Not if Preston Garvey has anything to do with it...

Just a short question, maybe someone has run across this. I ordered a thing and the supplier has told me that it has been shipped. I also got a tracking number. That was early Tuesday and since then it still looks like this:
("Sendungsinformationen eingegangen" means: "Received shipping information".)

happens to me regularly when i get something from China.
usually the tracking number gets between zero and one scans in china, then about a month goes by and i get an out for delivery notification and when i look (even though i;ve been checking daily mind you) there are about a dozen scans over the last couple of weeks with the final one being the local distribution hub.
I have no idea how USPS manages that but...... yep.
-
@accalia Yeah, I get that. But Eindhoven is about a five hours drive from here ;)

maybe the shipper decided to ship via USPS to save money so the package has to go to 'murica before it can be dispatched to spain, and from their driven to london and dropped off with a courier who will drive it to berlin and post it via your local post?
and all that so the shipper can save three pence.....
-
@rhywden I get this sometimes. "Received shipping information" means that whomever is shipping it created a label with a tracking number using some piece of software that also inserted that shipment into the shipper's database somewhere, but said shipment either hasn't been picked up and transferred to one of their carrier facilities to be scanned, or someone missed scanning it once it arrived there due to oversight/laziness/whatever.
It could just mean that they only schedule a pickup once a week or something, once they know they'll have enough outbound packages to make the trip for the carrier worth it.

Scan history is stored on USB drive duct-taped to the package to avoid the Great Firewall?

In other news, the package I'm working on only took 6 pages worth of ink to summarize what it's doing so I can figure out how to rewrite it.

Just let it rest. It'll wander off on its own soon enough.

@magus People are now annoyed that I won't stop saying that if you break something, you need to figure out the nature of that breakage and find out how hard it is to fix, and either fix it or create a work item.
Apparently breaking things for everyone and moving on is totally fine, if it didn't happen in production.
-
Edit: When I reset my password, they sent it to me in plaintext. When I changed it, I half expected it to send me my changed password too.

I have no problem writing a P1 bug about that. Especially since we dogfood - meaning employees get to run the nightly builds.

That reminds me - I better read the resume of the person I have to interview (on site) this afternoon...

Relax. It's just a phone interview.
Worst-case, you just hangup the phone

@timebandit Thanks. :)

I couldn't do that (even ignoring the 30-minute drive to work). I take about 15 minutes to be ready to get in the shower (waking up, emptying bowels) and about another 15 minutes showering and dressing.

Status So my phone is starting to randomly drain battery real fast. 80% to 20% in 1.5 hours, with the screen off, in my pocket, without significant load. Settings app says "Google Play Services" is the culprit. Bah.

That's because Canadians are used as Soylent. Turns out you need a certain minimum level of politeness in the source material or it tastes too bad for human consumption.

Yeah, I think it was because it was copying to a compressed folder? Who knows.
Apparently MSSQL databases can be full of air though, the whole folder ended up being half as large as the data itself (2.4 Gb on disk). Wonder if there's any kind of maintenance function that can be run to compact them down...

I'm eating Huel as an attempted cure for advanced laziness in making lunches for work. It's pretty good. Doubt you can get it in Canada either though...

The thing to remember with phone interviews, and interviews in general, is that you're as much seeing if you want to work for them as convincing them they want to hire you. Think of the questions in terms of what they tell you about the company, follow up with your own questions that show you actually care about what sort of place it is to work, and make sure you have a good roster of questions for the end so you've got at least one that didn't come up in the process.
If you decide at some point that you don't want to work for them, even better. What you have then is a no-pressure situation where you're just getting more interview experience

On the topic of Huel/Soylent -- now that the CFIA banned Soylent here, I'm looking at Hol Food (a Toronto-based competitor) again, but only if they offer another flavour besides chocolate.

If you liked the older series..... it's probably better if you consider Enterprise alternate universe fanfiction.....
Enterprise isn't bad, i actually enjoyed it a fair bit, it's just extremely difficult to reconcile with the previous canon....
so if you pretend it's not actual canon it makes it more enjoyable.
-
Absolutely love the older series. Enterprise makes me eye-roll when they stray from canon but I'm not pedantic enough to stop watching because of it.
Does Scott Bakula ever do a Quantum Leap "oh boy..."? That would be hilarious. I hear Enterprise really gets into its groove in season 3, so I'm looking forward to that. I'm mostly done season 2 now.
