@pie_flavor protip: you don't have to do well at something to have fun with it

@Jaloopa I am fully aware of that fact, as I suck at nearly all video games but play them anyway.

My plan is to get hammered and play Xcom2 ironman mode. Expect a post on Tuesday about how I wasted a weekend.

He would be so lucky. Mine usually just hangs there doing nothing. Restarting on a regular basis would be a step in the right direction.
STATUS I hate writing scripts... especially groovy scripts.

I almost did every Friday off but instead have 1 full week, then a 3 day week (of which 1 day is the pre-Christmas-party travel and meeting day and 1 day is the post-Christmas-party be hungover and travel home day) then a 4 day week then many days off until next year.

Status: Am currently sending two pieces of mail:
- One to our local group of the AfD party. Those fuckers have recently launched a "My teacher is doing propaganda against the AfD!" website. Where anyone can anonymously denunciate his or her teacher. Over here, we don't like this kind of shitshow-pillories and thus they have been flooded with bogus claims. Don't know what they were expecting. My mail is a legal one, however, requesting them to send me a copy of any data they have on me and then delete said data, according to the rules of the GDPR.
My colleagues are doing that as well. This will likely flood them with such requests which poses a slight problem for them because they only have a month time to reply. Not my problem, though. - A second one goes to one of my local advertisers who has once again delivered a "newspaper" (actually just a conglomeration of adverts) to my mailbox. Even though I phoned them and told them to stop. And I also have a sticker on my mailbox which specifically states that I don't want ads or free newspapers. Why am I caring about this? Because I once had been away for four days and found my mailbox stuffed with paper ads upon return. So stuffed that an important letter did not fit anymore. So this letter is legally airtight (written by a lawyer) and tells them to stop or we'll bring the big stick, said stick being a fine of up to 300,000€. Not that it'll be that much but maybe the big number will finally scare them off. If they then don't stop it's a cease-and-desist next with an automatic fine for every time they fail. And if they really piss me off I might just rope my neighbours into this - several of them have a sticker like mine on their boxes and also got this paper.

Not sure but I'm sure I've read books where I've seen this happening to the author.

On the contrary, I actually seemed to get better while playing drums in Rock Band when I drank, because my brain would stop trying to sync my leg (for the kick drum) to one of my arms.

I get this. It's why I've only ever written one or two chapters for the few fanfictions I started and then abandoned them, because I can't get things to come out right or because now I have no idea what to do next.

I get a miniature writer's block after every half sentence I type. Writing anything takes ages.
Meanwhile my friend can smash out thousands of words in afternoon. I've no idea how he does it.

treatedtaught me how to use words like paint vs like chunks of meaning. Eventually I was writing A+ criticism blind drunk with basically no supporting points included.

Well that's not even how it works. As far as I know it's non-consensual on either part.

Write shit with little value. You can hammer out huge numbers of words that way because they're not really saying anything in the first place.

For me it comes in waves. I'll get inspiration and write 20+ pages about clothing styles for my game setting. And then I'll go weeks without writing anything.

The older ones have ticket counters right where you enter the station.
CalTrain closed all those. I think SF and San Jose still have one. But all other stations are self-serve. Either you buy a ticket at the machine, or you tag on (and off later) with the card reader on the platform. Or you have a GoPass. The conductors no longer sell tickets (they did, once upon a time)

So uh, this sounds like it might have been on the Red Green Show originally and so now I am going to watch all of that show. If it is originally from that show, you shall suffer the terrible consequences.

Status: Have been asked by my dean to somehow clean the ceiling in our chemistry lab - it sports a (not really big) soot ring due to an experiment I did which resulted in a rather large fireball.
And as we don't own the building, the actual owners are now whining all about it.
I'm also not quite sure what they're expecting of a chemistry lab. In fact, the one I'm currently in is rather pristine compared to the others I experienced... weird and colourful blotches kind of go with the territory.

Same, I'm pretty bursty. I might write 10,000 words in a day or two, followed by two months of nothing.

What do you mean? Whenever chemists are depicted, they are always in bright white labs. (They do sometimes mix colorful liquids, but they're so careful they never spill a single drop, since their blouses are always perfectly clean).

You should use more chemistry to solve this problem! Maybe even permanently if you apply enough of it!

Status: Was baffled why a function wasn't getting the correct values passed in.

It hasn't fucked itself up all that recently.
Well, unless adding another domain controller fucked it up. Who knows? It was complaining about failed replication for >60 days (or whatever) making it so I had to waste the other domain controllers and start over.
Edit: And now taking a look at things, somehow that meant all the policies were source-of-truth'd to the server that was previously broken. Somehow.
This server is the one that's being hosted on AWS and is butt slow, being there only for backup.
Ugh...

IntelliJ does a thing where it shows the parameter name after the argument, so you can't be confused by it.

Visual Studio does too. But, wouldn't (and didn't) help, because the parameters are named MetaInt1 and MetaInt2.

@Tsaukpaetra an image accompanies that post. It depicts the back of a calculator with the battery cover removed. Inside, from left to right, are three yellow batteries and a Crayola® crayon. Underneath the photo are the words "Well there's your problem." in an all caps serif font.

Research analytical chemists do tend to have labs that clean, because everything has to be as clean as possible so it doesn't spoil the results; stray solvent can cause all sorts of trouble since it usually gets everywhere when spilled. Or the compounds they're using are either dangerous enough that great care is justified, or so hellishly expensive that spilling any of it causes budget problems (radio-isotope labelled precursor organic compounds are crazy that way).
Stuff in schools? That's (mostly) benign and cheap by comparison.
