the Syrian referee crisis
It's huge. The Syrian referees are great people, I love them, and they support me, but they're currently on strike. Why? Because they aren't being paid enough? No, the cause is far more insidious than that; the legalization of marinara has caused the food value of dogs to skyrocket, and the war on terriers is in full flight. We need to stand with the Syrian referees in protesting the atrocity.

A Syrian referee has taken refuge in Belgium and is working towards accreditation by the Belgian Soccer Federation.

Did you know that in 1919 the all-male Congress made it illegal for states to pass any law to prevent women's suffering? Only 18% of the Republicans and 46% of the Democrats had the courage to oppose this amendment. It was ratified as a constitutional amendment in 1920. Laws preventing the suffering of minorities were similarly banned in 1965. These laws have never been repealed.

Brutish racing green.
-
@pydsigner said in THE HOT BATON ISSUES THREAD:

Black cars are the worst of all. Black cars have the highest probability of being thugs. Especially big, hulking black trucks and large SUVs. (Escalades are a prime offender.)
Not even joking here. Just think about it; you know it's true. Imagine some car zooming around, cutting people off, tailgating everyone, and just generally acting like it owns the road.
What color is this car you're imagining painted?
It's black, of course, because we've all seen black cars do this plenty of times in our ordinary day-to-day existence.
-
Everyone knows that black cars are bigger.

@HardwareGeek An Escalade? (IME they're the worst of the worst, no matter what color they're painted.)

-
I actually have never heard of a Lincoln Mark.
There are a few certain vehicles I associate strongly with horrible driving. Escalades, heavy pickups (F-150, Silverado, etc), semi trucks, and (particularly in California, where one of the stupidest, most dangerous stunts possible is fully legal) motorcycles.
-

I associate it with BMWs. Years ago, BMW used to advertise that driving one improved the skill of the driver, to which my response was that it was a good thing, because they seemed to need all the help they could get.

It's a truck, made by Lincoln. Sufficient?

@masonwheeler said in THE HOT BATON ISSUES THREAD:

Technically, a Lincoln Continental. There was a whole series starting in the 60s -- Mark III, Mark IV, etc. I think they're called MKX now, or something.

Oh looks like there's a specific sub-designation... Didn't realize that the Mark line included actual cars.
-
@pydsigner So according to the Wikipedia onebox, that Lincoln Mark truck is a fancied-up F-150, which I already specifically called out.

You called out F-150s in general, which I had an issue with. There is a subset of people driving F-150s who just want to look cool in a nice truck who are often offensive drivers, but that feel is exacerbated when you combine that culture with an intentionally luxury-use-only truck.
Also I hadn't ever looked up the Lincoln Mark before so I didn't know there was a relationship between the two…

I don't even have enough fingers to count the number of people I know who have suffered serious injuries crashing a motorcycle. I consider riding a motorcycle to be an undeniable sign of insanity.
