Status: my mom's doing college. This is the Math level they spanked her in.
Heather did tutoring for college-level math during one of her work terms.
There are people to whom this would be an insurmountable challenge.
A challenge on the level as something as confounding and mysterious as fractions.
These were students in the nursing program.
Who didn't understand why they'd need to know fractions, even when presented with the scenario "the doctor says the dosage is 20mg but there are only 40mg pills available, do the Maths on this."
:/
Oh, near the end of the course they're going to be putting reactions in the number line.
Yes, she's doing a medical-related program. Coincidence? But it's fine, she's been working in the finance sector for a while. This class at least should be a breeze.

Status: The S team is small, but their product is important to some of our biggest clients. When presented with the problem my team is facing (A feature we need exists for a small number of cases), they told us that we can submit a request to implement it to the Council of Overlords, who will prioritize it to meet their will. Our councilor may have some pull, as we are currently in the favor of the Grand Overlord, but even assuming our request goes through, what we need will require extensive testing (It should be low impact, but we can never be sure) and the team who can implement it is small and over capacity.
So, we may be able to implement the request ourselves, but the testing and other related costs will still be high - especially since S is implemented in an old version of a now-obscure language. Building the initial request will require a lot of testing to find where it is lacking.
But maybe we have a way to move forward?

Customee - the one to whom a customer gives their custom.
To the best of my knowledge it wasn't a word until I invented it just now but it's logical and unlike 99% of all words coined in the past three years it's not a portmanteau.

Just read this comment on a TV site:
I'm here to say this. I give all first episodes a viewing regardless of content or subject. Heck yes, I have some exceptions to that rule. I wouldn't be who I am if I didn't. First and foremost is subject matter. Everybody knows my rule about homosexual content. TV with that stuff in it no matter how small or great, doesn't get downloaded intentionally by me ever, ever, ever . . . . Anything with NCIS, Chicago, etc. in its name is bypassed automatically. I'm working on a filtering system that will take all that decision making out of my hands before I even see it. Wish me luck! The way things work now is like those times you barged in on your sister taking a bath. Of course you meant to do it but you quickly excuse yourself, apologize and leave. Once the door is closed, you can shut your eyes and replay what you saw. Unfortunately those images were a good thing to have in those circumstances but not so much when seeing offensive content on TV. The same thing happened with Mom too. haha I was a perverted kid growing up and couldn't help myself. I'll get back to you on what I think about this new TV series.

Status: Cow orker on another team asked me for help with a build failure: The build succeeds locally but not on the build machine. The error says the configuration is wrong, so I look at the variables in TFS. Looks like he didn't update the configuration, and messed up the platform. I tell him what the problem is, and he says it doesn't work. I look, and they haven't changed. So I go fix them.
He tells me it's still broken, so I look again. There's another solution in the same repository that doesn't have our new build configurations. I go look at it: Interesting, this is just an empty unit test in a project and solution. I tell him to delete it and check that in.
He says it doesn't work, so I look at the build logs, and the original issue is back. I look at the build, and he's messed up the platform again. After about an hour I tell him I'll fix both of them, do, and it works.
...I have no faith the original problem won't come back at this point, though.

ZipDisks have a 100MB capacity ("How to hold 70 floppy disks in the palm of your hand."), so it should fit just fine, no paring needed.

Often they'll accept "or equivalent experience."
My "relevant job experience" is nil.
Ah. That could be a problem.
The biggest local employer is religion based, and I'm not.
Does the work demand accepting their religion? Many religious places will hire people not of their religion for work that doesn't put you as representing them or their beliefs.
I know basically no-one outside family, and they're generally not going to be much help.
Despite what people say about nepotism, it can often make it a lot easier to find and get the job you want.
@Dreikin said in The Official Status Thread:

From what little I know of them, job search sites are usually combed by agency recruiters, and some of them are not above editing your CV/résumé to make it easier to match you to any job, but not necessarily one you'd really want.
If you have individual companies that you can target, try that first. You're more likely to get something you prefer if you're more involved in the process.

From the posting:
Disclaimer Statement
Liberty University's hiring practices and EEO Statement are fully in compliance with both federal and state law. Federal law creates an exception to the "religion" component of the employment discrimination laws for religious organizations (including educational institutions), and permits them to give employment preference to members of their own religion. Liberty University is in that category.Even barring that, I'd still have major personal issues (example) working for them.

Only complicated part will be decoding opus-encoded packets into 16 bit signed 16 khz mono raw wave data, stream it to an HTTP endpoint, do magic, and then the reverse (OMG I just realized I have to invoke Black Magic now!!!).
Think I can do this in a week?Okay, first round of core alterations in progress. Due to how Unreal Engine is done, the Dedicated Game server instances will now connect to the voice chat server in the same manner as a normal client, but... um... different. In theory. Cooking takes forever to test, because apparently Play In Editor (the de-facto method for quick-testing) is Differentâ„¢ when trying server-client interaction logic so I have to "Cook" the build.
It remains to be seen if I have the chat server send the opus audio to the game server (when needed, obviously I don't want to waste bandwidth listening to all the players when they're not near a bot that can listen) to be decompressed and re-coded into the correct raw wav format. I really hope that threading is somewhat easy in C++ (it probably isn't), because this promises to be a somewhat heavy and delayed operation, especially the HTTP request, if done in the server logic synchronously.
If that's not performant, I'll probably have the voice chat server do the decoding blech directly. Probably.
Filed under: Yay comma splice run ons?
Okay, alterations round done. The game server connects the the voice chat server and tells it which bots are near players (side not: bots are players too, just with negative ids).
The chat server also knows not to kick the game server when it logs in multiple times (for the multiple bots you see).
Next up is actually doing something with the audio streams.
