WTF is happening with Windows 11? And nothing else

Still, Unity sucks. Unity 3D engine sucks. Biden's Unity sucks. I have nothing but negative connotations for the word.
Unity IoC?

@Applied-Mediocrity Assassin's Creed Unity (on launch anyway).

Well, my Android phone keeps nagging me to restart, because "stability and reliability" if it hasn't been powercycled for 28 days.
Mine doesn't nag (probably too old!), but things do go to shit if I don't.

like being @Tsaukpaetra, except I was allowed to go home at the end of the day.
I think he's allowed to go home at the end of the day, too. However, he's still @Tsaukpaetra, even at home.

Mine doesn't nag, it just crashes for no apparent reason. Well, most of the time, it's because the battery got below ~50% (<50% == 0, doncha know?), but yesterday it rebooted while it was plugged into the charger.

Sounds like a seriously miscalibrated battery fuel gauge. Possibly a dying battery as well.

I looked into upgrading mine recently. AT&T keeps bugging me "you're eligible for an upgrade! Get up to $800 credit for your old phone". So I looked. Yeah. "Up to". I could get a $10 credit. I'll wait until mine starts doing what yours is!

This. The phone is almost 6 years old. If it had a user-replaceable battery, I'd have replaced it a few years ago.

It should be able to just restart sometime when you're not using it; that's what mine does (and almost all phone+tablet apps are written to handle aggressive unloading so it shouldn't be a problem).

Nice try, but you're @HardwareGeek. Any battery is user-replaceable for you. Just admit you're

AT&T keeps bugging me
Nobody bugs me. I bought mine unlocked from Fry's, so no carrier-installed crapware. Also no carrier-provided updates.
-

That too. But I don't have the tools or experience to disassemble things like cell phones (at least not if I want to reassemble them and have them work). My hardware knowledge is what's inside the chips, not how to put them together into a working device.

The phone doesn't do that. When I log into the AT&T web site to download my bill it always has the "you have a notification" upgrade reminder.
-
@dcon said in WTF is happening with Windows 11? And nothing else:

Why? I have my T-Mobile bill set to auto-pay. I can't remember the last time I logged into their website.
Also, I have a T-Mobile SIM. They don't really know or care what phone I have it plugged into, so they don't bug me about upgrading when I do log in.
-
@dkf I'd complain about having to do this but eh, a program getting to know when it stops is kinda a luxury - the halting by power removal problem seems hard in general so why pretend.
-
@dkf said in WTF is happening with Windows 11? And nothing else:

It's a phone. It should be able to receive and make phone calls at all times
(whether I actually want it to is irrelevant)

So...Windows 11. W11. Not as fun as a Wii. Really annoyed with the bottom-only Taskbar. Muscle Memory means I keep going to the left side of the screen to launch programs. Maybe I'll look into one of the shell replacements.
-
Win11 status annoyed
somebody didn't do their jobs did they ... supposed to be doing basic client tests yet wasted > 2h because:
Defender eating the client (exceptions should be placed on the application temp folder), the app was pointing to a production environment instead of some test environment and I didn't have the rights to fix the db config myself and they didn't even check the m*therfucking minimum requirements and either some VC++ shit is missing or some older .NET version or bothbitchslapped the incompetent fools in a ticket and started greasing the escalator
on the positive side: at least the app starts

I put up with the new File Explorer context menu for almost an entire day before going back to the classic one. I can see how the new one would be nice for touchscreen use, but unless/until a few of my favorite programs update to the Windows 11 context menu system I'll stick with the old menu.
Looking at the most common ones I use: one hasn't looked into it yet, one barely admits the GUI exists, and one is likely in a death spiral and I should probably switch to its vastly more annoying but more popular competitor even though I don't feel like doing it.
-
@Parody All they had to do to clean up the context menu mess was setting up a way to individually toggle all
*
andFolder
+ any context menu items added for specific file types (sorted by handler) in one place, in Settings > Apps. Mainly so I can yeet the goddamn Edit with Paint 3D, Share with Skype and the likes without resorting to the greatest Windows GUI of them all.

@Applied-Mediocrity insert disclaimer here by Raymond Chen about MS not being homogeneous and special about doing it wrong, but it is still ironic that all the awful things 3rd party programs keep doing so the shell has to work around them, MS also does.
I’m sure someone got a nice bonus for fucking everyone up with “Skype is the only program anyone would ever use, put it everywhere!”

Rinse repeat a few years later with Teams.

As if getting Windows 11 wasn't enough.

At least, the malware is compatible with more hardware than the legitimate product.

An Important Message from the Play Store

If you have installed Windows 11 on a computer that does not technically meet the minimum requirements, you may well have seen these alerts advising you that your system is not up to scratch.
I did and I have not, so I guess I can look forward to those.

@Atazhaia You mean the files are just where we left them?
-
@Atazhaia said in WTF is happening with Windows 11? And nothing else:
Since it's all stuff in Windows.old, the "fix" should be simple. Always run the Disk Cleanup utility afterwards and nuke it all. (I regularly do that in my VMs after an update so the snapshot doesn't include 5G of install files)

Nope! They moved!

Can someone check if this shit's real?
I find it hard to believe that they would do something this stupid, but I haven't used Windows for a few years and maybe I'm stuck in the past somehow.

I don't know about Windows, but this is a real thing on macOS:
