The engineers were aware they are building a very low underpass
The article also said that originally it was only planned for bikes and pedestrians.

driving under the speed limit makes you look suspicious.
It's a limit, so following the law makes you look suspicious
Most people know you won't get pulled over for up to 15 miles over (slighly lower on local roads) so if you are under the limit, you probably got a dead body in the trunk and are begging not to be pulled over. Which makes you look suspisious.
In fact, one time I was on the highway, trying to take my time and got pulled over for probably doing like 45 in a 65. Cop said I was going too slow. If there was a minimum I believe it would've been 40.

@dangeRuss said in Driving Anti-Patterns - Necro Edition:

That's still not a valid reason to pull you over
For a traffic stop to be legal, police need an objective reason to believe someone has broken the law.
-
@TimeBandit said in Driving Anti-Patterns - Necro Edition:
articulable suspicion
So it doesn't count if the cop is drunk and slurring his words?

Based on his years of experience and history of arrests people that drive overly slow are often under influence, couple that with "this other sign" and 'that other sign" of intoxication and there was reasonable suspicion that he was under the influence of a narcotic.

You follow someone long enough you will find an excuse. I had already taken care of the low hanging fruit of having a gps mount on the windshield or having a license plate cover. I think the cop was more nervous than me when he pulled me over.

@loopback0 It's like that old joke.
A guy is driving on the highway 20 listening to the radio. Suddenly, the music stop with a special annoucement.
Please be advised that there's a car going the wrong direction on highway 20.
The guy, swerving heavily: it's not only one car, it's a bunch of them

@Carnage Except it's not an end of speed limit, it's a revert to default speed limit. Unless it is on Autobahn, but that image definitely isn't.

Or Isle of Man.

@Carnage Only a few roads on the IoM support going properly fast. The rest are mostly too full of curves, bumps, or have a generally poor surface so you just don't want to go fast (unless you're suicidal). Almost all of the fast roads are used in tracks, except for a stretch of the road from St John's to Castletown; that's splendid on a nice day, looking down across the sweep of the land toward the glittering sea beyond.

Yeah, in Wickwar to be more exact. But that sign means "End of speed limit". We used to have it in Sweden too, back when we had roads without speed limits. In England (and most of the world, I gues) they just have general speed limits as well.

That's silly! Those roads are the best for going fast.

@Carnage I wasn't thinking about the roads used for the TT or the Southern 100, except that the southern end of the road I was talking about is part of the Southern 100 circuit. The best bit is further up though, where you've come over the shoulder of South Barrule and start the long incline down to the coast; from there down to Silverdale is very fine driving on a day with a reasonable amount of sun.
The parts of the island north of the TT circuit are nice driving too, but not fast. The road surface isn't suitable for fast. (Bride Tea Rooms are nice, and then you can make a run up to the Point of Ayre, which is brilliant when there's a storm, provided you don't get blown away entirely.)

Yeah, I've faffed around in the Isle a bit. And even the circuit will have a few idiots crash to their deaths in the mountains every year when they try to imitate their heroes.
