This morning, I clicked a spoilered image of a car's dashboard, and immediately was taken to the image's url.

"Lady Jellypotato" could also be a fitting title for me ...

Every freaking time I try to scroll up too fast the damned thing jellypotateoes all over the place. So I have to scroll slowly and carefully, tiptoe about until the scrollbar aaaaaalmost touches it's highest point and then wait for the batch to load before scrolling any further.
But we all know that. I just revived this because I stumbled onto the perfect GIF of what happens when you fail at doing it properly:

They've been meaning to switch to a different markdown library for about a quarter year by now.

I took the task of stress-testing the new forum very seriously. I failed to even make a dent.

Did you try using it? Using it breaks Discourse.
-
Yeah, but the color was OK, wasn't it? Didn't distract you from important stuff or anything? Or maybe it needs to fly in from the side? But only when your mouse moves over the post? Jeez, this could be made sooo much better. I get the feeling that this platform is just waiting to take off, once we get the little details like that correct.
Needed more rounded edges. Round all of the things.

Double bonus for the fact that posting that last comment broke infini-scroll... the same way it has been reported to break infini-scroll since day one that Jeff still says is no repro don't care despite everyone else being able to easily reproduce it.
-
But I thought that locking t/1k would fix everything that was broken in dischorse!
-
Wonder if that explains how I jumped from something like 2,500 notifications to nearly 5,000 despite not being active for several months. Or did dischorse send me 2,500 notifications begging me to be active again?
-
wee infiniscroll broke again when I posted. clearly one is never meant to respond to posts in a forum.
-
/t/1000 went into hiding for a while. When it came back out, you got lots of badge notifications.
-
Discussion is a to Discourse.
-
I see t/1k had to be turned off again? I didn't figure it would be able to survive - the inner workings of their forum's engine make that topic impossible to support with the features as they have them. Where some engineers might say, "hey, we need to change our logic because they're preventing things from working," discodevs have said "hey, you need to stop doing things that make our logic break."
I appreciate the now 4,957 notifications. I also refuse to open it and waste all that build up, since I don't care if I was responded to or liked or not. And this isn't my grand re-entry into the community, I just had some time to kill today and wondered how my two favorite topics were doing.... turns out one was murdered and the other exploded with a good 400 posts about how dischorse sucks, which is what led to the murder of the former.
-
you got lots of badge notifications.
Unless you didn't of course.
And this isn't my grand re-entry into the community
Aw darn! Would have drug out the "Welcome Back to " package, but it seems the cooties have grown out of the cutie stage and made it into the cultie phase, and nobody has time for that!
Filed under: Hello! How have you been. It's been a long time...

I was talking about the nebulous "you" as applied to the general forum users who participated in that topic, despite that in context it was indeed talking about one user. ;P

but it seems the cooties have grown out of the cutie stage and made it into the cultie phase, and nobody has time for that!
I couldn't figure out if it's dischorse or our unimaginably bad network at work here causing the cooties, and can't be bothered to try www.isitcootiesorisitmeordoesdischorsejustsucknomatterwhat.com to figure it out. Guessing it's not just me then.

not just me
Yes, the system is slowly dying a really interesting shade of green. Though that may be an improvement from the orange it was a month or so ago!

Sooo.... some time later and Discourse is still shit, then?
I have confidence it will remain so.
-
First, the tl;dr
Discourse! You dumpster of diuretic dingo dung!
So, I was having a PM conversation with someone, and because I was in the lab this afternoon where the network connectivity is a bit shit (25% packet drop rate?!) I replied by email instead of using the web interface. Now, email from my corporate email address has my vCard attached to it (as a reasonable way to identify myself in professional conversations) and that's not exactly an unusual thing for people to do.
Guess what Discourse did when it saw it? Fucking attached it to the PM chain.
-
that's not exactly an unusual thing for people to do.
I don't think I've ever received an email with one attached.
I get why it's annoying but I'm kinda impressed Discourse managed to actually attach it rather than just shitting itself.
-
I mean, don't label me a DiscoDefender or anything, but I think TR here is you...
I wouldn't expect any forum, toxic hellstew, Discourse, or otherwise, to be able to clip off signatures/vCards/etc reliably.
-
That is the worst type of bug, but at least it was a PM. Chances are there is enough information to identify most of us if anyone digs hard enough.

I'm definitely identifiable by just by username. Add in some of the other things I've said here, and nobody with the slightest investigative power (or Google) will have the slightest problem in working out who I am.
So I don't plan to make it any easier for anyone.
-
attached it to the PM chain.
That's actually not unreasonable to me. Were you expecting attachments to be silently dropped?
