:wtf: How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread)
-
Also, what happened to Jeff's "give it 6 months and everyone will love the new forum" prediction. It's been a year and half now.
-
We loved it so hard it broke and then he banned us.
-
Does everyone else's usercard take 30+ seconds to load, or is it just my crappy network?
And I accidentally lost my 4965 notifications bubble because I visited my profile :(
-
It's not just you.
-
Does everyone else's usercard take 30+ seconds to load
Oh yes. Very much so. If you've been here for a week and your profile still takes less than 20 seconds to load, you've beenI would certainly not suggest that requesting usercards would be a viable DOS technique for discourse. Nor would I point to
ab
, tor proxying and meta.discohorse.

You're lucky.
It errors with a 404 about 1 in 4 attempts for me.
-
Actually, given the overall quality of Discourse, that's surprisingly 500 OK.
-
Newest annoying as piss feature - if you expand the likes to show you who liked something, and then someone else likes it too, it doesn't add them to the expanded list. You have to click to close the list and then click it again to update. What the hell. (Even though I know that is fixed from the even MORE annoying behavior where it would auto-close itself every time someone new liked it, so you couldn't read the list at all if there was any liking going on)
-
Likes are still racey as fuck, aren't they.

While reading that, I think I just witnessed someone liking @darkmatter's post and the like disappearing immediately when the edit came in shortly afterwards.
-
Probably me playing with the likes
-
It was me. I managed to trigger, variously, "504 OK", "You are not permitted to view this requested resource", "-1 likes" and jellypotato.
-

Dischorse you awful pile of crap. Learn to count.
-
"504 OK", "You are not permitted to view this requested resource", "-1 likes"
... but I still saw the like temporarily.
-
You should have moused-over to see the link to undefined, too! Discourse Like-bug golf!
-
Holy shit, by likespamming this comment (currently at 1 like), I can get anywhere from 0-3 likes displayed(), and also various diverse error boxes...

I don't think you're the only one spamming likes. That's why it's going from 0 - 3 ;)
-
Also, if I like the post, it does auto-add my avatar to the likes list. But not for others. DISCOURSISTENCY!
-
-
I just managed to get a 500 error popup after clicking on the logo and the overview still loaded perfectly fine behind the error popup. What the actual fuck? That doesn't make any sense at all!
-
We should get like 15 people to likespam the same comment continuously until Discurses crashes.
-
We should find out the physical location of our server first, because none of us want to be near this:
-
Oh, yeah, likespamming gets discohorse's tits in a twist in a big way
-
until Discurses crashes
And how would we be able to distinguish that from its normal behavior?
-
bookmark spamming is fun, too.
-
Yeah, I know, TR is that I'm still surprised. By now, we all should have lost our faith in humanity and the purpose of life. I think we may need a Post-Discourse Stress Disorder support group when this is over.
-

reason why the likes topic had to be shut down.
this topic has 1k+ posts in it. SO now likespam causes dischorse to crap brix.
One can only imagine how bad the db contention is with it trying to run that godawful megaquery to count & update likes statistics with everyone clicking likes like mad.

That's nothing. Find bigger thread, developer console, auto-like-spamming script, leave overnight...
-
Also, one more thing I've just noticed:
At the bottom, you see a "show more" and an arrow pointing down. The search popup takes about half the screen, so that obviously means that clicking the down-arrow is going to expand the popup to show more results, right?
HAHAHA NO FUCK YOU, in Discourse "down arrow" means "take me the fuck away from the thread and onto the search page".
-
auto-like-spamming script
don't forget to tune it to ~20 spams/minute to dodge the 429 bot limiter response.
-
You get the same result if you press Enter to "perform" the search instead of waiting and letting it just auto search.

and letting it justendlessly to auto search. because it just simply refuses to work like half of the time or more

We did that already. Both in a live browser and in headless V8.
-

And I accidentally lost my 4965 notifications bubble because I visited my profile :(This reminds me of the Bookmarks screen in my profile. I collected 500+ of them, now viewing them takes ages and removing even a single one means that screen is frozen for 5 seconds.
Also, "View raw" seems to take multiple seconds now?

If you try it on a freshly baked post, yes.
Or it could just be the cootiestorm that we're currently experiencing. Hold on to your butts!
-
obviously all of this is the likes topic's fault, right?
-
"504 OK", "You are not permitted to view this requested resource", "-1 likes" and jellypotato.
Someone needs to write a Wheel Of Discourse in HTML5/JS ...
-
-
Here's a really easy one (that I can't remember seeing before, but I may have missed it in the quagmire);
It's 2015 - when you click on this why the fuck does it open in the same tab instead of a new one like, ummm., every other website (or at least every other forum)?
-
Discosetting.
edit: now my preferences page finally loaded.
-
Interesting.
So there is an option for "You're doing it wrong"(tm) where the default is yes?

Typical Discosetting. Discourse provides the setting that allows you to do something, but that doesn't mean that actually doing it is supported.

To be fair, they stole that idea from KDE.
-
My first ever 504 OK! I'm so excited! What do I win?
-
-
<--- skotl
-
skotl
An accurate description, actually. That sounds just like the sound a crying person makes while sobbing. :D
What does your name mean, anyway?
-
Wow. What the fuck did I do to piss you off?
"Skotl" means fuck you. See my ama if you have any other questions.
Edit: I've re-read your post and may have over-reacted. Let me know if you were just taking the piss and I'll apologise! - post edited to remove my arseholedness
