@blakeyrat I think it's that because he owns one, the bundle is slightly more than buying the two remaining games? Pretty weak, most Steam fuckups involve a 110% discount or something
-
@blakeyrat said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:
@xaade Ok; I give up. What's the joke?
I think it's that and look damn near indistinguishable, so he's commenting on the fact that it went from $19.99 to $24.99 when in reality it went from $49.99 to $24.99.
-
@anotherusername $29.47 is the total of all three products, including the one he already owns.
-
@PleegWat Getting warmer....
$29.59 - $29.47 = $0.12
-
@xaade Yes, there's an extra $0.12 in there somewhere. Without knowing how Steam does their pricing, I'd imagine it's more likely to be a tax or fee or something than an actual WTF of not being able to add. They did add them up correctly on "Price of individual products: $29.47".
-
@anotherusername Not a tax, not a fee.
The result of reducing the price of the bundle independently of reducing the price of the individual games, and not checking to see if you made the bundle more expensive than the individual games.
Also, the original price of the bundle is $0.03 more expensive prior to any discounts, anyway.
-
@xaade Are the products actually discounted separately, or are those discounts only applicable to them if you purchase them in the bundle?
If they're discounted separately, then yeah. There's the WTF.
-
@xaade you know what makes a really good joke? One you have to explain at great length
-
@anotherusername yep
-
- They make this mistake constantly.
- It was readily visible to me. I don't understand why so many had trouble with it. Next time I'll highlight.
-
@Jaloopa well you have another variant too, like longestjokeintheworld
-
@xaade I still don't see it. There's no particular guarantee that buying products bundled together will be cheaper than buying them individually. It sounds like you have assumptions in your brain that Valve does not.
-
@blakeyrat Then... the point of the bundle is what?
-
@xaade It's to trick you into posting "jokes" on this thread that aren't funny, then you have to spend like 37 more posts explaining them. It's all a conspiracy.
-
@Jaloopa To be fair, it was pretty damn obvious from the picture.
-
@El_Heffe I don't know whether to be horny or hungry now. THIS IS SO CONFUSING!!!

I can picture things but not well, and many of my dreams don't have much of a visual component. I'm the total opposite with audio though, sometimes I wish there was a way to hook a speaker up to my brain and directly play sounds I'm thinking because imagining various voices, sounds, instruments, and tones is insanely easy for me. That would totally skip the "playing an instrument" middleman.
Brains are really weird and people can have really weird deficiencies as a result. My brain, for example, is almost completely unable to filter out one voice when there are multiple people talking. It really bothers me and makes conversations in public places incredibly awkward, because I constantly have to guess what the other person said based on the few words I actually understood and pretend that I'm understanding everything. It doesn't matter how much I concentrate, I'm completely unable to filter out the background noise, which most other people seem to have no problem with (most of the time, at least).
-
@asdf I also have a lot of trouble filtering through background noise. Don't know if it's just how my brain works, or if my minor hearing loss is at just the right frequencies for that to happen.
I really hate Chipotle-style restaurants that have the open metal ceiling on the inside. It is literally impossible for me to carry on a conversation in such an environment if there are any other parties in the building.

Because I was thinking about the expression "eating so. out". But I guess you can make similar jokes about fellatio.

Isn't that an oxymoron?

The good news is, after their health problems earlier this year, "other parties in the building" is much less likely to be a thing!

@asdf I would imagine it takes one saying,
"What, you can't tell the difference between those two colors?"
before they'll notice.
Outside of someone being observant to notice that other people CAN observe a difference and it somehow matters. Like if we were dumb enough not to use multiple cues on a notice (color, shape, position)
Kind of like people who have aphantasia and didn't realize because they thought everyone else was talking metaphorically.
I remember my meditation instructor telling me that she thinks in images. She said that some people think in paragraphs. I remember thinking, "Doesn't everyone?"

Well, my world would be a very different place if the Stage was disabled or otherwise inoperable. So many things have dependency hooks to it...
That actually worries me a bit, almost enough to see about crafting Stage-less as an emergency operation mode...
I mean, it does take a lot of resources, but allows parallelization of so many tasks so the benefits outweigh the costs, but, what would happen if it was suddenly gone? I don't currently have a fallback to that (well, at least in the same way I have a fallback for massively-reduced short-term memory condition 1 through 5)!

@mott555 said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:
I also have a lot of trouble filtering through background noise.
So you suffer the same issues as modern Speech-to-text recognition/transcription programs?
I'll admit, for example, the Three Voices experiment (apparently it's for immersive VR things, YMMV running it) was a little confusing, since it has three clear and distinct voices narrating conversation. Anticipating the conversation flow definitely helped stay focused on the desired speaker, but when I was centered inside the circle, not even that could truly stop overlap...

Depends on the mode I'm in.
When the Stage is set for standard operation, there are sections for IRL object mapping, timescale anticipation, and real-time representation of tasks and other things (for example, "that song stuck in my head" is represented by Generic Media Player (Streaming NoControl NoMeta)). There is a section allocated for arbitrary imagination, but it's not typically very large or fully featured.
When set for Programming, active code constructs abound! Those are... a little more difficult to describe. other than vague things like "objects are objects".
When set for Imaginarium, very little external input is typically represented, all objects are references to complex library item types, which are typically represented by referenced references to other library objects (it... gets complicated), but those aspects that have physically representable attributes usually appear in accordance to whatever is being visualized. Songs are fun! Stories are fun! Unfortunately, limited memory and the way objects are represented (links upon links) usually means details that aren't being paid attention to are "lost" temporarily until queried for rendering, and due to the nature of the library, this often doesn't complete in a timely manner.Hmm...

Got told a story from the early days of the company I'm working at.
We sell an ecomm solution. One of the features is the standard "Customers who bought X also bought Y" upsell on item pages. The upsells are generated once a week with a query that scrubs through the sales orders, and does some joins, and sorts by the most quantity sold.
So one of our earliest customers, a business that sells educational pamphlets, files a ticket. The upsell relation isn't working right.
Dev team looks at the code. Seems fine. Report runs, upsell items show. Toss the ticket back to the customer "more info"?
It gets escalated to head of their marketing department. "It can't be showing the right "also bought" items."
Senior dev looks at the code, upsells are generated, show up on the page just fine.
This goes back and forth until the owner of our company is on the phone with their CEO.
CEO: "It isn't right!"
Boss: "How do you know?"
CEO: "Open this product..."Sends boss a link to a product, and instantly the boss agrees. This isn't right. And sure enough there was a sorting bug that no one saw because of such a small dataset in development.
The product the CEO pointed out: "Dealing with Teen Pregnancy"
The "Customers also bought" top recommendation: "Firearm Handling"

@Lorne-Kates well, in a hillbilly town that could be correctly following the buy correlation. If the shop wante'd to wimp-on for fear of legalities that's another history...

Use a small fan, start central A/C, have close fluorescent lighting, or being w/in 30ft of a mercury vapor lamp ( the kind found in gymnasiums etc... ), be on a busy street ( w/in 30ft of... ), and I'm forced to resort to ( really deficient ) lip reading. Blame it on sleeping next to howitzers or DJing in clubs... but all I hear in those situations is "Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....".

From what I understand there was a vague sense of "it isn't recommending the right products / recommending correctly". It took a while for repro deets to come to light.
