The car can't tell the time. What an inspiring time we live in.
Why on does a car even need to be able to tell the time‽
… or rather date; having clock on the dashboard is useful for a bunch of things, but I never missed date there.

@Bulb If you want to have time, you might also want date for DST changing purposes.
But as @Tsaukpaetra said already, GPS would be a perfectly good time source. It's accurate within tens of nanoseconds.

Yes but it doesn't matter if the manufacturer takes the perfectly good time source and screws up displaying it for 8 months.

and position to know in which timezone you are and the ever changing timezone definitions to know when DST starts and ends and … I have my dash clock set to UTC+2 (DST for me) all the time and just take it into account … just like I have the kitchen clock (on the oven) permanently set to UTC+1 and just take it into account.
Yeah, if you have navigation, you have all those data, so you can just use them. I don't really want a built-in navigation – the one in the phone is free and easier to update.

The problem with GPS is that it has fairly short counter that rolls over every 19.6 years (1024 weeks). Which occurred from April 6 to 7, 2019 for the second time already. Of course it got the device manufacturers by surprise.

I have a clock which is set 30 minutes ahead or behind depending on whether DST is active or not.

Well, it seems that every idiot and their mother wants to jump on the crypto bandwagon today. It's been in the news already for a bit but I just learned that Signal actually wants to implement their own digital shittoken scheme so that users can transfer money to each other anonymously.
First of all: I don't trust a company which is pathologically incapable of keeping functionality in sync across their two major platforms. See, on Android you can create a backup of your message history and even export that to something like Nextcloud. On iOS? Big fat nope. The best you can do is transfer your message history. But only from a working iPhone to a working iPhone. No, not from iPhone to iPad or vice versa. Device broken or you need to reset for some reason? Well, you're SOL. I'm not aware of anything which would prevent such a thing. I mean, I wrote an app myself which imported an encrypted backup from arbitrary locations into my app's database.
Secondly: This is beyond stupid. Y'see, encrypted communication is fine and dandy and governments usually can't do too much about it if implemented correctly due to all those pesky privacy laws and stuff. Basically a pretty much "hands off" situation.
But: Do you know what is very much not hands off? Financial transactions. I think the very moment Signal actually offers this service in one of the big markets (like the US), the hammer will come down. Because they themselves provided this vulnerable point of attack.

Not to my knowledge. As I said, my app does this just fine and I also have other apps which also support importing a backup from somewhere else. Hell, they could even store it on the iCloud if Apple throws a snit - as long as you encrypt properly it you could store it anywhere.

Yeah, perhaps I should clarify it more to "Their interpretation of Apple TOS."
After all, a game I play specifically bans cloud saves if the user happens to be in United States because they believe that Google TOS prevents them from doing so. If you're anywhere else, they let you use Google Games' cloud save ability, but if not? Fuck you, and you're going to have to
trudge through website mazes support if you ever move devices or (god forbid) reset it!callemail

You also have to add "Apple's interpretation of the Apple TOS". It's not like they get applied consistently and just because some app is allowed to do something doesn't mean other apps are allowed to do the same. Or that you're allowed to object or ask questions.

Not to mention that a blockchain is literally a permanent record of all transactions ever made, date, time, sender, recipient and amount, publicly available to everyone who wants it. This is literally the opposite of anonymous.disregard that

They're using Monero under the hood where tracing transactions is a whole lot harder—when it comes to anonymity, Marlinspike knows his shit. Of course using a coin that's super popular among criminals and malware operators makes it an even worse idea WRT government regulation.

I literally know people .
Older couple from Germany living up to all the clichés: they came to visit, went for a hike, got completely soaked in the rain; next day I find tissue paper neatly hung up on the clothesline.
?
"Oh, we haven't used it yet, it just got wet from the rain, no reason to throw it away".
I also learned that their policy was to use their underwear for a week, then turn it inside-out and use it for another week.
Early 2010s, I shit you not.

My in-laws have a clock set 20 minutes ahead, because that's about how long it takes them to drive to town, so they (my father-in-law, mostly) like to know about what time they'll arrive if they leave "now."

There's no reason for this particular thought to be Garagey, I hope.
But one particular Garage member. () has made topics about how you can't find programmable (i.e. saves complex key sequences even if you take the batteries out) TV remotes anymore. And one reason for this is voice recognition remotes, where you talk into a microphone and Your Cable Company's Server guesses at what channel you want to watch or whether you want to skip through the ads.
What I'm saying is your meme reminds me of me, so I'd have posted it in Things That Remind You Of Garage Members.
