What favorite UI element will we lose next? Everything?

Because eliminating the standalone Notifications menu and doing a complete redesign on the user menu wasn't enough!
maybe it would be nice if they made it so it takes less than 30 seconds to load my profile?
that would be nice!
And you aren't even staff. I have to wait twice as long as you do because I load twice as much information!

I thought for one second they wanted to bring back starring. Luckily my naĂŻvety was only temporary...
[image] Some initial ideas: [star] group admin / mod menu items
together (akismet, flags, site settings) [star] move to two columns
with glyphs [star] replicate complete topnav (latest, new, unread, etc)
including counts [star] move very rare, low value items like Keyboard

no, not the same

Not if you remove all of them

This confuses me:
But the OP actually thinks that Discourse is open to suggestions?!
Also:
you're [...] acknowledging the value of other's ideas
-
The guy further down...
Be aware of "bikeshedding" which is the tendency of non-experts to take up valuable time and space discussing the trivial parts of a problem ... because they don't have the expertise to solve the hard parts

I think a few of them are deluded on meta.d - this guy thinks Discourse works.

Guys, After a long wait, some plugin creation, a few patches and a SSO implementation in LUA we lauched our company internal community!
Sounds like "after bumping our heads for a while we finally made Discourse work" to me.
-
Oh heck! The fading out on mouse-leave has come back! I've tried doing a full refresh in case my CSS was out of date and it won't go away.
-
Hmm...it seems like there's actually less of that now. The post buttons and reply button don't seem to have any fade action any more. Where are you seeing that?
-
`Reply as linked Topic" has a fade
Filed Under: Only a slight one, though

Ah, hadn't noticed. I also dislike that they're making the interactive stuff blend in by not being blue. I guess it doesn't matter for colorblind people, but that doesn't mean that the rest of us should necessarily suffer.
-
Even colourblind people can benefit from good choice of colours; it's all about emphasis and contrast
-
I guess it doesn't matter for colorblind people, but that doesn't mean that the rest of us should necessarily suffer.
Wow.
Colorblind people can see colors. They just have trouble telling some combinations of colors apart. So instead of identifying stuff only with colors, you should add a texture or icon to it. Or be extremely careful in how you choose the colors you use.
(Fully 100% colorblindness, literally greyscale vision, occurs in like 1/1,000,000,000 people. It's so rare it's not worth considering.)
On a related note, man, Little Miss Sunshine was a great movie, wasn't it?
God. That was the best scene ever in cinema.
-
Or be extremely careful in how you choose the colors you use.
A good rule of thumb is to work in HSV-space, not RGB, and to make sure that the colours are substantially different on at least two of the axes. Even if dichromats can't tell the hues apart, they'll notice the different intensities.

The per-post reply button has a very faint hover effect too, IIRC (can't see on touchscreen).

But those things have their own problems with Discourse
FIled Under: This bug was once used by Sam or Jeff to tell us that our bug reports aren't important... I remember stuff like that!
-
-
worse: 'hey we fixed it for one browser. let's close the bug report topic!'

Restructuring the hamburger menu is going swell.
Do you remember that page that was added a month or two ago to allow users to compare their e-peen to everyone else on the forum? You know, the one that you get to through the Users link on the hamburger menu, the page that directly contradicts the Discogoal of avoiding gamification[1]? You don't? That's probably because it's disabled here, but it's fully functional over on meta.d. Guess what isn't getting trimmed from the Hamburger menu redesign? Did you guess the Users link? Wow, you're good!

Is "users" really so important that it should be in the top section? Do we know how often it gets used?
It is an important top level page, yes.[[2]]
[1] Yeah, I know, so do s.

Why? I'd like to see my epeen.

Did they fix whatever Discobug caused us to disable the Users page?
You mean the crippling cooties when it refreshed every hour? That'll probably come with 1.5 when they include support for 100k+ topics.

Hmm. Remember when I wanted to ensure that user's postcounts were carried over from CS? And @blakeyrat [found this gem:][1] * (NOTE: I can't highlight text and turn it into a hyperlink? WHY CAN I NOT MAKE ONE DISCOURSE POST WITHOUT FINDING A BUG?!?!??!?!)
Anyways ... found [url=http://forums.thedailywtf.com/forums/p/30922/364587.aspx#364587]this gem[/url]?there's a post from "sam" who is "co-founder" of something (Discourse? Does a forum have founders?) saying they don't have a way of setting post count
To which [url=http://forums.thedailywtf.com/forums/p/30922/364588.aspx#364588]I replied[/url]:
Who even cares about setting a post count? Isn't the correct answer import all 507 posts by this user. Their post count is now 507, because "SELECT count(1) FROM fucking_posts WHERE fucking_user='this_fucking_user';" returns 507?
Am I missing something about how forums work?
And then on Dickspore I made a post about how we should have post count by usernames, and the actual users agreed, but the forum makers made snarky comments about gamification and how it would hurt the DB and how I can't be arsed to use Disc-of-Tron's shitty, shitty search to actually find that thread and the puchline is "500"?

post count by usernames
It gets better, Lorne.
Someone here wrote a greasemonkey script that does that ... but having it running basically overwhelmed Discourse's capabilities - which meant I had to stop doing so.
-
Sorting by time modulo 24 hours is a great idea and I'm not sure why it hasn't been done yet.
-
or use an undiscoverable keyboard shortcut
I have a feeling that it's discoverable by people who don't want to log out, like the

keyboard shortcut is.

There are keyboard shortcuts?!?!
Filed under: TIL: Sometimes it's userful to mash buttons on the keyboard unexpectedly

I don't know what's more of a WTF... that the only way to restore a server-side count is to force the user to use a client-side script-- or that it's possible for a single user with a single piece of Javascript to blow up an entire server in 2015. (Or even 2014!)
lol $(".like").click();

Ever so DiscoVerable ones too. (Press ?)
Why is there no listed keyboard shortcut to close the keyboard shortcut lightbox?

Hey! Where did the notifications menu go?
-
I think your avatar stole it!
-
Wait, so the Notifications tab in the profile is gone too?
So if I click "view older notifications" in the profile menu it effectively goes to an nonexistent tab on my profile?

Quick, to the Bat DiscoBug Reporter! -Sept 10th 2015-
And we all know what happened the very next DiscoDay...

What? CNR.
Also - is the Expand button on a profile page new?
-
So just to be clear: you have a Notifications tab below (or somewhere around) Badges?
