:wtf: How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread)

Now you've made me crave cake. Maybe I can get my wife to make one this week β¦
Learn to cook.
For example: just yesterday my wife and I wanted cupcakes. So I made them. And now, right now, this very moment, I'm going to go get one of those cupcakes and eat it. And when I do, I'm going to think of you craving cake and having to hope someone else gets it for you. Maybe.

Oh, I can. But my wife actually loves baking to the point that she puts baking supplies on her wish lists for me to get her as presents. This is the joy of marrying a food scientist.
I ended up getting brownies instead of cake last night (they were going in the oven as I walked in the door). Close enough.

Glad to see everything working correctly on meta.d...
-
You have a working account?

Heh...LOL. I read this and thought about @blakeyrat.
-
I need a clearer, simpler, "explain it to me like I am four years old" explanation.
Yes, we know.
-
-
I have no idea, but that comment was actually from last August, so it could very well be OBE.
-
Oh yeah, I know. But it's not taken that long for them to go from "Ember updates solve all the problems" to "Let's bypass Ember".
-
Shit's not real until there's CDN in the mix.
-
If I was less lazy I'd do the searches and do a mega-post of all the hundreds of times a Discourse developer told us that Ember upgrades would solve all their performance problems the first 6 months this forum was around.
-
Shit's not real until there's CDN in the mix.
"Is there any way we can put the favico into a CDN and load it with Javascript?"

Only if you dynamically generate it for every request. Gotta have your hand crafted favicos on every page...
-
You laugh, but how else do the "x new posts" favicons work?
-
I thought that was just custom title text, I didn't think it was favicons...?
-
Say, since we're talking meta.derp, LETS CHECK ON TODAY'S BUGS:
Can't clear the NEW notification if there's a whisper at the end of the thread
(some discodev) too bad no promise to fix
You must reply to the topic in public so the last reply isn't a whisper. So whispers are such great ideas and easy to implement, except when they expose themselves, stop working, or otherwise fuck things up in such a way that end users have to hack their way around them.
I was going to find others, but then found this:
There are at least three dick-sucking links to Jeff's blog, denial of jellypotato, and then this gem:
(video about Your Community Is Worth More Than A Single Customer)
(discourse user) "Even if they aren't a paying customer, I'd say the principle still applies."lololololololololol
Allow me to Discotranslate that for you:
"You can ban entire communities so that a few users will continue to suck your metaphorical godcock. And a single paying customer is allowed to trump everything-- QA, performance, common sense-- literally anything, because fuck your community."
And there's a mention in there about Jeff and Empathy, but I couldn't read it through the laughing tears.

LOL
Will see if I can fix but I make no promise.
This is a classic discofeature. It was added more or less on a whim (like...one guy asked for it) towards the end of a release cycle, where it went out into the world in a "stable" release as just the sort of half baked bullshit you'd expect from these guys.
...and now for the second guy (jellypotato denier):
Discourse does not slide you around every which way either -- it only skips down to the latest unread post.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
-
it could very well be OBE
While my understanding of the British honours system is a bit vague, I'm quite certain nobody deserves an OBE for developing Discourse.
-
There's a DiscoOption for the number on the favicon.
I thought I was being facetious...
-
No facetious for you!
-
Having turned on the favicon option after seeing your post, I am already regretting it. It seems stuck on showing the number 1 for no fucking reason. I am now going to turn it off after just 10 minutes...
-
-
Fuck. Now it is stuck like that. Maybe the wind changed on it...
-
Ah, you got to change the favicon 2 times, otherwise the CDN cache might confuse the old versions.

Make sure your reply consists solely of the word "bump".

Glad to see everything working correctly on meta.d...
Now I'm curious about what was in that thread for it to get deleted.

Dealing with a toxic user on our Discourse forum
TRWTF here is this OP. Sounds like a complete wanker who can't handle someone disagreeing with him. He tries to rile up the community against his opponent, and when that fails, he runs off to Jeff to cry his little eyes out, asking for pat on the head.
"But Jeff (sniff) he also said how discourse is stupid (sniff) and and how we should revert to our old forum (sniff). See what an ass he is, Jeffy? See how I'm the good guy here!?"
What a little bitch.

Are we sure he's not one of us trolling? This sounds like one of us trolling.

They'd already be here, snickering, all proud with themselves.

Without doing anything in this topic (not even scrolling)...
Filed under: No, 429 does not mean OK, Fucking hell, why are we still on this crap? and When do we migrate?
-
: I can't put ??? into the thread title, it just goes back to ?
: you'll have to use a different unicode ? to work around that.
-
Also, as per the earlier linked thread about improving DiscoDocker...

The discussion got heated cause it is hard not to be defensive when people tell you, you are doing it wrong
Self awareness, how does it work?

You'll need to be on latest before this can be considered a bug.

You'll need to be on latest before this can be considered a b
I hate to say it but there's nothing unusual with saying that.
I'm not saying he's right, mind, just that it's a common mindset--I'm almost positive JWZ mentions it in his CADT rant.

Indeed...that level of dedication speaks to a certain obsession. If you ever wound up between Lorne and I'd suggest smartly stepping right the fuck out of the way.
-
As far as I can tell, it's the Rails asset pipeline that he's talking about - LESS -> CSS, ES
62015 -> ES5, images -> slightly smaller images. Some of it might even be request or user-specific. Lots of magic, happens at run-time, definitely not the right way to do it ... but it's there in Rails, and it's so easy to use ... and it bites you in the arse once you need to stop
-
happens at run-time
? So⦠there's no way to pre-compile all assets when deploying a new version? Seriously?
-
Not, there isn't ... they just aren't using it, for whatever reason.
-
they just aren't using it, for whatever reason
Damn. For a minute, you lead me to believe that I finally found TR .
-
-
It's compiled before it gets to the client, thus, pre-compiled. As opposed to serving the LESS and having some javascript compile it into CSS and dynamically loaded into the page.
-
LESS
That so doesn't fit Discobranding. Maybe they should rename it to MORE. Or CRUFT. And make their own parser for it, with regex and blow.
