win10 shit was pretty easy. Getting a UWP process to talk to our process has been a bit more difficult. Primarily the build env - so far the only way I've gotten it working is to do the actual dev in the fast-ring builds. And since I don't want to change my primary work machine to fast-ring - well, things are "interesting".

Status: Safely made it home from work despite the lady who insisted on driving almost completely in the blind spot a couple feet behind my tailgate while trying to speed down narrow residential roads, not using turn signals, and nearly rear-ending me twice within a minute. Then had the audacity to flip me off and honk continuously as if my driving is at fault. If my hitch was installed I'd have considered letting her hit me.
I give her an 85% chance of crashing or getting ticketed before she arrives wherever she's going.

@mott555 Just let her pass you, it's not worth the aggravation.

Also: I lucked out a long time ago. A buddy worked for Games Workshop warehouse. Employees had access to purchase figures by weight.
So I got an entire Tyranid army for under $100.

Nope, standups aren't really a thing in the hardware world. Besides, I'm not an antisocial ass; I'm trying to pay attention, but there's too much blood in my caffeine system.

Technically no. If it's on, it's on, off it's off. You get a bit of choice the period of when it's on/off, but not really.
You know that, for example, pulse width modulation is a thing, and what that implies, right?

yeah, i should be more careful than i am about that.
it's pretty hard to go from my online name to my real name without knowing me IRL, and i don't make it public my online identity IRL, but if you run across my online name and know me IRL, it's possible with a some effort to connect the dots.

I am lucky in a different way--my name is relatively uncommon but the Google search space is polluted by a couple of high-profile people, like the guy who ran for Senator.

Oh well, guess what I get to do alone this weekend? (I'm alone because the rest of the family took the trailer camping, hence the big reveal of crap when a large previously stationary object became suddenly non-stationary)Edit: sorry, apparently camera not in portrait mode.

Thanks to Google it's extremely easy to get my IRL name. Which makes it surprising my identity hasn't been hacked from all the pwnage going on.

Status: Tonight I laid down the little one and the wife laid down the 4.5 year old. Around 9:15PM she comes out of his room after he fell asleep and goes to the kitchen for a snack. I was sitting up in our bed with all of my weight centered on one corner of the bed, working on my laptop when...
thunk
...and I dropped an 1/8".
Then...
thunk thunk thunk thunk thunk thunk
...and I dropped several inches as all of the screws holding the ledger board on my half of the bed ripped loose and half a box spring and my side of the mattress fell to the floor.
I immediately heard the immortal words of AvE and thought: "It just never ends". (I think @Weng will get that, and he may be the only one)
Failure of ledger board diagnosed to be a really shitty glue joint that should have failed a decade ago when we bought the bed. On that ledger board it was less than 1/8" wide out of 3/4". Shoddy workmanship, to say the least.
So, at 9:20PM I got all my shit out, milled up a new piece of stock for the ledger board to hold up the box spring on my half of the bed, fired up the drill press and figured out the appropriate combination of countersink bit, screw length and stock width to get maximum screw holding but not poke through the show face of the bed rail.
Then I go back in the house with my shoulder plane and clean up the mating surface, glue and screw the new ledger board in to place and it should be a couple of orders of magnitude stronger than it was, and very unlikely to fail again. But, since the glue needs some time to cure I am sleeping on the couch tonight.
Seriously folks, it just never ends. Shit always breaks, and never at an opportune time.
