@Rhywden Actually, the task of converting Macs into a form that allows for fractional Macs sounds quite fun. I'd start with large firecrackers.
-
@Rhywden
As an added bonus, if you use the LDAPS settings that worked from 10.4 through 10.8 on a 10.9+ Mac, the Mac will initially work for allowing logon with AD accounts. And then at some point within the next 24 hours, it will fail, and you won't be able to log on via AD accounts at all until you revert the change and reboot. And then you can re-apply the change and it will work again for a while, rinse, repeat, curse out Apple.

fresh urine
That depends on how long they've been warm. After a while, it's stale urine…
Does urine even go stale? Stale implies some kind of unwanted degradation in flavor. For some reason I've never done any experimentation on this subject.
Ohhhhhh yes. Be glad you don't know.
You know the really nasty foul dark urine you get when you're dehydrated? It's kind of like that. But worse. Much worse.

@lucas1 booze makes your piss all watery and clear. I'm talking about the kind that comes out a dark shade of brown.

I don't need a fridge to keep my beer cold, I just put it outside for 15 minutes.
Jealous ?
I am a bit. But then I remember I have a fridge (for the beer) and a freezer (for the Jagermeister).
During the colder months, I tend to make a lot of soup.
I'm not about to put 5 gallons of boiling hot broth into my fridge. So what can I do?
Oh right the 18" of snow in the backyard! Cool it quick, seal in jars, put in a snow-packed cooler.
Plus, my cold room is below 40f now, so it's like having a 4x8' walk-in-fridge.
...
aside from that fuck winter.

I seem to have killed Visual Studio
I'm working on a web service and WCF service to add functionality to a website. While testing them, Visual Studio froze; I assumed because of some problem in the services.
I killed the processes that looked like the services I was debugging, VS was still frozen. I killed VS, but on reopening the solution it freezes again, after saying it hadn't loaded some projects that failed last time.
Time to go into the .sln and remove the offending projects methinks

Hmm, I read it as "Anaïs" (which, I think, is the intended reading), but if you're familiar with the writings of Anaïs Nin, that's , too.

Microsoft yesterday announced a plan to use Windows' popularity on desktop to give the OS a foothold in the mobile space.
See, here's the thing.
If, when smart phones first started to get popular, Microsoft had released a phone that executed x86/x64 code-- ie, you could take the same Microsoft Office you use and install it on your phone, no app, no different version, nothing-- they would have owned the entire mobile ecosystem.
Instead we got Windows Dumbfucking Mobile Useless Shit Edition, over and over and over. People learned that you don't buy a Windows phone, because it isn't "really" Windows. It looks and feels like some Chinese Windows knockoff, and it doesn't even run the software you're using on the PC. "What's the point of running Windows if I can't
see Grumpy Catrun Office?.They gave up that fight long ago to Apple (and Android) who swooped in with "Well, if you can't run Office, and thus don't want Windows, here's something shiny and fun that you can use."
Microsoft is about 15 years too late to this game.

Whoa.
-
@Lorne-Kates The problem is, when the smartphone was first getting popular, there weren't really any low-power x86/x64 chips that could match ARM for efficiency and performance. And by the time those chips did become available, ARM had already taken as-near-as-makes-no-difference 100% of the market. Also, back then, x86/x64 emulation on ARM was shit, and is only now becoming feasible.
-
@RaceProUK Also, Windows on a touchscreen has been tried many times (XP Tablet edition anybody?), and without modifications to make it touch friendly, it's shit. Desktop software would be clunky at best and unusable at worst on a phone
-
@loopback0 welcome back!

If only Microsoft had a whole team of hardware engineers who could have attacked that problem.
Or a whole team of software engineers who could work on cross-platform compilation of core products (so at least those were available)
Or a whole team of lawyers who could have found someone else who had done one of the above and bought them out.
=)

@loopback0 To be fair, in the case of Win10, it's when connecting a phone to e.g. a TV and pairing a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, making it into a sort of desktop-lite thing.
Personally, I don't see the point. But maybe it's useful to someone.

Maybe, but I'd wager (based on no actual research, natch) that even less people wanted that back when smartphones were new than want it now.
@RaceProUK said in The Official Status Thread:

Likewise.

@loopback0 MS would be better off pushing the Surface Pro and Surface Book, tbh
-
@Lorne-Kates I'm reasonably sure that's not actually liquid nitrogen.
Dry ice is -109.3°F, but in order to freeze his 90% isopropyl alcohol he'd need to get it a bit colder than that, -128°F. And it's nowhere near cold enough to liquefy nitrogen -- it boils at -321°F.
So all he really did was take some liquid alcohol and cool it down to about 10 degrees above its freezing point. Clearly, it was more than cold enough for him to snap-freeze those flowers, though.

And it would've been perfectly unusable on a small touchscreen with an on-screen keyboard. Congratulations, your phone supports millions of apps but 99.9% of them won't work worth a damn.
