Status: Thinking about buying this 3d printer:
It's gotten good reviews, is relatively cheap and I can assemble it myself (which also means that I can fix it on my own). The support has also been reported to be fast and uncomplicated in delivering spare parts in case something breaks down.
Huh. That is cheap. Keep us posted on how it works out, I need some 3d printing capabilities at some point.
Will do so. I'll order it next week, assemble it and then we'll see how good it actually works.

Status: Bought a fridge. Probably paid way, way more than I needed to for a fridge, but I was given some help and I figured if I got a fancier one it had less chance of breaking sooner.
Now I just need to wait until next Thursday for it to be delivered...

STATUS: Just the one TPS report left to do, and the planning tool doesn't list the group (of people) involved properly so I need to catch the administrator before she goes home so she can fix the error, or I can't submit a complete report. And it has to be submitted today. Awesome.
Also, heard on the topic of man-in-the-middle attacks: "If Anna sends a mesage to Bob..."
Edit: Managed to get hold of the administrator who got to swear for a bit about the incompetent planning tool before adding all the missing people to the group manually. Because the list of people in group is correct in all places but the ones needed for the status reports, where they were missing.
(Inb4 tr is Java, because that's what the planning tool is written in, based off the url containing the folder "jsp".)

The fridges that don't break are the ones used by industrial kitchens. (Restaurants, hospitals, etc.) They have zero features. The fancier it is, the more stuff there is to go wrong.
(That said, the actual guts of the thing-- the compressor and such-- is probably identical to the more reliable models.)

Well, I figured that, but I didn't have enough space for an industrial fridge in my kitchen :D
-
@e4tmyl33t Sure you do. Unless you need like a half-height model, a lot of industrial ones are the same dimensions as the home ones. (Just usually covered in stainless steel instead of black glass or painted white.)

(That said, the actual guts of the thing-- the compressor and such-- is probably identical to the more reliable models.)Am surprised there's much difference. The fridges and freezers I've seen used in biology labs tend to be standard consumer models (but with the bulb electrics ripped out to spark-proof them). That's a situation where reliability is significant and where the buyers would have had the experience and budget to buy better quality if it had been worth it.
There's a current scare in the UK about fridges with plastic backs (rather than complete metal boxes) being a fire risk, but I'd guess that American models are probably more likely to be metal clad anyway.

No worries, there is a switch beside the plug anyway

Just give them another cup of it. Once it concentrates, the mass caffeine rush will quantum-shift them into a different layer of the time stream and they won't phase back in until it wears off.

It did come up after the initial upgrade. Logged in, it said it needed another reboot to finish. That's when it began boot-cycling. Lenovo 11" Yoga. It's been an Insider machine for 2? years now. This is the first upgrade failure - figures it fails so badly it can't even repair... sigh.

@dcon is that not the point of restore points?
-
@pie_flavor said in The Official Status Thread:
@dcon is that not the point of restore points?
Thing is, it restores to the point where it's just about to install the update. Then, because you need to reboot to "finish" the restore, it does so and realizes it needs to apply the update. Queue loop.

@tsaukpaetra You're missing one of the UEFI partitions..... That looks like the old MBR layout.
Is this update UEFI only?
This is a correct UEFI layout:

Which is why I do it on that machine (and VMs). It's an older machine that I don't really care if I have to reinstall. So it's just sitting around unplugged now. I'll nuke/pave it when I get around to it... (maybe I'll just wait for the official fall update and install a clean system from that...)

Dunno, I didn't set this computer up. But whatever the case, MS clearly dropped support for upgrading in this scenario. GG.

Even the small ones will chase and bark when you walk away - but if you turn towards them, take a step or make a loud sound, they will often retreat.

Decided not to wait for the Tue release (since I'm at home idling today). Once I figured out how to get the damn thing to boot from USB, all is good. Did a clean install (and it left my existing files behind). Machine is back up and installed. (well, VS2017 is in process now)
