I thought that was a typo for "cat driven development". As in, let the cat walk on the keyboard and commit the result. That would explain a few of the articles.

Paging @Maciejasjmj, because he issued /part before i could hit enter and i don't want the effort to go to waist.
<accalia`work> Maciej, i'm not sure it works the same way over on your side of the pond as it does on mine, but here no one questions what is in a black background green foreground terminal on a developer's desktop.

Maybe, but the network admins might not appreciate
irc.freenode.org
chomping on their bandwidth.

@ben_lubar actually, old SunOS contained a warning if someone removed a CPU at runtime. Don't remember if there was a corresponding warning if someone inserted a new one, though.
-
@Mikael_Svahnberg Fairly sure that was a 4.2 BSD thing. We got warnings if we pulled processor cards out of the Sequent boxes; Dynix (pre Dynix/ptx at least) was a 4.2 BSD derivative as well. Don't remember getting anything much if you plugged new processors in, though. TOPIC ran faster, was all.
Yeah, my beard is getting grey, now you mention it.

FTFY
At a previous workplace, there were a few IT interns who were ordered to re-wire the same 5 racks at least 10 times until it looked like this. Those poor guys spent two weeks in the server room.

@ben_lubar
At the risk of ing, loading data from disk will often result in causing some CPU load on the server, as it processes unloading pages from memory and replacing them with pages from the disk.Not to mention the whole "accessing data from RAM is faster than from disk" thing that is also a performance consideration in the DBA realm. Hence, most database servers default to using as much RAM for storing pages as you allow them to, and come with a setting to limit how much they use (that, in the case of MS-SQL, at least, defaults to a Very Big Number(tm) - 2TB for MS-SQL - so as to be effectively unlimited at this point in time)

[14:01] <_onyx47> do I really need extra software to switch between front and back outputs? [14:02] <Jarry> you usually need lubricant for that
-
[14:43] dkf (what's the most baroque option you can think of? Multiply that by one of the complex 5th roots of unity and you've got the perl approach…) [14:44] dkf the use of the fifth root satisfies the “there's more than one way to do it” requirement

[22:06] <Tsaukpaetra> : Although you might see people from time to time, they are most likely products of your imagination. Simple mathematics tells us that the population of the Universe must be zero. Why? Well given that the volume of the universe is infinite there must be an infinite number of worlds. But not all of them are populated; therefore only a finite number are. Any finite number divided by infinity is as close to zero as makes no odds, therefore we can round the average popu [22:06] <Tsaukpaetra> lation of the Universe to zero, and so the total population must be zero. [22:07] <Tsaukpaetra> !magic8 Did I clean the kitchen well? [22:07] <Tsaukpaetra_bot> Tsaukpaetra: Unlikely. [22:07] <Tsaukpaetra> :'( [22:07] <pydsigner> Why would you divide by infinity though? [22:07] <DJ_Dichotomy> Solipsism through probability and calculus [22:08] <Tsaukpaetra> No idea, just saw it posted in a chat and reposted for giggiles. [22:10] <pydsigner> Well go back and ask for a refund on the oranges!
