LA Hospital being held hostage by ransomware
Title is pretty much it. Key sentence buried at the bottom:
... it’s in desperate straits without a backup of its patient files.
Why don't you have a fucking backup

@Jarry I tried to follow the link provided to the forum source (https://what.thedailywtf.com/post/565011) to see the original post. It loads the thread at the jellypotato post and then immediately fucks off to somewhere else in the thread.

:fa_gamepad: :fa_car: :fa_bug: Remote control cars: Nissan Leaf edition
Summary: having the VIN for one of these cars allows one to make request to a public facing api to pull data from the car's computer, or (so far) fiddle with climate control stuff. No authentication required.

I once had a recruiter try and recruit me for a position at the company I was already at.
I guess they didn't bother to look at the company name in 1 or both instances.
you should have asked about salaries. you might have been able to negotiate a raise :D

I don't want it getting into google.
Check if there is a question about your task on stackoverflow :P
really we should stage questions and answers on SO for cartman's task, but make sure the answers have some slight issue that prevents them from being totally correct. that way he could catch the cargo culters, and maybe someone who will catch it and try to fix it.

RE: Driving Anti-Patterns - Necro Edition
Naw, I just have trouble imagining that level of dumb. "If only I had some way of seeing behind me!" It's like the urban legend about the blonde woman who thinks she's locked in her car.
Self WTF: when I was in high school I worked for a car dealer. One day I am tasked with delivering a second key to someone who had recently purchased a car. As they were busy else where I was supposed to leave the key in the car and be on my way. I found the car, but it was locked, and I had no idea what to do, so I went back to the office. My boss then informed me I could use the key I was holding to open the door on the car, leave the key inside, lock the door again, and leave.
My only defense is that this happened long enough ago that the cars I was driving at that point still had separate ignition and door keys, and it just didn't register with me at that moment what the functions of that particular key were.

this is not how you handle this
MyClass GetRecord(string columnName, string columnValue, bool quoteValue) { ... ... string.Format("{0}={2}{1}{2}", columnName, columnValue, quoteValue ? "'" : string.Empty) ...

RE: Visual Studio 2017 - JavaScript Intellisense stopped working, how do I bring it back?
have you tried tools > import and export settings > reset all settings? you can export your current settings first and selectively re-import them to put things back you how like and you know won't break js again.

RE: Silicon Valley’s $400 Juicer May Be Feeling the Squeeze
@timebandit the thing was built to use proprietary bags, which are probably unavailable going forward. so its useless one way or other.

RE: Blakeyrat's JavaScript Is Rusty Thread
@asdf or you could do it the javascript way,
if (input.length) { }
that'll skip 0 or null so you don't have to care!

RE: WTF Bites
I received a critical comment on a code review about having two lines of whitespace in a row. I believe my coworkers would prefer to write code at the approximate density of an old greek philosopher.
