I like those also, but mostly because I can hope that they were trolling (in which case, they'd be doing it right).

Huzzah!
But wait...
There are some important limits to this newly offered right, though. For one, research institutions need to have "lawful possession" of the original server code before they relaunch any such server. Reconstructing that server code through emulation, reverse engineering, or other means (as is the case with many fan-run efforts) is still not legally allowed.
The LoC also ruled that any such restoration and play of online games must take place completely within "the physical premises of the eligible library, archives, or museum."
Thanks for nothing, I guess...

I actually clicked on some of those users - let's just say that at least for a significant number your hopes would be betrayed.

The end of Merkel, in two acts.
(She'll step down as party leader in December, not 2021)

@topspin Not knowing much about German political systems--which of those is the job with the real power and which is more ceremonial? Or are they equivalent?

Chancellor is the one with the real power. But our chancellors are usually also the leaders of their respective party to prevent a possible schism between party and chancellor.

Ah. So what complications (if any) might arise from such a schism?

The chancellor stepping down and a dissolution of the current government. You cannot work against your own party.

Whereas if the party head and the chancellor are one person then that person has more pull over what the party does/wants/says?
I'm trying to figure out how consequential this move is. Is it more just symbolic--"Yeah, I know you guys don't like me much anymore, I'll promise not to make more waves" or is it seen as a sign that the party is committing to change directions on things she's pushed?
-
@Benjamin-Hall The details are merky.
-
@Benjamin-Hall Of course they'll have more pull. Because if they're not the same person the chancellor will have another person to convince. Considering that top-ranking party officials don't always see eye-to-eye, this would definitely lead to more conflicts and a greater instability.
This move is highly consequential - it is part of her attempt to shape the future trajectory of her party. This way she has more control over what happens between her stepping down as a party leader and her retirement from chancellorhood.

I'm not actually sure how consequential it will be, but it's a sign of giving in to a lot of criticism (external and inner-party) and will allow the party to start recovering the many lost votes

@topspin Now, if only the SPD would begin to get their shit together. We need at least two stronger parties.

They used to say "Grand Coalition" government is bad for democracy because off the weak opposition. They've been ignoring that for long enough now the "grand" coalition soon will be so eroded it won't even have an absolute majority anymore.

The social democratic party (the letters work out in English, just permute), the left-center part of Merkel's coalition government (with the right-center part being Merkel's own Christian conservatives)

As a side note: Hypatia has the complete capability to run locally, if you have the server and a few key pieces. Only thing that wouldn't work is blob storage.

I expect it involves begging your pardon and offering tea a lot.According to the reports in those fine upstanding bastions of journalistic integrity, the British Press, it involves lots of BSDM in unassuming houses in somewhere like Surbiton. This probably says something about the national character, or maybe just about the press…

Defending his stance, Mr Trump falsely claimed the US was the ”only country in the world” that permits birthright citizenship.
More than 30 countries allow unconditional citizenship to babies born within their borders, including most of the Americas.

Well, you don't want to try to display information that gets elided due to the notch. You have to account for it and draw around it. I assume.

It's even less expensive to just show an entirely black screen. I'm not sure what your point is, though.
