Someone on Twitter rightfully remarked that the poster himself is a monster for trying to hog the entire outlet by plugging a wall wart into the top one.

I was going to comment something very similar before noticing that.

The Apple travel adapters are a bit of a pain that way with US sockets; they've a nasty habit of slowly pulling out if you use the bottom socket, whereas they stay in better in the top (due to very slight differences in rest angle). No such problem with UK or German sockets (or the long US cable, though that's annoying to travel with).
-
@JBert Especially since the sticker also has USB ports, so the wall wart itself would be entirely useless...

Not that bad, the main brick even has facilities to wrap the (outlet facing) cord with the MagSafe (or whatever) portion. I remember a few years ago the internet seemed to have had its mind blown by this fact.
-
@hungrier I remember when the internet's mind was blown by someone demonstrating how to use the Tic-Tacs lid to extract just one mint at a time, even though it's obvious.
Conclusion: the internet is a retard.

I especially like this snippet from the reddit reply chain linked to in said Gawker article (sadly the original source articles are dead links now)
Tictacs are the molotov cocktease of all candy. TicTacs lick just the tip, while slowly grazing one hand over the shaft as the other hand orbits the balls. You want so bad just to completely demoralize the candy, enjoying every inch of its body and flavor, but alas, the candy is a lesbian.

You mean it's a chinese equivalent of "ceci n'est pas une pipe"?
I have a t-shirt with the Death Star on it, and the caption, "ceci n'est pas une lune". :D

I'm disappointed.

@Polygeekery Did they have a plumber jump on the pipes or something?

No, he squatted down on it to see if it would warp somewhere. It didn't. But now he's clean as a fiddle!

Yeah, just plug your cell phone directly into the data-hole in a wall. No way that could backfire.

Ever since I read that article about what China does to your phone when you enter the country, I have never plugged my phone into an unsecured USB port.

What we need is some kind of method of ensuring that when you plug your phone into a USB port for charging, only power goes through.
You could have a setting on your phone, but then how can you be sure it's properly working, or even turned on before you plug your phone.
I know! Let's have a physical device that you put somewhere along the cable and that ensures only power goes through! And, and, and, for convenience, we could make that device as a small box that is part of the USB plug itself, so it's not in your way!
That looks like a genius brand new idea, off to the crowd-funding thread!
-
@remi I know you can actually buy a cord that doesn't transmit anything but power.

But I already have them... Am I from the future?
-
@Tsaukpaetra @pie_flavor I thought I was making a joke by reinventing the power charger, but it seems the world is waaaaaay ahead of me there.
Off to the coffee machine then, maybe that'll help!

What do they do?
Wouldn't it be more cost-effective to do whatever they are doing before the phone leaves manufacturing plant in China rather than waiting for it to return to China in your pocket?

@remi I want coffee in 1 second flat.
-
@Gribnit I've never seen sparkling coffee, so all my coffee is always flat in < 1 s.
Also, you could say my coffee is like this joke. Flat.
-
@remi what about the crema
-
@Gribnit Do you have sparkling crema whereever you are? That sounds something for the Nope! thread...
(and let's stop this coffee discussion before someone summons He-who-only-drinks-Nescafe...)

And it installs all sorts of spyware on it, and the Chinese government now has access to literally every part of your phone, security be damned, and you can't remove it and you can't tell it's there and all they had to do was plug your phone into a USB.

Amusing, but totally fake. It's been a lot longer than a week since I practiced, and I think the only notification I got was about an upgrade. Yay, more gamification of an app that's already too gamified. I think that's the last time I opened the app.

@anonymous234 Somewhat unexpected gesture from a cat. For a dog it means “I am the boss here” (so the pup understands it immediately), but cats don't usually have the need to say that thing.
-
@Bulb I've seen cats do that to kittens. Usually they hold them down by the middle of the back, not the top of the head.
