@stillwater It sounds to me like xUnit is still good, and you just assumed the docs were leaving stuff out instead of actually being everything there was to know.
False.
Where do y'all get your wallpapers anyways? I use nothing but unsplash.

Apparently if you have windows set to use onedrive folders for all your documents and pictures and such, visual studio also decides to use a documents subdirectory. Which would be fine, but onedrive doesn't have exclusions in a meaningful way, so all your local projects get their bin and packages folders synched to onedrive.
Lame.
The fuckiest thing I have heard all day.

You have the same problem @Tsaukpaetra has. What is with you people refusing to work on Tuesdays? I'm seeing a pattern but can't reason about it.
MS gonna peek into all the codez and then delete all the codez of competitors. Monetise all the githubs and also make microsoft login mandatory
@anonymous234 What's the general consensus on Mr. Linus Torvalds around these parts? Personally he seems like he knows his stuff and all that but I would never go for a beer with that guy. Looks very snobbish and probably interrupts you when you're talking.

I spent a solid year and a half trying to wrap my head around all the git fuckiness before I decided I was too stupid for this shit and gave up :(
@jaloopa said in Rumours: Microsoft to buy github:
@stillwater that makes you cleverer than the people who accept the Stockholm syndrome and convince themselves it's good software
What other Version control system is there for the OSS world anyways? I'm asking cos I'm not familiar with anything other than Git. And oh god, every startup here uses git and the cool kids somehow convinced the PHB type folks everywhere and big corp companies are moving to Git too.
EDIT: Goddamn Windows' VCS is Git at MS. Can't really complain about big corps adopting Git anymore.
@Douglasac What's with all the stammering? Jesus!
@blakeyrat said in Rumours: Microsoft to buy github:
There are other products out there, but GitHub's client software got really awful a few years back (I guess in all fairness I should retry it now, maybe it's better.) There's something called GitKraken which I haven't used because the pun in their name is fucking awful.
Having not many choices in this matter when it comes to using Git, I only use the Github Desktop Client. Even if it is not the best thing out there, it is definitely not sourcefuckingtree.
Also everytime I've gone "Hey would you be happier if the company gave you a mac instead?" to someone using Ubuntu the answer was always a Yes. If people had money and they wanted unix-y things they're getting a goddamn macbook and use it, not stick with Ubuntu.

golang seems to be getting more popular
Why though? Can someone ELI5 why it might be technically considered superior? I've been searching for an answer to this very question for about two years now and I've never gotten a straight answer!
@dkf Again the problem here is not the language as much the people around it. A good chunk of the codebase devolves into just plain old JS at one point because adhering to type checks when writing JS gives these people the very kind of friction that prevented them from learning more than one language to use on the front end and back end in the first place
Weak troll. Try again.
We've established the docs suck so bad for quite a while now. Oh, for a fun read, I suggest you go read about the closed issues at the bottom of any of the .net core docs. It's pathetic.
@bjolling Looking at that chart, you are not getting a job if you leave the one you currently somehow managed to get.
But yeah, I see a chart like that and I assume you must be a healthy normal individual. Good for you.
@Bulb Laziness at learning other languages I understand. When that same laziness leaks onto not learning how to write JS properly, well that hurts everyone. Also debugging with some of the frameworks is such a pain that I use console.log liberally everywhere.
@dkf said in "Best" JS IDE:

myeverybody's mileage tries very hard to avoid writing JS.
FTFY. When it comes to JS anything that makes it less awful is what I look for. I ve tried many IDEs and VS code makes coding in JS almost pleasant.
@sweaty_gammon said in .NET Unit testing docs fuckery?:
I spent 2 or 3 days trying to track down why tests were failing all over the place, but not in VS when using Test Explorer. The week before we updated from .NET Core 2.0 to 2.1 so I thought it was a incompatibility between .NET 2.1 and our current code. So I assumed it was that.
Nope it was the XUnit runner
You were not aware of the depreciated runner? How did you find out?

Are you looking at taking up work that involves frond-end fuckery?
@jaloopa said in Help me learn new thingies!!!!!:
Because every thread that gets over 100 posts has about even odds of devolving into a language flamewar or Git vs other source control flamewar anyway
Why would there be a Git vs other source control flamewar in the first place when everybody knows Git sucks and should be nuked from orbit ?

Don't y'all do Redbull anymore? Redbull was my goto for emergencies that require caffeine until it became a need-to-have-one-after-lunch-everyday kinda deal.

I usually don't drink Red Bull because it's expensive. But I find that there are some energy drinks that are delicious (Monster Rehab is the standout here) and some that just taste like chemicals (e.g. Rockstar Sugar-Free). Sometimes I want the former and sometimes I actually do want the latter (probably a desire acquired when I drank alcohol, and a replacement for it).
Oh yeah Redbull is expensive. I got rid of the habit cos it was biting into my wallet too. When it comes to taste, I liked Monster better but for some reason it was difficult to get hold of Monster than Redbull where I lived when I was heavy on Energy drinks. Oh yeah I remember this energy drink in the UK called Boost or Charge, I'm not sure I remember but it was 50p ($ 0.67) and there was a bigger version that came in a goddamn plastic Bottle and costed a little more. I drank more of that than the Redbull I've consumed till day for my entire life. That shit was addictive AF.

EDIT: I just checked - startups in the payments industry, new discount brokers, weirdass saas services, real time systems are all using Go except one place which was using Scala.
We have our own silicon valley-ish city called Bangalore. The Pop. density is through the fucking roof. The prime reason seems to be the housing laws are fuck-all. There are Men's hostels popping out of every single corner, some operating out of highrise buildings too. Imagine that. Add subletting and sub-sub-letting to the mix. There are many places where the number of Men's hostels > number of houses. There are so many of them highly concentrated around the neighbourhoods close to the IT companies. Add impatient people on the road, Honking all the goddamn time esp. when it's not yellow, not green but goddamn RED!
If it was not for the super pleasant weather, people would go batshit crazy. :(

In theory the Apple music stuff is DRM free now, right? So you just put iTunes in a VM to grab the tracks and wazam, solution!
Only the tracks you already own via CD rips or whatever. Anything from Apple Music/ ITunes is not DRM free.

I don't need Indian artists. I mainly have a ton of prog rock i painstakingly collected through a few years mostly from the 80s and 90s that I'm struggling to find on Soundcloud. We don't have Spotify over here :(
