I wouldn't put it past some of them to choose that answer had I provided it.

The first block of questions was multiple choice and really easy. I mean, the very first question within that block was: "What's the name of science of stars?"
Wrong. The first question in the first block of questions is "Name:"
Some of them will get that wrong. My wife (also teaching high school science) had a student spell her own name (something like Tammy) with 3 "m"s. Tammmy.
There is no hope.

"What's the name of science of stars?"
Technically Astronomy comes from the Latin for (loosely translated)
culture of the stars
* where Astrology comes from the Latin (again, loosely translated) forLaw of the stars
*** Literally
star-measuring
orstar-arranging
***
** Literallystar-law
**** *****
*** This one comes directly from the greek
**** This one derives directly from Latin, only having the root in Greek for Astros (star). This is because Astronomy is much newer than astrology
***** Correction:star-teachings
so if you're a language nerd Astrology might be correct.

Status: Listening to Halloweenie Radio on Phelous.com: http://phelous.com/radio/
I always wanted to put up a Halloween radio station, ever since Neverending Wonder went off the air a few years ago. I do Phelous' website, and he was happy to donate the bandwidth. Fun times learning how the radio software actually works. I still need to add the script that mixes in radio dramas at certain times.

Wut. Astrology is very much Greek. Astron and Logos.

Still no Latin in both words. λόγος does not mean "law". In this context it's rather "the teachings [of the stars]".
νόμος is the one which can be literally translated as "law".
Thus ἄστρον νόμος is the "law of the stars" and ἄστρον λόγος is the "teachings (i.e. wisdom) of the stars". I'm not sure where you got your translations from but they're wrong.

/shrug
correction accepted. my point stands, if we're looking only at the etymology of the words Astrology is more correct than Astronomy.
-
Nope. See my edit.
-
Maybe the problem is your test is printed in some crazy Euro-speke language.
-
Maybe. I actually talked about the etymology of the words with my pupils - after all, my lessons in Ancient Greek had to be good for something (and, yes, I also have Latin under my belt).
-
Nope. See my edit.
i saw your edits, yes.
i posted after they were made.
i'll admit Google is not the most reliable source of translations.
I still argue my point holds, both through etymology as well as by analogy with psychology, geology, physiology, biology, technology, etc.
-

The correct term is "Some Sorta Shakespeare Shit"
-
Clearly you should provide it.
-
Analogies can be misleading if you take them too far. A point I also stressed. Just because it looks the same doesn't mean that it actually is the same.
-
Next time.
-
Just because it looks the same doesn't mean that it actually is the same.
so you are saying i'm trying to create one of these:
-
I still argue my point holds, both through etymology as well as by analogy with psychology, geology, physiology, biology, technology, etc.
I'm not so sure; seems about 50/50 to me.The former seems to indicate that astronomy is more accurate, as it is indeed, to quote, "a system of rules, laws, or knowledge about a body of a particular field". But then the latter indicates that astrology is more correct, based on, to quote, "A branch of learning; a study of a particular subject".
Really, the issue is astrology predates science (or at least the formalisation of), so the word was already taken when the study of the cosmos started to become more formal and rigorous, and they needed a new word to fill the gap.
-
-
But neither am I helping @Rhywden's
-
So generally not helpful then? [insert mandatory rant, some cusswords, and a derogatory permutation of your name here]
-
derogatory permutation of your name
I prefer the "rabid porcupine" one. It makes me smile.

still argue my point holds,
If he were teaching an etymology class, you would have a point. But I don't think he is, so you don't.

If you ever feel like some look into his and Lupa's blogs about that departure. It is much less "he left" and much more "CA management has gone completely insane".
...aaaand it seems I didn't miss much. Does this guy even do movies anymore?
Yes. http://phelous.com/category/phelous/and-the-movies/
There's recently been a spur of Bootleg Zones episodes. He seems to mainly be focusing on dollar-store cartoon movies. The last one was Puss `N Boots, starring William Shatner:

Where did you find
ἄστρον
? I find the formsἀστήρ
,αστέρι
, — never mind; Woodhouse does have the neuter form; I've never seen that before.ἀστήρ
is the form I'm familiar with.Edit: Somehow, trying to type Greek, that got submitted before I finished typing it.
-
-
Huh, Liddell&Scott have it, too. TIL. As I said, I only knew the
ἀστήρ
form, which is 3rd declension, ugh. I like the neuter formἄστρον
— nice, simple 2nd declension. :)

Not long...

Apparently longer than expected ... Or does the current version count?

Well, last I looked before seeing Applesauce Man's status, it did not have it. Then I saw his status and it had an ASCII dick and balls so I made the assumption that it had already happened.

No, it's best to peel them afterward. It enhances the experience so much more!

Clarification: I don't peel apples before eating.

not a living document
QFT. Still, it would take some non-zero amount of time to parse it, which reduces the overall available processing time to other processes (including this one).
