Thunderbirds are back

But something happened to them while they were away… they got a CGI makeover.

As if the live action film wasn't bad enough.

I'm OK, I always kept my immortal soul on B:…
What about those who gave theirs to GameStation?
-
11 (at the time of counting) people still haven't heard about that?
-
if you want a piece of my sould get in line. i've had the think in hock so many times that at least 500 people are owed a part of it (last i checked Mephistopheles was fifth in line)
-
11 (at the time of counting) people still haven't heard about that?
Or had, but were reminding themselves about it anyway
-
11 (at the time of counting) people still haven't heard about that?
This is the first time my memory says the word "GameStation" has penetrated my consciousness. The story sounds kinda familiar, so I may have read about it before, but it's definitely not important enough to get long term filing status.
Link it again in a few months and I'm sure I'll click again (I was #15 according to the discocounter).
-
11 (at the time of counting) people still haven't heard about that?
Occam's Razor says people are clicking the link because they've probably forgotten that tepid not-very-funny story from literally 5 years ago. It's not the kind of thing you file into long-term memory, it's the kind of thing you read, say "hah" to yourself, and move on.
The bigger question is, why does PJH remember it after all this time? Either 1) he only recently found it, in which case he's tragically unhip, or 2) he actually thought it was funny enough to keep in his brain all these years, in which case he's obviously an alien.

What.
Re-doing Thunderbirds without the puppets and toy vehicles is missing the point of Thunderbirds entirely...
-
There's no vehicles?
Huh.
-
This is the kind of thing which Thunderbirds seared into my fragile infant mind, back in the mists of time:
-
Peter Cook and Dudley Moore killed any chance of me seriously admiring any Gerry Anderson puppet show years ago:
-
I didn't say that, I said no toy vehicles. I guess they'll be CGI too.
Which, to me, is not Thunderbirds.
-
Dear God the faces O_O
-
Wait until you see the jerky motion. Recreated for your enjoyment!
-
... why does PJH remember it...?
No idea about PJH, but I remember it because it's kind of a trigger. It's extremely hard to believe that the EULA has to be too long for a normal person to read to be accurate, and very easy to believe that the EULA is too long to read so that the company can pull some shit in the future.
If they were serious, they would add an option to push it directly into our own git repo or equivalent to run text searches for keywords and track changes.
Maybe I just don't have a sense of humour. That could be it.
-
Speaking of puppets, the king and queen from Mr. Rogers were and are goddamn terrifying.

But some of the cars are no longer toys.

there's that word again.... what does it mean?
Things you do without expecting to be paid for them

So long EULAs are your trigger?

So long EULAs are your trigger?
One of many. If you tried to count them on your fingers, you would be arrested for all the assaults you committed when you were cutting off people's fingers.
-
Are you sure? I know counting-on-your-fingers tricks to go at least over a thousand.

base2 with 10 fingers can count to 1023 (including 0)
it takes a fair bit of dexterity but one could count in base 3 up to ~60k
and counting in base 4 (you have to drop the thumbs for lack of joints, giving only 8 digits) up to ~65k but of course you need a LOT of dexterity
-
Non base10 counting: ALSO WITCHCRAFT
-
The largest practical one is counting the thumbs as 5, and multiplying one hand by 10. That gets you up to 99. Beyond that you'll lose count at some point anyway.

there's that too.

How about counting in base 2 up to 2^8 and using the thumbs as carry and overflow flags?
-
Complicating factor is that, unless you trained heavily, you cannot really move your ring finger and pinky completely individually.

Rubberbands help

sure, but you sacrifice two orders of magnitude and so can only count up to 255

ring finger
Going on a complete tangent, are names for fingers even a thing in English? That one is a literalism from Dutch; the only ones I've ever heard are thumb, index finger, and pinky. And when I hear people mentioning it online at all they are often messing about with first/second/third/longest/etc fingers.
-
Ring finger is pretty common in English.
Thumb, index finger, middle finger, ring finger, little finger / pinky.
-
Specifically, the 'ring finger' is so named because that's the finger traditionally used for wedding/engagement rings (on the left hand anyway).
-
Assumed the explanation of ring finger was unnecessary
