No, the sites that implement it are. Pay attention!
-
@ben_lubar If you go past some pre-set limit of pageviews on pages that have signed up for it (I think it's 10 or 15, something like that), the next pageview comes up with a big full-page splash screen saying "If you want to continue viewing this site, either turn off your adblocker or purchase an ad-free pass" that has no close option.

Google'd that for you.

Did the "Get help" button help you any?
It begs the question of why they would put a permanently disabled option on the front-end anyways. To appease someone that, yes, there's some arcane way to turn the option off?

Move to Canada.

Wouldn't that just change the text to read "Prime minister alerts"?

@tsaukpaetra And they'd probably use it to send out, like, Brown Betty recipes.

I finished my mini C# app, all I have to do now is package it. However, for some reason, there is no installer template included in my VS 2017 installation. And I can't seem to find it anywhere in the installer.
What gives?

No, it was on a Discord server, I don't think he actually made a thread... Searching....
Edit: No, it wasn't here. Sorry.
Edit edit: And I can't link to Discord chat history (because why would you want to go to the past?), so no go on that either.
-
@cartman82 I know it was in there last time I looked, but I can't find it either... I guess you could look into WIX or something? Or MSIX?

What gives?Hmm... It seems they've moved the templates into an extension. No idea why, if they're gonna have app templates, installer templates should go along with them.
-
@cartman82 Yeah I grabbed that installer, however it sucks on toast. The default font is fucking awful and I haven't been able to find any way to change it.
If you figure out how to change the font, for the love of God, PLEASE TELL ME. And whoever shipped that default font really should be shot. Out of a cannon. Into the sun. It redefines "unreadable".

Probably a case of, "Web apps and Store apps don't need installers, and people are always using other people's installers, so we'll just make it optional"

Oh right, they are now trying to push win32 apps through Store as well. I guess they think if they hide the templates, people will just package their apps into UWP and call it a day?

That wouldn't terribly surprise me, but at the same time, they've just updated a bunch of tooling for WPF and WinForms, and open-sourced MSIX, which appears to be cross-platform.

Well, the design looks like something from the Vista era, but font is about the same as in the rest of Windows. What am I missing?
EDIT: Actually, now that I look at it, it does look a bit strange in real life. It's as if they turned anti-aliasing waaay down for this one screen. Strange.

anti-aliasing
More like, the manifest claimed it was DPI aware and then the app rendered it like it was '96.

It looks like it's not just down, but entirely off (well, at least for the smaller text). Windows fonts used to look like that, and it was always ass.

Throughout all of this, I'm actually super curious: What font is it actually using?

RITE?!!?!?
It's not just me.
Apparently there's another tool that can "tear apart" the .msi archive which you can use apparently to change the font size but I haven't had time to work on that. I just got it functional and moved on.

Unreadable Gorilla Ass Sans
-
STATUS:
Aaand project done. Other than the font, the installer project is actually pretty nice and easy to use.
Now to figure out what to do with the app, other than use it personally. Probably just open source it and move on...

Status: I got my team to write automated tests against our web API a while back. Or rather, I convinced them to leave some tests in source control I wrote. One other person wrote a couple. One person from <outsource> has written several. We now have 26 tests of this kind. 9 of them apparently fail, the first time I've been working on something related to them in over a month. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!

Status: 47 percent done with the fixing-up of the code (at least, on the controller side). Then I can tackle all the views that are now broken... And then the actual game code that relies on the table I moved.... Think I can get it done in three hours?
We'll see!

@mott555 Sounds like you've got a healthy liver. You'd probably get a better kick out of tablets designed to dissolve under your tongue, since that's literally what's happening in this instance.

Inhalant form? Hmm, I might try that...

My half-hour presentation to do on Thursday is currently at 22-23 minutes, which seems all right when I want to accommodate lively Q&A. Might add a couple minutes. Am I going to wait until the last minute though to finish up the conclusion and recommendations section of the accompanying report and sort out the bibliography and citations? I don't want to, but all signs point to yes... :/

Did you add an NPC based off SpectateSwamp to your game?
-
Status: I want to make a game with the following features:
- Game is procedurally generated, but generation happens during gameplay. For example, the intro cutscene and pre-built tutorial hide the generation (and entropy gathering) for the first region.
- Game is voice acted by TTS.
- The player can set their name pronunciation separately from its spelling, so Raymond Luxury Yacht can play the game without having to mess up his name.
- Some sort of time travel aspect where time paradoxes are resolved by having time travel move to an alternate universe.
- Some kind of decentralized multiplayer; either joining friends on their adventures or Souls-style invasions or both.
- Major progression is metroid-style, where new abilities are unlocked and can be used on old areas of the game to unlock additional content.
Unfortunately, I have zero ideas for the actual plot or setting of the game. Or even something as simple as how the gameplay would work. Or the genre.

No. I stepped off the path to search for a bird, and that happened to quickly turn into swamp (like, one inch it's normal dirt, the next it's goopy swamp. The surface looked fine, but in the darkness it was difficult to tell...

Turns out he's on the staff of a few giant server networks. What are the fucking odds? And apparently their dev teams severely need talent and pay $72k a year for entry level + remote without professional experience. And he would be willing to recommend me as an employee.

Mine don't seem to have instructions, other than to take them orally before bed.
I woke up early today, and not groggy in the slightest. Whoa.
