Hey, plenty of suckers pay around that much per month for cable or satellite TV...
True, but at least in the UK, the satellite/cable bill doesn't fund all of the channels, just those that are run by the same people who run the satellite/cable service. Which is still crappy, admittedly.

just those that are run by the same people who run the satellite/cable service
It pays for more channels than just those run by the provider.

Games, mostly
You still have the option of PlayStation/Xbone, or you do like me : boot Win7 when you want to game.

Eh, doesn't matter to me anyway: I'm on Freeview :D

Ads in an OS you paid at least $80 for is fine?
Commercial system comes with commercials. Film at 11.

even Xfce's WM starts bothering me
I'm quite fond of being able to toggle any window's always-on-top status, and xfwm4 exposes controls for that as standard. It would be nice if Windows offered the same ability.
On the other hand, the fact that a Windows file chooser allows you to do just about anything you can do in a Windows Explorer file browser window is also occasionally useful, so I sometimes wish the Linux file browsers and file choosers were better integrated.
On the other other hand, being able to browse network locations over multiple protocols is a nice thing about Linux file browsers that I wish was in Windows Explorer.
Where are the Xfce pain points for you?

I used to have a tiny tray utility called powermenu for this, which would add an item to every window's application menu (or whatever the right-click on the titlebar menu is called). Really nifty, even let me set transparency.

Now Microsoft is just trolling people.
Let's try the latest Insider pre-release build (15007). After a quick hard drive swap so I can do a clean install and not contaminate anything, I start installing and get to the part where Microsoft tries to force you to sign in with a Microsoft account. I try to skip that part, as always, but get stuck in a loop where it won't let me advance any farther.
OK, fuck you Microsoft, I'll sign in with my Microsoft account. After a couple of failed attempts I realize i have no idea what my password is. So I click on forgot password and Windows says it will e-mail me a code I can enter.
So now I can't proceed any further until i enter the code, but I can't get the code because I HAVEN'T FINISHED INSTALLING WINDOWS YET.

I honestly can't tell the difference in many games. Especially since my couch is 3m from my TV.

KDE does the same.

Because you have no access to any other computer, phone or tablet?
What did you expect? For it to just show you the password on the setup screen?

Step the frist: Install AutoHotKey
Step the second: open the start up folder: +R
shell:startup
EnterStep the Thrid: create
AlwaysAnTop.ahk
in this folder as an empty text document.Step the fuorth: Add the following line to the document:
^SPACE:: Winset, Alwaysontop, , A
Step the fifth: Reboot, or double click the .ahk file to launch the script
Step the sixth: Control+Space now toggles always-on-top for the active window.
Step the seventh: ???
Step the Eighth: PROFIT
-
Step Ninth: Forget selecting multiple files in explorer using your keyboard (if that was ever something you did).
-
@Zecc HowToGeek recommends this: http://www.savardsoftware.com/turbotop/

it isn't something i often do. but that still works with the hot key.... it just might leave you with an always on top explorer window if you select an odd number of items.
still that's easily fixed.

meh. it's better than having to deal with XCode.
-
Or pick another shortcut for AutoHotKey I guess?
I used to use a little proggy called Pitaschio that allowed a bunch of interesting tweaks to Windows, but it seems to have disappeared from the face of the internet.
Here's an article on it:
http://www.intowindows.com/pitaschio-powerful-tweaking-tool-for-windows-7-power-users/I probably have it stashed somewhere, but I haven't really felt the need for it in a while.

so i have to boot up my computer, and then launch another machine from inside my machine just so i can set always on top "easily"
.... I'll stick with the autohotkey solution.... thanks though.
-
@accalia said in WTF is happening with Windows 10? And nothing else:
just so i can set always on top "easily"
Well, that's not the only advantage
But don't worry,
so maybe they will port Visual Studio to it, someday.
-
@TimeBandit They've already got VS Code running on it, but then that's built on Node, so it kinda came for free.
-
@RaceProUK said in WTF is happening with Windows 10? And nothing else:
VS Code
In an attempt to be as clear as possible, MS made a totally different coding product, and called it "Visual Studio Code"
that's built on Node
< insert every DO-NOT-WANT memes you ever saw >
