I am pretty sure it was a paper printout glued to the display. Note how the cut out part of the image is shown in the cutting drill piece.
… if the whole thing wasn't in fact a cardboard prop. The layers inside the cut look a bit suspect.

If you're thinking that it in fact wasn't an old Dell laptop, check the photo from the side:
I had one of those at a certain point and it does look real.

It turns out the not only "Wuhan Pneumonia", malicious memes have began to spread in China.
You know, boiling water is effective in killing virus.
Ya, of course. You know our neighbor Old Wong who keep coughing last week? Last night he tried to dip himself in boiling water. Noone ever heard he cough since then...Every single sentence is true, but the concept this lines conveying is plain wrong. Take a bath in boiling water can kill you, not cure you.

well..... if the design of the motherboard was such that a hole cut in that exact spot would not power off the device and would not prevent the display from communicating the the diecrete GPU.... AND the cut severed the connection between the CPU and the GPU before it trashed the CPU.... AND the saw didn't shatter the LCD.... AND also didn't shatter the backlight.... AND didn't set the device on fire.... AND .....
okay that's a LOT of unlikely ANDs there.... so yeah it's probably some sort of trickery.... like at least six nines of probable.
But it's not impossible that it's real..... there's approximately One in Nine Quintillion Two Hundred and Twenty Three Quadrillion Three Hundred and Seventy Two Trillion Thirty Six Billion Eight Hundred and Fifty Four Million Seven Hundred and Seventy Five Thousand Eight Hundred and Seven chance that it isn't faked......
(edit (faked): Seriously Chrome? Quintillion isn't in your dictionary?!)

Mind the piece of the “display” that was cut out, completely from everything, still showing the image, perfectly visible though it is supposed to need backlight, and therefore energy, fot that.

well LCDs have a certain amount of memory so the image might not have faded and it's outside so it could be frontlit instead of backlit for that shot....
sure they would have had to move inhumanly fast to get the shot but it's not impossible........ very very very 1:(2^63)-1 improbable..... so improbable in fact that if it isn't faked i'd look for a giant, sneaker shaped brilliant white spaceship in the background of the images. flying through the air in exactly the way a brick doesn't.

I did some brillant experimentation with an old LCD monitor once, hoping to make an ambient light display for artwork or something. Turns out that the LCD panel is extremely opaque even when it's set to white, and you simply can't see anything on the screen without a super-bright light behind it. I'm making this number up, but less than 25% of the backlight's illumination actually makes it through the LCD panel.
It would have been really cool had it worked, but I just ended up with a panel that always looked black no matter what image it showed.

A few days ago I saw a streamer playing GTA Online. He got a flying DeLorean but didn't know how to make it go flying (88MPH didn't work) so he asked the chat for help.
They told him to press F.
The "exit the car" key. He hit it when going at full speed.

it depends on the exact way the LCD is made, and how its backlit.
Transmissive versus transflexive LCD layers with either edge diffusion or true backlight what backlight technology, etc etc.
yeah your particular LCD may not have worked, but that doesn't necessarily mean that none of them would.
:-D

IIRC I press..... right on the Dpad i think?

i never remember....... but i can usually find it in a few tries.

Indeed. I've got a manual from a Make magazine here which shows how to do a simple "Show news and weather forecast in the bathroom mirror" by plonking an LCD between the reflective and the glass layer.

GTA2
My very first game when I was around 13 I guess right after I got my first PC.
I remember I was playing a mission where you are supposed to pick people up with a bus and bring them over to the meat factory.
My grandma happened to come into the room and was curious to know what I was doing in the game.I'm not prone to thinking before talking in general, but here I was busy (I think it was a timed mission) so I just blurted out "I have to pick up passengers with my bus and bring them to the meat factory so they can be made into canned food."
Thankfully I was known for making dumb jokes so instead of taking the Devil's game away from me grandma said "Ha-ha, that's funny, but seriously where are you driving?" and I said something like "I just have to drive the route and pick the passengers at bus stops."
In the end I failed the mission because I was afraid to drive to the factory with grandma behind my back but at least she didn't find out what depraved games I'm playing.

Had one of my favorite TV reporters (cute but dumb) open her broadcast one night reporting "a shooting at the corner of Forty-oneth Street and McDowell".
The tough one to pronounce is when the ordinal screwup is the other direction. How do you say "12nd"?
-
@da-Doctah "Twelfnd" sounds strange.
This reminds of something I saw the other day on TV, in the news ticker at the bottom of the screen during the news: a number was shown as "2 mil 153" (ie "2 thousand 153") instead of just "2153" or "2 153".

Makes about as much sense as setting up a few¹ racks of servers, calling them a "cloud", and then naming the whole thing after the color of the cloudless sky.
Zen, man, Zen.¹ OK, quite a few.
