Something something Trump.
Something something Kennedy, actually, but I enjoy blaming everything on the current administration as much as the next guy. Trump Caused Local Cooling!

Am I missing something? How does that relate to closing offices due to bad weather?

Carry on, then.
Trump Caused Local Cooling!
Well, it's a change from blaming him for global warming.

Those boards coordinate decisions like "it's too cold to work" and share the information to everyone involved.

The EMP this thing produces is incredible, it was managing to induce a spike of over 6V at one end a trace bonded to ground through a 0.25 Ohm resistor.
What the hell is thing?!I'm currently calling it lots of short words, well screaming them mostly.
It's an ignition system for jet engines. Basically, it generates 3kV across a huge cap bank, then every 500ms a booster stage fires that superimposes 8kV on top of that to ionise the output gap and allow that 3kV storage bank to discharge through the plasma. The dI/dt is truly fearsome.
My contribution to the state-of-the-art is that I've worked out a way to use cheap medium-voltage FETs in a stack for the switch that drives current through the booster. So huge life compared to spark-gaps and, relatively, cheap cost. The gate drive and intrinsic over-voltage handling is my special sauce, I may actually patent it.
That's if the sodding thing ever works.

@Cursorkeys: ...wow. I'd ask for photos, but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be allowed to take them, much less post them here.

Status: Came to work, notice the nightly build is stalled.
Starts at 1am, should take around 15 minutes. Why isn't it done??Jenkins console output shows:

What's taking the damn linker so long it doesn't finish?
Actually, process explorer shows that jom.exe is still running at 12% CPU, but the linker is finished.
Bonus WTF: Firefox crashed when I tried to save the GIF.

Status: Corporate changed the SSO again, meaning nobody could access the planning tool for a few hours this morning. I got in before they changed SSO, but after that everyone was fucked until now after lunch when it seems to have resolved itself.
The error message was "Wrong username or password" while the real issue was overloaded server according to the email that went out.

I'm able to post some details, I've put some stuff in The Lounge. Not sure if you'll get a notification for that or not.

Spent about 4 hours not fixing my code. Mind you, not fixing MY code but battling with some top notch half assed products from MS / Azure. My God I was mindblown by how half assed shit was all over the fucking place. My head hurts like a bitch. Fuck Microsoft fucking cunts.
Oh also in the GitHub issues section, when the exact problem is reported multiple times, it gets different answers but they all get closed as duplicate. This is not funny anymore and those answers don't even fix the issue at hand. What the fuck?

On the way to take Lil' Dude to daycare this morning I keep hearing a thumping noise every time I hit a bump in the road, and a rumbling noise when I go around a corner. I wondered what might have broken. This bitter cold weather is hard on steel, especially suspension components. Things get brittle.
Then I remember running over a bucket that fell of a truck on the interstate the other day.
My mind keeps going over possibilities, wondering might be broken and thinking to myself that it is too fucking cold for me to fix it myself.
I get to his daycare and you have to slow down pretty quickly to turn in because the A&D lanes are all full of snow from inadequate plowing by the city and -smash- my coffee cup goes flying over the windshield and smashes on the road in front of me.
Good news is my vehicle is not broken. Bad news is that was my morning coffee that I put on the roof to buckle Lil' Dude in to his car seat.
Status: It feels like a Monday.

@Polygeekery How did it stay on the roof for so long??
I'd expect it to fall over at the first turn.

So I got banned from /r/whoadude for... no apparent reason?
It's a "cool stuff" subreddit, even though they are very insistent in that it's supposed to be for "psychedelic content, NOT just cool stuff", but don't seem to enforce this rule at all. I made a very slightly snarky comment about how that rule doesn't seem to do much, and a couple days later got banned with no explanation. That was my only comment there in forever, so I don't know what else it could be.
I could message the mods and ask, but

Status: the river that I cross* on my way home from work was frozen over today.
I'll admit, it's partly dammed so it's very slow flowing especially at certain points in the tide, or else it wouldn't have, but still, a frozen river, guys. Never seen that before.
*via a bridge, obviously; the North East may be practically a third world country compared to London but we're not savages

@CarrieVS said in The Official Status Thread:

You've never been to Canada
-
@TimeBandit I have not. I have never been anywhere colder than the UK.
I know everyone across the pond is burning their grannies for warmth right now but... a frozen river in England, guys.

The North East is full of savages.
Is it cold enough for people up there to start wearing coats yet?
-
@loopback0 I'm not going commit myself to saying there's nobody out in skins, but coats, and even hats, gloves, and scarves, are much in evidence.
-
@CarrieVS said in The Official Status Thread:

Well, they'd be arrested for public indecency, shirley?

@Tsaukpaetra Well they usually at least wear a loincloth.

Status: at long last, some nice cool weather. The moment February started too, like that time the other year when it suddenly became much colder on the first day of June.

Ours is the reverse. Today was chilly. Tomorrow: almost 80 degrees (Fahrenheit, of course). About a 12 degree swing. I'm glad that today was the cold one.
Status spent the entire morning outside in the (Florida) cold watching kids play soccer. Glad that unlike last year it wasn't a billion and a half degrees.

Status: Got some overnight snow (from showers). Looks like it's just enough to be really annoying to drive on. Should be able to get to the station just fine, but might need to do it by walking.

Status: so a week ago stepbrother decided to cook ramen in the microwave. With no water. Didn't notice until the four minutes had passed and smoke was coming from the microwave (wasn't there to witness it, but fuck!).
Fucking microwave still smells of the burn...
-
@Tsaukpaetra My sister has done almost the exact same thing. The microwave had to air out for a few days afterwards.
I liked that container…

My assessment was spot on the money. Not drivable (because of the subtly weird camber of the streets near home) but easily walkable.

The surest way to get banned from a subreddit is to criticize the moderation staff or their policies.
