Provided they don't find a way to make changes permanent and lock you out (I remember that we did something like that to the admin at college because he'd failed to secure his NetWare servers correctly, so we constructed our own shadow IT system that had the programs we actually wanted) that'll be fine.

Kids aren't generally smart enough to be discreet about such things; if that happens, you should eventually find out about it. Then you should hire the kid to help secure the systems against the other little shitheads; that's what happened to me. :D

Where's the fun in being discreet? Half the point of such things is to be able to show-off about it (while going through the motions of hiding what you've done).
Edit: and that usually means playing to the adults in the gallery, as your peer group probably lacks the technical insight to fully appreciate the nuances of what's been achieved. :)

Blergh.

@carrievs Always fun when that happens! Luckily, it now is glove season so I don't risk getting shocked too much. Also, speaking of static electricity, the most efficient room I visit to build up a lot of it is also a room where a lot of work is done on disassembling/assembling computers and doing work on other electronics and ICs.

Exactly. Though when I was a kid it was more playing to the peer group as they didn't actually care to have the technical insight and I didn't want them to have it, as a magician doesn't reveal his secrets. :P

If that actually happens (which will probably coincide with a massive temperature drop in hell) I'll follow @heterodox 's example.

Finished the main story line in Skyrim last night. Wondering if there is anything else to do. I've finished all the side quests (that I know of) that I'm interested in doing. (There is no "alignment" in Skyrim, but I'm basically lawful good, and that's how I play my character; I'm not interested in any Thieves' Guild or assassin quests. I don't particularly like either the Empire or the Nords, so I don't want to take sides in the civil war.) If that's it, it just feels really anticlimactic.

The town I live is "solving" that problem. We're in the process of getting new trash containers - smaller waste area so they can partition of a portion (like 1/3) for food waste (for recycling).

Seems to be going around. My 10a meeting was cancelled. Found out when I got here at 8:20a. (No, I don't read company email on my time!)

The cancellation notice for mine went out yesterday, so I knew I didn't need to rush this morning. (Of course, it wouldn't be rushing in the first place if I didn't spend 2 hours every morning here.)

LOL. 8:20 is my normal arrival time. And thank $deity I took my usual train. The one behind it (that skips my station) hit (killed) a trespasser. The late train I would take is delayed by 1hr (so far).

I have a company car and a fuel card. The card issuer has a web portal where I can see my refueling history, look up the cheapest place to refuel, and I can upload receipts.
On the homepage of their portal, a dashboard shows some fuel efficiency statistics. It currently shows this:
According to OnStar my car's fuel usage is:
which is about 14,1 km/liter.I just got back from holiday, during which I had to resort to my credit card a couple of times as my fuel card wasn't accepted at the gas pump. I uploaded the receipts to the portal but I guess those don't count towards the average fuel consumption calculation 😅

@tsaukpaetra in Go,

IIRC the Microsoft bytecode language doesn't have any way to perform arithmetic on bytes, so converting to an int and back would have to happen anyway. I wonder, does just adding 1 to it convert it to an int implicitly?

No. Hence my annoyance.
Edit: yes it implicitly converts it to an int. No it doesn't convert it back to a byte afterwards.

@hardwaregeek So you skipped like over half the content, and you're saying there's not enough content? Did you do all the skill level 100 quests? Because there's one of those for each skill. Do you have all the daedric artifacts, or at least enough to trigger the cheevo? Did you build a house?
(That said, skipping thieve's guild is a good choice, terrible fucking writing.)
My recommendation is to play Elder Scrolls Online next. Treat it as a single player game. Its writing is far better than Skyrim's and you can mostly ignore the MMO stuff if you're not interested in it. Start with the Aldmeri Dominion. Sure they're the bad guys in Skyrim, but their story in ESO is amazingly good.

I'm not saying there's not enough content. I'm pretty much satisfied with the game, just the ending (assuming that is the ending) seemed kinda meh — killing Alduin, which wasn't much of a fight; talking to some dragons, who all flew away; and then standing alone on a snowy mountaintop with no apparent objective.
@blakeyrat said in The Official Status Thread:

Hm, no, I didn't know there were special quests for that. That's the sort of thing I was asking, is there more? Ok, yes, there is. Thanks.

It's an Elder Scrolls game. What kind of objective did you expect?
The best thing about Elder Scrolls games is that the games don't end when they end. The world lasts forever and you can revisit any time you want.

I have an embarrassing number of hours on Skyrim, and just a few weeks ago I found some content I'd never found before. (Hint: it pays to keep all the dragon priest masks you come across.) That plus modding makes it The Endless Game, as far as I'm concerned.
Also shout at the sun-orb in blackreach. There's a couple hints in documents to do that, but that's one I didn't even discover on my own, I have to admit I read about it in an article.
