That's a good question. In the next beta, the system pushes that button for you every 15 minutes to keep you under 80% of 500 instead of nagging you
Seriously? Are you shitting me? Why are you making those kind of choices for the user! What the hell? Maybe I've had a busy fucking month and eventually would like to come back? Maybe a topic I track blows up. Neither of those mean I want to ignore EVERYTHING I AM TRACKING. The collateral damage is absurd
Because the server sends a load of information about the Unread/New topics down to the client - so it was capped to avoid sending way too much information down, rather than simply sending less down like y'know just the fucking total.
And yet this is the one thing that ISN'T INFINITE SCROLLED???
Defroster? Who needs a defroster? I live in LA, my windows don't frost up.
The SUV strained to get away, but the Accord was dumping all its fuel into the injectors. It couldn't last. But it didn't need to.
This upsets me, they obviously know nothing about cars. This would simply make the mixture too rich and reduce power output. Despite what any ricer teenager will tell you, there is no way to make an unmodded, 4cyl honda engine make more than roughly 180 HP. Meanwhile, SUVs like that used for VIPs often have massive engines with turbochargers and aggressive tuning to prevent exactly this situation.
IMO It's the lack of pagination that does it. Pages help to disrupt the conversation into discrete and useful units and require effort to be involved in. This is in direct contrast to infinite scrolling that pretty much just pours trash at your face until you've been sated like your scarfing down your tenth bag of chips
I don't understand why you thank Discourse for SockBot and related? What is stopping you from writing similar bots for other, more functional forum software? I made a little web-app for posting anonymous quotes and maintain a web server purely because why not? Pet projects don't need external excuses, the excuse is that they are fun
I cast my vote of No Confidence for the following reasons:
Scroll-bar bullshit: Everyone already knows this
LISTS DON'T AUTOCONTINUE! Jeff have you ever used any functional application in your life?
It doesn't feel like a forum, it feels like a very shitty chatroom, and since when do chatrooms encourage "civilized" discourse?
JavaScript rendering: Slow as all holy hell
A billion ajax calls
Who ever needed a clean history anyway? You will just clear it after your nightly porn session!
ServerCooties- Most places that run phpBB don't shit themselves daily, and for unknown reasons
Jeff comes off as a holier-than-thou douche who thinks he is funny with his stupid image jokes
Look at the top few hundred posts of this thread. Look how the community has shrunk since Discourse
EDIT: I forgot, Discourse HIJACKS MY SHORTCUT KEYS: Fuck you Discourse! This is MY computer, I paid for it! I manage it! It is my damn baby, don't you DARE try to take control of it in ANY way!
/endrant
tl:dr Discourse sucks, what else is new
@PJH Although that would explain the hideous prices they charge for hosted installs
the issue self corrects
No Sam, it does not self correct. In the industry, this is considered a fucking hack
How many unread topics do you have?
also
"You have more than X unread items; only the latest X will be listed.
The original complaint was that unread can not be trusted
New topics are capped at the site level to 2/5th of max_new_unread_topics, out of the box that is 200
This is the gravatar thing all over again, except worse. Stop and think it through before writing the code
True dat
Turns out the vast majority of videogames aren't good.
400ms delay
Let it be known ladies and gentlemen, that the reason we are deleting your shit without your consent is that it will cost you an unfathomable HALF A SECOND
Never mind the fact that our stupid inner platform system where we abuse the browser's rendering engine and make it our bitch and reinvent the wheel in a javascript based "Rendering" "Engine" means you waste that much time even trying to get the next chunk of twenty posts to load in.
Fuck me sideways sam, is it difficult to remove the limit? Is it easier to delete everyone's stuff? Serious question here, is this work around (I guess you could call it that) because the real solution will take actual development effort or is this some ideology you are forcing on us?
@pydsigner Funny thing that. The boundary box gets basically nuked and paved regularly, and all the work on the internal boxes is on shared accounts, and it's actually specifically forbodden in our working agreement
"As a voter, I'd like to directly elect the president"
CLOSED: Fixed in USA-2020-electoral college workaround
@accalia HIlariously, the whole joke of the electoral college is that if we keep it, we can change voting to be however the fuck we want without writing any legislation, and then just pledge the electoral college voters to the "Winning" candidate
@accalia Turns out we are trying to rule lawyer our way out of that too:
Don't worry guys, here in Maine, we already know what it's like to have an incredibly unpopular leader. It wont be the end of the world and will be interesting in the senate.
Meanwhile, we just voted in Ranked Choice Voting for things like governor!
@Jarry You didn't even take the remotely interesting parts of it
This entire application makes me seethe with rage and nausea
@aliceif I'm thoroughly confused, and this time it isn't even accompanied by a boner
@error open one of those other editors in the meantime. They probably have that feature working
@error shit wait yeah, I'm way out of my regex depth. I'd make a simple script to do this instead
